Salvation Army

I usually love this store but today I came in looking for depression glass and a employee didn’t know I was in the next isle and was mocking me for wearing pajamas. I just had surgery and feel like death. My feeling were so hurt. And I did let her know about herself. People should never say things like that just because they think that person isn’t around. I’m furious. And hurt. I feel so bad I thought adding some beautiful glass to my collection would make me feel better. :(I want to cry.

Management continually changes. I’ve seen this store change multiple times and management style is interesting to observe.
I take my children here to Christmas/​gift shop when my budget is tight. My ex paid for a portion of their choices one year. (I appreciated when you did that ex!)
This store has saved me alot of money while retaining my dignity as far as physical appearance. There are many choices and fitting rooms. Retail stores need not fear, everyone likes new clothes!
The store hires folks that most employers would not hire. Salvation Army in Detroit provides a place for homeless to sleep. Those who are lacking know if they get evicted, or whatever, they can go to Salvation Army to stay. Proceeds from this thrift store helps fund such programs. Non-​government social safety net, this non-​profit is appropriately named. Thank you Salvation Army!

Please! I like to diy and make things my own. A table was marked for .59 cents and they tried to charge me 5.99. I know it seems stupid to argue for six dollars but, it was clearly marked twice for that price. The girl who rang me up argued that the price was marked wrong. Michigan law states it has to be sold for what it’s priced. When I called to complain the manager hung up on me after giving me an attitude. I can find better items at garage sales and the d.a.v. than this place. I thought your donations go to help people, not rip people off.
** also the manager I spoke to, was the same one laughing at a transexual shopper in the store. I guess working for a thrift store makes you «right» to judge other people.

This is one of the better Salvation Army stores I’ve visited, and I’ve visited many in different states. The store is clean and well organized (for a thrift store.) The shoe and purse selection is dismal, but it’s not like they can control what is donated!
The prices are high. $ 7 for a long sleeved tee? No. But the half off one color tag saves the day, and the fact that you may also get a J. Crew cashmere sweater for $ 7, or a beautiful Ralph Lauren wool jersey button down for $ 9. I guess this is a common complaint I have about thrift stores — pricing. A top from Kohls shouldn’t be the same price as a top from a nicer store. Then again, the prices are often way too high on things the store thinks are from a good brand. Oh well. I will just say, the price has definitely stopped me from buying items here before. And that sucks. The Salvation Armys I shop at in NY have MUCH lower prices so maybe I am just being cheap.
They have tons of plus size clothing — my mom found said Ralph Lauren top in there, and a few other nice NWT sweaters.
They get a lot of points from me for labeling linens are far as what they are and what size. I wish all thrift stores would do this especially with sheets!
They offer a lot of nice discounts — senior, military, etc. Overall I really like this store and if you have time to look (it’s a huge store) you will probably find something fabulous.

This store is really organized for a thrift store. The problem is, I never find anything here. I usually browse for hours, find a couple of things I like (not love), then ultimately leave empty handed… every time. They do have furniture here if you like refinishing older pieces but personally, I think they are overpriced for the age and condition of the items. I like thrift shopping, I really do. I just don’t like this store.

Let me start by saying that I love the Salvation Army stores. I shop at them before I try buying something new.
I’ve been to this location at least half a dozen times and left with nothing. Sure I’ve picked up a few items to buy and even had several things in my cart but by the time I get to the front and see the line, I drop everything and leave.
It is not the cleanest or best organized Salvation Army nor are the people there very friendly. There are a TON of really nice stores. I’m just sad to say this in not one of them.

Clean, Well Organized and stocked location on eureka road in a major shopping plaza. they are open seven days. on saturdays they are usually crowded with bargain hunters and families. good deals during the month on color tag sales. nice used furniture and housewares can be found if you look closely.
they announce random specials while you are shopping and that quite often gives you incentive to spend more on nice clothes, some with tags still on them. designer purses and wallets can be found mixed in if you look.

Don’t ask why I’ve been spending a lot of times at the SAs lately, but I’m starting to think that managers have some personal discretion as to what kinds of deals they are announcing over the speaker system. At this Eureka Rd location, during my 20 minutes in the store, they announced 50% off specials for teachers or students with school ID, 50% off selected color tags, 60% off all women’s clothes during a 30 minute period, and 75% off if you could prove it was your bday. WEIRD!
I usually like spending as much time in the SA bric-​à-​brac section as their clothes section, and this place had one of the weaker bric-​à-​brac sections of the handfuls of SAs I’ve visited recently, BUT, I did notice a pricing error on something I wanted to buy, so not only did they correct the error, but they gave me a tiny extra discount for noticing it in the first place… SUPER friendly staff :) Also, this one is pretty big — almost as big as the giant Fort St. location downtown.

This Salvation Army had a surprising amount of like-​new clothes. Decent brands, too. It’s rare to find a thrift store that has both new-​ish clothes and some true vintage scores, but I spotted a pretty great later-​70s burgundy corduroy and canvas winter jacket as well as some brand-​new Forever 21, Gap and J. Crew tops.
Not the place to go for wide dress selection, and not necessarily the best place for accessories, either — both for tops, pants (there are try-​on rooms), and also for housewares, I’d come here again.
I scored a cheery sky-​blue flowerpot and a nice 80s purple and white striped shirt for under $ 9 total. I consider that worthy of repeat visits in the future!
