This was fantastic! I’ve been to really nice, expensive haunted houses and I honestly feel like The Dark Side was better than any of them. They don’t have flocks of actors in detailed makeup, but the actors working there managed to scare the crap out of my friends and I. Going into this, for some reason, I didn’t realize this was a haunted house attraction. I just thought it was supposed to be House on the Rock with spookier stuff put out. So when I got into the first dark area I was confused. I’ve never been to House on the Rock before so I REALLY wanted to see the stuff around me. No one else was around and it hadn’t clicked that it was a haunted house. So I got my phone and turned my flashlight on to look at the displays. I’m walking through and accidentally shine my light on an actor in the corner. I quickly put my light down and apologize. Apparently neither of my friends realized I was talking to another person. The actor came up and jump-scared them. They freaked out. It was hilarious! He punched our tickets and we kept going. My friends and I went along the path, debating about whether or not it’s a haunted house. I kept my light on(still no one around) and came across another actor. I, of course, immediately turned my light off, realizing it IS a haunted house, and kept it off for the rest of the night. Again, my friends didn’t see the person and got jump-scared. I lost it and laughed my ass off. First off, the House is amazing and I cannot wait until I get to go back during the day. Secondly, those actors are SO good at hiding and running about until you’re distracted, then popping up to scare you. Half way through my friends and I are fighting, pushing each other to the lead, so that the some one else can take the bullet of being jumped out at. I know it seems basic and uninteresting, but feeling completely unnerved, unsure of your eerie surroundings, and too scared to look at the pretties on the wall is truly the best kind of scared. No loud screaming. No one grabbing you. No having to walk through weird squeezy inflated tunnels. It was just amazing. I’m going to make sure to come back here every year! My ONLY complaint was that it was too short. If it were closer, less money, or longer I would have been perfect.

This is the third year that House on the Rock has done a halloween tour at night after the normal attraction has closed. Even for being fairly new in the«haunted house» game, they are doing a phenomenal job in creating something that isn’t your stereotypical warehouse scary fake scenes with boring Halloween-theme-song music. It was the most unique and eerie halloween attraction we have ever been to. The unique layout of the rooms lay an already perfect groundwork for creepiness, paired with cleverly placed actors, created a very stimulating atmosphere. The maze of the dollhouse rooms and the old-timey crackling music in particular are going to give me nightmares for weeks. I highly recommend the trip to make it to this event, and I hope that with every coming year, they are able to make it even better!
