Bernie’s Bagels & Deli

I was so dissatisfied with the service here that I decided to make a Unilocal account to warn everyone of the lack of quality service. Now granted this is my first time here and I’m speaking from my one and only visit here. But I thought I share.
I came in around 11AM looking to get breakfast to go. The owners are a Spanish native husband and wife. I simply ordered an egg, ham, and, cheese bagel with a tropicana OJ out of the fridge. No problem here. As the husband was cooking, I noticed a self serve coffee table. The wife was by the register so I told her to add a small coffee to my order.
She got confused. Her English was worse than I thought. She tells her husband to attend to the matter. Her husband leaves the grill station and I explain to him I just wanted a small coffee to my order. He replies «Ok, so? You can have it.» Now the way he said it, it seemed as if he was saying its free (I was in EMT uniform and it’s common for owners to offer something like that). I tried to confirm to see if thats what he meant. This was when he turned into El Diablo and all hell broke loose. He was infuriated when I asked if it’s free. I tried to calm down the situation by saying «Ok ok no problem, I’m just adding a small coffee to my order then.» For some reason this made him more furious. His lack of English made him believe I wanted HIM to make me a small coffee at the self serving table. The only solution I can think of was to smile, put my hands slightly up to surrender, and say «no no no» in a light hearted manner then take a step back and proceed to make myself some coffee. From there on after there isn’t much of a story to tell.
Now I am not giving a 1 star rating just because of the lack of customer service. When I opened up my breakfast sandwich I saw that he burned it when he left the grill unattended and was throwing a fit. There was also a thin slice of ham cheese and what appeared to be a burnt small egg. Not only was the sandwich burned, the coffee was burnt as well. For an $ 8 meal this was one of the worst things I ever spent money on. So long story short: Customer service was bad and the food quality was bad.

Best sandwiches in the area. Good bagels & egg dishes — normal deli staples.
