Dry Fly Distilling

I have been trying to buy a bottle of Dry Fly Irish for the last two years. I called and e mailed as well as stop in, they kep giving me a date of the first of March. I even talked to Don several times, still when I showed up to get a bottle. Some young kid said no been out for weeks you should have called!!!
Disappointed

After reading through the reviews, I felt the need to defend this establishment a bit.
The distillery is not a «tasting room.» They would never turn someone away and always open the door for people to visit. But it’s a working distillery. When the staff are there during the day, they are working to produce all of the delicious spirits, and even though they may not always have time to stand around and chat, I’ve found that they have always been more than accommodating and very friendly.
My husband and I have been going there since they opened, and have always have a great experience. I love to support local business and for a small local business, these guys are top-​notch!

I took a small group here last Saturday. I was prepared to buy couple bottles of their product as were others but the person helping was shockingly rude. Couldn’t believe it. Left empty handed. The product is good but couldn’t get past wanting to stay with the pompous rude kid behind the counter.

Terrible experience. I had a friend come in from out of town so I took him to several local breweries. After finishing up at No-​Li we decided to peek our head in to Dry Fly. Once someone came to the door to let us in, he said he had to go get someone to help us. We were left alone for around 5 minutes near the merchandise counter until a lady, obviously very annoyed, came out of her upstairs office and walked past us and stood behind the counter. No «Hey, thanks for stopping in», «Can I answer any questions» not even a «Hello». I then started to try to make small talk with her to see if she would start talking about their products. All I would get is either nods or one word answers. I guess we were both used to brewery owners who are proud of their establishments and willingly give tours and talk about their products. If your looking for a disappointing, rude experience, then Dry Fly is the place to be.

Still a fantastic distillery even that they are the oldest in Washington State!
I had plans all day so I arrived when they opened at 10am. I don’t think they were expecting anyone at that time. Anyhow a few years ago standing in line at the liquor store in Tacoma to get a bottle of their whiskey and thankfully they have increased production and now are a little easier to come by.
But to be honest I thought their stuff was only alright and I really have not had any Dry Fly in a few years especially with all of the other local whiskey and bourbons that are coming out. But that morning when I was trying a few of my old flavors I was blown away by them. The gentlemen whose waited on us said they had smoothed their booze out a bit and refined the process. It definitely showed because again I was really impressed. I also remember their vodka having a sort of grain taste, but it was completely different than I remembered. The vodka was smooth and almost buttery. I ended up picking up their limited released 101 proof bourbon which I would put against any Washington bourbon to take home.
So if you have not tried Dry Fly in a while do yourself a favor and pick some up or better yet head to Spokane and visit them!

Yes please. Might not be much of a tasting room (glass counter in the front of a distillery where you can have samples poured into plastic shooters) but the spirits are excellent and odds are one of the four fellas who run the whole distillery are serving you and know what they are talking about. Excellent background do lectures on 100 percent wheat whiskeys and unique grain selections. Experimental varieties are creative and don’t try too hard to be something they’re not. Port whiskey aged in wine barrels has a subtle hint of huckleberry but stays true. Lavender citrus gin is forcing a revaluation of my strict whiskey-​girl stance. It’s a one room operation with a few glasses and goodies. Go for a bottle come out with two.

I took my husband here to tour the facility and try to the Whiskey but I did’t know we would have such a great time. We were showed around with such enthusiam and you can see the pride they have in there place and product. I’m not a Whiskey fan but the Gin was fabulous, we had to take a couple bottles home!

We were lucky enough to be on a tour of dry fly and no li last night. The owner don was a great host and not only gave us a look see into his world at dry fly but hes not bad at bartending too! We had a sample of cask strength wheat whiskey and we like it so much we had to get a bottle! I have seen there product in the stores but now that we know the history we wont be so quick to walk by. I wish we had grabed a sample of the vodka but im pretty sure it wont be long before a bottle finds it way home. We were so impressed that everything is localy sourced. Good for you dry fly! Keep up the great work and we will keep buying!

Although they might deserve accolades for tasty product and local sourcing, I experienced poor customer during my visit to Dry Fly’s distillery.
After I posted this review, the owner replied with concern. I am increasing the rating because of the owner’s rapid response.

These folks make great local whiskey, gin, vodka and some other concoctions! If you stop by the distillery, don’t expect some crazy macro distillery tourist experience… most likely they are going to be busy making the alcohols.
But as the sign on the door says, if they have time they will buzz you in for a looksey, some bottle purchasing, maybe a taste and maybe a tour. I got some awesome small batch wheat/​rye hybrid and an aged gin when I was there.
Check out their release calendar for the fun/​different stuff. In the mean time, pick up some of their great staples here or at most liquor buying establishments.

OK, for starters, I’m rating this 5 stars for the product they sell, not the experience I had visiting the distillery. Let’s be real here, IT’S A DISTILLERY, not a nightclub or a pub. If you want a trendy pub setting, then visit the No-​Li brewery next door. I didn’t go in to it expecting to be wowed by the décor or a trendy upscale space and you shouldn’t either. So if you can get past that and go in to it looking to sample some fantastic spirits, then you won’t be disappointing.
It was the owner/​manager/​big Kahuna that helped me and he was more than gracious. Gave me a little history on the place, introduced me to his wife (?), imparted some knowledge, and was proud to serve me sample of his product… which is top shelf.

There’s lots of drinking options and producers in ol’ Spokanistan and this is a great place to stock up at the source.
I am a HUGE fan of their vodka (tastes like butterscotch and is smoooooth as a baby’s bottom) as well as their gin. They also offer whisky and just started doing bourbon. All their ingredients are locally sourced. When we were last there they were offering tours and I’m sad we didn’t partake. I couldn’t find any reference to tours on the website you will want to call ahead. I do see that they offer consultations to other distillers so that is even cooler. They also offer tastings and there are several food options nearby.
I find their prices to be fair for the excellent product they are purveying and obviously you’ll likely get a better deal here than elsewhere. Last year they even offered a holiday pack of their bevvies that was discounted. Nothing says Happy Holidays like a discount on alcohol!

I stopped in here after checking out the «No-​Li» (formerly Northern Lights) brewery next-​door for lunch. Unfortunately, I was expecting friendly service from local people that wanted to sell their quality, small-​batch product. When I entered the store there was one other person checking out at the counter. I looked around the one-​room operation a little, and was helped promptly. From that point on, I felt like my presence was an irritation to the guy that introduced himself as one of the owners.
I mentioned that I was new in town, wanted to check out the locally made product and was just stopping by to check out the operation, taste/​buy their product, and see if they had a tour. Who knows what they had going on (I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that they were busy in the distilling process), but despite my attempts at small talk and inquiries of the equipment or process, I was pretty much met with very short and ever so slightly snide answers (and no — they only «sometimes offer tours on Friday or Saturday if they have nothing going on»…or so I was told). It’s one room for goodness sakes, and I was the only customer in the store. After I mentioned I would buy a bottle, he brightened a little and showed me the room where they have the casks of whiskey, but that was the extent of the good will I was shown. The guy wasn’t mean, but I left after 5 minutes of entering feeling like the nosy neighbor that has overstayed their welcome. The spirits seemed decent compared to other craft distilleries’ wares I’ve tasted. I just wish they would have shown a little more courtesy to someone interested in supporting their locally operated business.

This is the best craft gin, whiskey & vodka I have ever had the pleasure of tasting, truly artisan quality. To me, their gin is especially outstanding; it’s rare to find a gin that is so stand out good on its own — no need to add tonic & lime here! It’s also extremely impressive to me that all their ingredients are locally sourced, and they support their community with an avid and admirable loyalty. This is an all-​in-​one facility; production, tasting & selling, so stop in and see how they make it while you taste it, and I know you’ll be sure to buy it.

Like many other reviewers have mentioned, this is a great place to go in, taste some of their spirits and tour their production facility. Everyone who I talked to when I visited was very nice and extremely knowledgeable. Their spirits are all very tasty and I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. The Dry Fly Vodka is similar to some other 100% wheat artisan products on the market that have slightly more flavor that most products on the market. Personally, I enjoy that. I do not drink gin very often but theirs is not overpowering and I could see myself drinking it a lot.

Best gin you’ll ever taste. Generally I like tonic and lime with my gin but this gin is so good it doesn’t need any additions.
The Whiskey is pretty good too, but the gin is really a masterpiece.

The folks at Dry Fly certainly know their business. Hands down, Dry Fly has the best vodka I’ve ever tasted. It’s so good, you won’t want to sully its flavor with anything else. And as a major bonus, all their ingredients are locally-​sourced.
If you have time, I recommend stopping by Dry Fly’s Spokane headquarters on Trent for a tasting session. I sampled the vodka, gin, and whiskey – all of them stellar, by the way – and spoke at length with Don Poffenroth, one of the two owners. He was awesome and answered all of my questions… of which there were many.
Of course, you want to call first to make sure someone’s around. The tasting room & storefront are in the same room as the still and barrels, and someone will have to unlock the door to let you in. But don’t let that discourage you!
You can also find Dry Fly at most WA state liquor stores, along with their gin, whiskey, and recently released bourbon. Bear in mind, the whiskey and especially the new bourbon are not available everywhere… another good reason to stop by Dry Fly.
Plus, the smell in there is just plain amazing.

What an awesome local product and I am sad that I have moved across the state and will not be around for the Bourbon release.
Awesome Vodka. Gin if its your thing, and Even better whiskey!!! (worth the crazy 7 hour waits I did for release of batch 2 and 5 hour wait for batch 4). If you are nuts enough to wait for those releases, the guys give ya donuts, coffee and have a raffle to give out all sorts of awesome swag.
Go by when they are open and they are happy to give you a tour and explain the distilling process to you (it is in fact very interesting).
Sign up for their volunteer bottling opportunities! (It says something AMAZING about these guys that all their bottling is done by volunteer and there is a considerable wait list for the chance to do it). Will make for a fun night, and again — more free swag!
Love love love these guys. Im proud of what they do and ask anyone else in the Spokane area, they are too.

This local microdistillery produces craft-​distilled vodka, gin and whiskey using only locally grown grains. They are the first craft distillery in Washington State since the days of prohibition. Their spirits are highly regarded in many reviews and are quickly becoming a local favorite.
They have volunteer groups help them bottle their product and the community has really rallied around helping out. I got to bottle a couple weeks ago and it was fun time, and a very unique experience you can’t get in too many other places in the country.
They are open for tasting and purchase at their production facility. You can also find their vodka and gin at WA state liquor stores, and at many bars in the area. Their WA wheat whiskey is coming in August ’09.
