This is a family business and they are all very knowledgable. Ernie takes the time to explain the issue and even show you a part that they are replacing and why it’s worn out, broken etc. They (in my experience) can take a little longer than normal but that is replaced by quality service at a low cost. I am okay with this approach. They generally start (when troubleshooting) at the cheapest fix and work up from there; all the while keeping costs low for the person bringing in their vehicle. Overall I’m impressed with Ernie and team. I continue to take my cars here.

Terrible. Maybe the owner is nice but his mechanics are irresponsible. Send me off with fuel lines leaking on my engine. My husband caught it. They had wanted to duct tape the fuel lines. Whah???

Only reason I gave one star is cause I couldn’t choose less! What a bunch of shady people they got working here. They are THEE definition of why consumers don’t trust mechanics! I wasted 3 days here waiting on a broken promise. Guess a mans word means nothing here. In the end, they ruined their reputation because they associate themselves with shady Persian car salesmen! Do NOT go here, they lie and are really irresponsible. If they were straight shooters, then customers would know what to expect… SO THEY ARE NOT DESERVING of the FAKE high ratings.

Any time we have need of mechanical work on either of our cars, we take them here first. The guys at Performance Specialties are fantastic! They are all very knowledgable and don’t try to convince you to do things that are not really necessary. Even though they are always busy, it rarely takes more than a day to get the work done, and is always less expensive than we think it will be.
Ernie knows how to run a «well oiled» shop (pun intended) with honesty and integrity. As long as we’re in the San Diego area, we will always take our vehicles to him to get them fixed correctly the first time.

Ernie has been working on this rv of mine for 20 years before I bought it. Spend $ 900 to replace hoses, fix horn and smog. Now I get it back, drive it up to Escondido. Used cheap plastic part and I break down on freeway. Then my horn doesn’t work, after I spent $ 200 just to fix it. Also, my back rear window blows out (behind drivers seat). He says it happened while driving. Right! I bet they jacked up the rv on one side with jacks and that’s how it happened. Then I also have a nail in the front tire. SO now I am out another $ 300 to fix window and tires and horn doesn’t work.
Ernie has lost his touch. I called him and spoke to him. Only thing he said was «sorry». How about a partial refund.

Pretty good. Sometimes their parts seem to be overpriced however sometimes they are cheaper then everywhere else in town. Honest, the only reason why they don’t get 5 stars is because they always seem to take FOREVER to call me back.

my family has been going to this shop for several years. tucked away in the heart of spring valley, ernie and his father does business honestly. also, they charge reasonably! best service shop in san diego and i recommend this business to anyone and everyone!!!

Quality service. Will give advice on how to do repairs yourself to save you some cash and great about holding vehicle without «storage fees» until you get paid if needed. Perfect for poor folk like us :)

They are the best auto repair and smog check in ALL of San Diego! They are 100% Honest — they never recommend anything you don’t need. They are a family operated business with three generations working there. I would not take my car anywhere else!

Have used these guys for years. Reasonable. Very honest. Easy to talk to and explain everything in detail.
I have also used them for Smog Checks for the past few times. It is not the cheapest price for a smog test, but well worth the extra care and the assurance of honesty — no repairs will be suggested that are not necessary.
