Despite some of the poor reviews about the pool hall we decided to go any way because we were wanting papusas. Well the place is closed down. No sign nothing and plastic hanging over Windows. If they are under construction the owner should have updated Unilocal so we don’t waste our time driving there.

My wife and I were in town looking to get to know the area and my wife found this place that serves platano frito and re-fried beans. We just made it before closing time at 9pm and we we super happy with the selection of real Central American food available. The pupusas were great and they even had Loroco. My wife is a soup fanatic so she enjoyed Sopa de Res. If you want real Central American food, this is the place. The people who worked there were really nice.

sign say they closed at 9 pm, got there at 8:35 pm, and they were closed! They shouldn’t have their operation hours if they are not going to follow it.

Driving by I decided to try this small, local, barely noticeable restaurant on Rayford. Having never been there I was surprised to see its kind of an– order at the counter, pick a table kinda place. But, I got over it. I’m not familiar with El Salvador food and asked for a recommendation. The beautiful little lady at the counter recommended I try the pupusa so I went with her suggestion and got Cheese and Pork and another with Cheese and Bean. Wow– these are really good! The concept is similar to a quesadilla in that it’s a bread base filled with meat and cheese. But otherwise, they aren’t the same. This is a corn based dough type tortilla, thick and soft. It’s filled with your choice of ingredients and grilled to make it all melty and blended inside. It’s just so good. Plus, you get a side of the homemade salsa which tastes phenomenal when dipping the pupusa. At only $ 2 each, they are a deal and I’ll be back to try more things from the menu!

So we just had landed in Houston and we wanted to eat some Mexican food and we had been to Casa medina before(witch has good reviews 5stars) and for me I did not like it or impressed me at all we order just to leave everything in the table SAD. So this time we came here at the beginning we were like should we go in? LOL cuz you can’t see from the outsider inside the restaurant; we went in(hobby and me) and the waitress was super nice she made us feel welcome :) we order 2 pupusas they were 4⁄5 the salsa was awesome!!! hobby order Paisa plate witch was 5⁄5 rice was good tortillas were just like in el salvador. Then we order atol de elote witch was just made, let me tell you it was OMG Devine excellent!!! 10⁄5LOL we also talk to the owner Rosi she was really nice. We are totally coming back! The only thing I would say is that maybe they should upgrade the place :) that’s all!

I need to start this review by saying — I have not eaten the food at Elsys. I found the restaurant here on Unilocal and with the good reviews, my husband and I packed our two little ones in the car to go for dinner. I wasn’t expecting a nice place, usually«hole in the wall» type places are some of the hidden gems. But I wasn’t expecting it to be half a pool hall and half a restaurant. We walked in and it smelled like fresh smoke. No one was eating but there was a group of men playing pool swearing a lot. So we decided to leave. Probably not the best place to take a family. But that was our point of view. I’m bummed because I love papusas, maybe another time I will try to stop by with just my husband and at that time I will update my review with the food.

Papusas are very good! Price is right also! I have tried the chicken, pork and bean and all were tasty. There is a pickled cabbage dish that is included with the papusas that is very good also.

Tried Elsy’s out last night after seeing its reviews on Unilocal. We live in The Woodlands, but are getting tired of the limited offerings here. My husband and I both really liked it. We’ve never had Salvadorian food before, so I can’t speak to its authenticity, but I can say that the food was tasty and inexpensive. We each got plates that came with 2 pupusas of your choice, a tamale(very different from a Mexican-style tamale, but I liked it), black beans, crema, and plantains. It was an insane amount of food for $ 6.99. It also came with homemade salsa and a cabbage slaw. Their menu is pretty large, but I doubt I’ll get anything but pupusas because they’re delicious. It’s attached to a pool hall and there was live music going on over there, which some will like and others won’t, but the atmosphere was casual and welcoming. I’ll definitely be back.

Try the Elote. It’s authentic like you would get on Mexico and other Latin countries. The papusas are very good and cheap! They have an awkward pool table thing connected to the restaurant and it doesn’t work. Come here for authentic and delicious affordable food.

This place gets 5 stars for it’s great Home made Salvadorian food. Nestled behind some train tracks in Spring is a small Mom and Pop shop named Elsy’s Restaurant. Everything is made from scratch everyday using high quality ingredients. If you’ve never tried a pupusa, now’s a good time to do so! They recently have expanded and now have alcoholic drinks and a pool hall. Some of the selection includes pupusas, tamales, Mexican food, appetizers, rice, Salvadorean cream, fried plantains and it’s all delicious. Hopefully the word spreads about this place so it remains open. Also, if you are in the Greenspoint area there is another one of these.

Review solely on Pupusas: If you looking for delicious Pupusas, this is the spot. It is store #2 all the way from Greenspoint. It took me a while to find a Pupusa joint in Spring, and after a year long search, I discovered two restaurants that serve delicious Pupusas: Dinoria’s and Elsy’s. Whichever one you pick, or is nearest you, the Pupusas are great.

Nestled in the corner of the shopping strip right after the railroad tracks on Rayford is Elsy’s. This is a Salvadorian restaurant with a nice sized menu. Half of the restaurant has tables for dining and the other half has 4 pool tables and a bar-like area. I’m not sure if they serve alcohol or not. I ordered takeout for the family. 1) Fajita Burrito plate was great, a rather large burrito with salvadorian rice and black beans. 2) Beef Torta was on fresh bread and was awesome as well. 3) Quesadillas — not very big and left me wanting more. I will be back to try the Pupusas.

Amazing home-made Salvadorean food!!! If you’ve never had a Papusa, go ahead and try it, you’ll love it. The soups are incredible and huge servings, too. The Parrillada’s are fantastic and perfect for those of you who want the traditional Mexican-type fare. I wish Guy Fieri would come to this place… he’d be in Heaven. We’ve got to get the word out about this place. There aren’t enough Mom & Pop places like this that are home-made from scratch. You’ve got to come here!!!
