Shade Tree Saloon & Grill

Visited the Shade Tree on a Saturday early evening. I was attracted by their roadside sign advertising axis burgers. The place is a decent road house with a good number of tables in reasonable condition. There was no table service and no apparent indication of such, so it was the normal wait-​and-​look-​around for a while until I finally approached the bar to ask. And I was told that the bartender did provide table service! She was very sweet, but it is a fairly large place and having one person cover all food service and the bar is probably too much.
That said, service wasn’t bad but it wasn’t very busy. Beers and fried okra app came out fast. Burgers were pretty quick, too, but my axis burger was confused with my wife’s burger, so it wasn’t until ¼ in when I remarked that my burger tasted pretty much like beef that the switch was discovered. The axis burger wasn’t awesome; it was a good enough burger and had a little extra flavor than the beef, but I wouldn’t pay extra for this again.
Overall it was a nice spot. If I’m there and want a beer and some food I would stop in again, but I wouldn’t make a destination of it.

Love the Shade Tree for cold beer, wine & atmosphere. Great people watching, good hamburgers & music. Love to go on Saturday or Sunday afternoons to check out all the bikers. BTW, I am not a biker but it is a fun crowd. Other food is good but mostly I go for the burgers.

Food is good. Service is terrible. We had to walk up to ask for them to take our order, which took 45 minutes to make (two burgers), to get another beer, then again to get our check. Bathrooms are very… Non-​private. Good atmosphere, but not worth the hassle. We’ve been here twice and the service has been pretty bad both times.

This place is advertised as a bar and grill, but if your looking for more than a bar, don’t go! The food was horrible! Terrible service. It should only advertise itself as a bar.

Great place with great food. Clean and friendly. Super prices too. Will be coming back for sure

One of the last good roadhouse/​honky tonk/​biker bars around. Weekend bands, a dance floor with a good selection of beer. And if you like motorcycles, this is where you’ll see them! All makes and models stop here for a cold beer and damn good food. Being a biker myself, I love the fact that I can ride my scoot straight into the open air portion of the bar! You will see different motorcycle clubs in there, but I’ve never seen them cause any trouble. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a hardcore lifer, this is the place to go!

This is a great place for cold beer and good burgers. If you’re expecting a French Burgandy to go with your fried pickles you can just pass this one by.
Bring your motorcycles and cigars!

This is the local establishment (for me) that I go to when I need a shot to my overall self-​esteem. the ogling — OH MY!!! Restrain yourselves people! It’s a FEMALE! You’ve seen them before.
But they’re friendly enough (often too much so).
And the day drinking? Well, you won’t be alone.
Food is ok too.

After finishing a Spartan Race in Burnet, TX. last May, we were making our way to San Antonio when we came upon Shadetree. Loved it!!! Good burgers, cold beer, and great outdoor seating!

I hit the Shadetree the other night and realized I don’t honky tonk near often enough! If I’m honest about it I probably had a few too many cold ones here! Too many cold ones combined with my current meds doesn’t always equal the best me so hopefully they’ll let me back! :)

Fun, fun, fun! And a great place for a big ol fashioned greasy burger!

Love this place. I’ve been here several times and the beer is always cold and the environment is always relaxing. Last week I had the fish tacos and they were pretty good for a bar. I’ve heard the burgers are great and I am sure I will try them soon. There is nothing better than a beautiful hill country day, sitting outside at the shade tree with friends. For bikers, there are several great rides around. Take a break and have a cold one. I usually go to the bar to order but have also had a waitress. I am not sure if they don’t have a waitress unless it’s busy but it really doesn’t take away from the place.

The Shadetree is one of the few remaining roadhouse/​honkeytonk/​biker/​FM bars out there. It’s about in the middle of nowhere on 281 north of San Antonio.
The ambience is what sells it — this is true Texas. There’s an outdoor stage, shuffleboard table, biker parking, fresh eggs for sale and lots of signs some which may have found their way there under shady circumstances. Almost all the seating is outdoors on the large porch area.
The food is great — the burgers are hand made with toasted buns. Also heard great things about the chicken sandwich.
A true Texas original. Stop by for a Shiner and burger, stick around for some songs and enjoy the day.

I’m not sure how many stars to give this place, because we waited 15 minutes and no one took our order. I think it’s a local hangout, but I would still acknowledge customers when they come in. We finally left.
