Originally founded as a destination management company for corporate events, Red Carpet evolved into a full service special event, party, and wedding planning and decorating company.

Karen N.

Business Owner

Karen was fortunate to find a career in the hotel business early in life, which then led her to find her true passion, special events and catering. Creating events that meet her clients goals as well as making them unique and interactive is Karen’s specialty. Having managed decorating and special events departments for several large Reno hotel-casinos, she learned how to work with talented staff to help clients create custom looks that fit any budget. Born and raised in Oregon, Karen still has a soft spot for her hometown of Eugene and the Oregon Ducks. An avid cycling fan, she never misses a day of the Tour de France each year. Karen loves to travel and is a dog lover. She also enjoys going to all of the fabulous special events in Northern Nevada.

If I could describe Karen Nichols in a phrase, I would say: she is like a fairy godmother and a creative connoisseur all in one! She was not only a pleasure to work with throughout my entire wedding planning process and extremely diligent on the day-of festivities, but she was always available and ready for anything. She was also very considerate of budgetary requests and out-of-the-box creative ideas. If you want something truly magical and unforgettable, there is no one I would recommend other than Red Carpet Events and Design! Why trust my opinion? I am a luxury bridal gown designer based out of New York and I had a blue unicorn at my wedding! Her ability to deliver on my concepts and also elaborate on my aesthetic vision is something I appreciate and find extremely inspiring.

We used Red Carpet Events for our October 2014 wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Incline Village. We rented an arch, lit up birch trees, patio furniture, bistro lighting, up lighting, ceiling «swag» and ceiling lighting from their business. My communication with Red Carpet was entirely with Kaitlyn through email. She was great at getting back to me, however she didn’t do a great job of reassuring me of her understanding of what I wanted and was expecting. I would explain my expectations, and attach pictures from similar events and she would respond by assuring me that everything was going to be «perfect». I would have preferred her to reiterate her understanding of what I was expecting instead of saying it was going to be beautiful or perfect. It just made me nervous! We needed the company to set up at a certain time because the florist needed to decorate the alter arch we had reserved. Kaitlyn assured us that the arch would be set up by noon, however, it wasn’t delivered until about 1:30 and it took awhile to set up. The florist was still decorating the arch when guests began arriving for our 3pm ceremony, which wasn’t exactly ideal. Although we weren’t thrilled by the vague email responses and their tardiness, we were beyond happy with how beautiful the décor turned out; especially the reception space with gorgeous lighting and ceiling styling. The outdoor furniture we rented was also a huge hit and allowed seating for our guests to sit outside and enjoy the lake views.

Myself and two friends recently embarked on a fundraising endeavor for a local nonprofit. We had grand ideas about how the formal affair would look, with red carpets, elegant music playing as guests were to enter and beautiful window coverings to enhance the dim lighting we desired. The only issue being, we had no budget.
I reached out to Red Carpet Events & Design for help. Not only were they the first company to agree to come on board as a corporate sponsor for the event– they went above and beyond the call of duty. Karen (owner) and Amy personally met me at the venue to discuss our needs, make expert recommendations and offer insight that our team has otherwise had no experience with. They thoughtfully put together a sponsorship proposal that not only included all of the donated items but also set-up and strike as provided by their team.
The event made the front page of the Reno Gazette Journal the following day and was deemed a «great success». This success is in large part due to their overwhelming contributions, and it would not have been the same without them.
If I could describe the philanthropic Red Carpet Design and Events in three words, they would be: tender loving care. Using them for any event whatsoever will undoubtedly be the best choice for anyone living in the Truckee Meadows area.

P. S.S. In response to the «Brides Beware!» post. I would merely beware of becoming a bridezilla, which seems to be the case for said author.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with another reviewer that said horrible customer service and bad business practices. My wedding flowers and decorations were done by Red Carpet Events. The person who I was working with left the company to start her own business, and from there everything went downhill. I had 3 other contacts I was working with and none of them really was focused on my wedding in particular. I had issues with details that would constantly change or be missing on my invoice. Every time I was sent something from them I had to go through it in extensive detail to then report back what was missing or incorrect. The owner Karen wasn’t very friendly either. I still however had high hopes that they would come through on my wedding day. They didn’t. The bouquets were wilting, including mine, and did not look like the pictures I had provided. Mine was just about the same size as my bridesmaids. The centerpieces they took upon themselves to add items that they must have thought looked nice, but for me, it was not what I asked for. They used LED floating candles that were very fake looking. I specifically chose floating arrangements because they were allowed to be real candles. There were similar candles used around the room on a box with gold fabric, and the fabric was completely wrinkled. I can’t imagine being that person that looked at it, knew it was wrinkled, and still put it there. Brides beware! If I have one vendor regret, this is it.

Red Carpet helped enhance our wedding ceremony and reception at the Hyatt in Incline Village. They took my vision and executed it and we were so pleased with their results! They also did our bouquets and boutonnieres and they were PERFECTION! Exactly what I was looking for and so beautifully done. We received many compliments on them and the décor! Highly recommend!

We used Red Carpet to help decorate our wedding this past summer. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with their ideas. Their prices were competitive and they did a good job meeting competitor’s prices. They were also incredibly flexible and worked with us over many, many iterations of our invoice. Julie is lovely– very sweet, very knowledgeable. Very much enjoyed working with her. highly recommend.

We had a last minute changes in our wedding reception (this happened a week before our wedding). I wanted to add a back ground design behind the sweetheart table. After looking at several designs, I have asked our wedding coordinator if she could refer us to any rental places in SLT. She only gave us two, the first one was not available. So I contacted this place and got a response and few quotes right away. Staff were great and easy to work with. They suggested that we should just add a ceiling swag as suppose to background wall draft. So we went ahead and hired them.
They came in a day early to setup the ceiling swag with lights. It was great. It made the room more romantic. Everyone was pleased with the ceiling design. I am happy with result and highly recommend this place.
