Over 220+ acres to be built upon! That’s the acreage Habitat for Humanity-Spokane has to develop into affordable housing. 114 units will be built eventually. pply to the Careful construction using eco-friendly, high energy efficient materials occur every step of the way. There is a wonderful core staff working every day, augmented with volunteer help from the greater Spokane community. No experience is necessary, just a desire to do something good for the community. My six sessions volunteering were mini adventures in house construction. I’ve had prior experience with a variety of hand tools, e.g. hammers, pliers, wire cutters, box cutters, etc., but have never used any major power cutters or had the opportunity to work outdoors on a scaffold. My volunteer time presented those new experiences. I also gained some hands-on time with many new tools. Meeting great people was another positive benefit. Everyone is welcomed warmly and there was no end to their patience with all volunteers. When weather was not so friendly, we had work inside to do. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there every session I worked. Whether you have a few hours for one day or time to offer for several days, sign up online and show up for a fantastic cause.
