Three or four dollars for a donut is outrageous. We went in and turned around. Ridiculous.

I am a Donut junky! I came to visit my friends from California & they told me about this place that recently opened. Well I live in Orange County and we have the Original Donut Bar in OC& the main one first opened in San Diego, so these owners have taken a name that already exists and is actually award winning. I did try Southfield’s Donuts and they did not impress me at all, they were very dense & had more sweet stuff on them then the actual Donut. I would lower the cost of the Donuts and I would hire people that know how to make donuts. It’s not hard to Google and see who the real DonutBar is.

Nice donuts. Really expensive. $ 17 = 6 donuts + 1 med coffee. I am a bigger fan of «The Daily Dozen» on Woodward.

This could be the best donut created. The chicken and waffles donut is so unique and the staff is like AAA class.

I’ve tried a handful of their donuts such as the peanut butter cup, fruity pebbles, salted caramel, caramel apple, and others. They also have special flavors depending on the season or holiday, which is nice. They also serve illy coffee which goes great with their donuts. They’ve got their yeast donuts down pat, topping them with all types of things from cereal to peanut butter cups. I really appreciate the variety and novelty flavors they have… I really do. But to be honest, all the donuts have the same texture to them that gets old after a while. If they could try experimenting with different types of donuts(cake, cruller, old-fashioned, etc.), I think that would be really nice. I’m not saying they need a whole new selection but maybe 1 or 2 different style donuts that they can experiment with such as french cruller(my favorite) would be cool to see. Just a suggestion. PS: Oh and they sell out often so get their early or prepare to get the scraps.

Ok, count me in as a fan. So tasty, I got 6 and was only going to eat one but one of the people in the room was gluten free so two for me. I had their PBJ one which was just awesome such a great mix with the jelly, peanut butter and donut. The other one I had was one with apple and nut on it and some kind of great glaze. It seems like most donut places are not really caring about their donuts it is just push them out day after day and make sure you have enough, you all remember the«time to make the donuts» commercial, ok some of you might not. Anyway I like to think there are some artisan donut makers in the back that only care about making the tastiest, freshest donuts. Will be back.

The traditional glazed(two on the top right) were significantly smaller than the ones I’ve had here before. When I asked about it, the guy said that this batch came out smaller than normal. When I went to the register, I asked if I could get the two glazed ones for $ 1.50 since they were smaller than usual and the cashier refused to do so. Even after one of the workers admitted to the donuts being smaller. I did not appreciate this as I come in often and spend a lot of money to enjoy the quality of these donuts and to be shut down like that after seeing a noticeable difference in the size, makes me not want to be a customer anymore.

This place surprised me. I am NOT a fan of donuts(except Franklin Cider Mill.) Its not that I don’t like them really it’s just that I don’t enjoy them enough to justify the nutritional mayhem they cause. That said, the Donut Bar + Coffee might just do enough with their donuts to push them over the top. We went with 4 to start; a double chocolate, a chocolate M&M, a banana maple walnut, and a salted caramel. I know, I was disappointed that my kids went for the lame chocolate ones too but they were really good. Underneath all of the toppings on these donuts lies a soft über fresh donut that would actually be great all on it’s own. The chocolate just took it from solid to decadent. Both the salted caramel and banana donuts were phenomenal. Still too sweet for this old«bah humbug» but really really tasty. A couple of additional thoughts on this place: If you had to buy some donuts for some kind of work gig and wanted to impress this place would be a HOMERUN! Now, having said that, I would hope you have an expense account. At $ 3.50 or so as an average cost per donut, that bill might get large in a hurry but oh the impression you would make! Also, interestingly, this place has no set closing time. They close«when they run out of donuts.» It literally says something to that effect on the door. I suppose the more you went the better sense you might get of what that means. At 10 a.m. last Sunday morning, they appeared to be busy but still well stocked. In closing, I would say that I would never have gone here had my son not begged me. I am genuinely glad he did. However, I am hoping to forget that I ever saw it. This place could get dangerous in a hurry.

I’ve never been a donut guy — who the hell am I kidding? This is by far the best place for fresh, creative, and man sized donuts. My suggestions: Get here early as they close the store soon as they sell out. Excellent illy dark roast or medium coffee will help wash down these delectable flotation devices. Do not worry about counting calories as these are verified calorie free as they are made with love.

Oh. My. God. Whatever you do, GETTHETRESLECHESDONUT! Love at first bite. Yes it’s $ 4 and yes it’s kind of small but it’s perfect. We got a box of 6 donuts for $ 20 which is RIDICULOUS but hey, you get what you pay for. Love the wall art too– photos of retro-era celebrities and famous names eating donuts. Very cute.

As far as gourmet donuts in the area goes, they have cornered the market. If you’re looking to bring something special to an office meeting or for a co-workers birthday, this is it. You’re probably not going to stop here on a regular basis because the donuts are HUGE and around $ 3 each so it can’t be part of your daily breakfast routine unless you’re also clinically obese. So so so tasty though!!! I arrived early,(they close up when they sell out), and bought one of every kind and headed to my moms to share. The cereal covered donuts are cute but it’s just a plain donut inside with Fruit Pebbles on top. The cream filled donuts are the BOMB!!! Don’t miss!!!

Donut Bar + Coffee is definitely a place to check out! I tried three of their donuts, including the traditional glaze and raspberry crème. The donuts were soft, gooey, and just the right consistency. The service was great and the coffee tasted fresh and delicious. I almost think that I enjoyed the coffee a little bit more than the donuts! When I got there around 10am, they only had about 6 varieties left, so I suggest that you go early to be able to try something new and exciting. The prices were not too bad either. I would go back!

If you’re looking to impress at a meeting, brunch party, your kids etc. this would be a place you should stop! The donuts look and taste wonderful. They really get that«wow» appeal. I would not come here just to get glazed donuts because those will run you $ 2 a piece. You need to go here and order the specialty donuts. Just be prepared to pay $ 3-$ 4 a piece. I bought 18 donuts for our morning meeting and I did not hear one complaint. I can not personally tell you how they all tasted, but I can say everyone enjoyed them. The cookies and cream($ 3) was the one I tried and it was great. Not too sweet for the morning time and not dry or stale at all. Another favorite of the group was the maple bacon and the raspberry cheesecake. I wouldn’t go off all the negative reviews, I would say try it yourself. My boss who is very hard to please and has a refined palette, like myself, also loved his donut.

Opened for just over a month, the long and narrow donut shop offers fun flavors in keeping with its fun ambiance. In addition to traditional glazed and chocolate dipped, some more interesting flavors include M&Ms, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, Fruity Pebbles, Apple, Salted Caramel, Strawberry and Chantilly Cream, to name a few. I opted for the coconut and lemon custard, both of which were delicious. The shredded coconut was fresh and the lemon was filled with fragrant custard, lightly dusted in powdered sugar. A friend raved about the Fruity Pebbles. The shop itself features a narrow bar, enough space to hold a doughnut or two. Along the same wall, there are photographs of iconic actors and movie scenes with doughnuts photoshopped in. The staff was informative and friendly. This will definitely be a go-to the next time I bring in breakfast treats to work.

I really like Artisan donuts. Places like Dough in New York, the Doughnut Vault in Chicago, etc. There is SUCH a market for fancy artisan donuts in Michigan. If I knew how to make a donut I would TOTALLY open a place. Sadly — I have no idea how to bake a donut. Thats kind of what I feel is going on here. The owners maybe love donuts and totally recognized the untapped market in Michigan — but maybe they didn’t really know how to make a donut. The line is typically always out the door and they sell out early — which once again totally represents the opportunities in Michigan right now. The donuts are huge and weigh like a million pounds. They are super dense with not a lot of flavor(except for the super sweet glaze on top). A lot of their donuts also have cereal on top. You know what happens when cereal is added to a soft glaze and then left to sit out in the open? It gets soggy and stale. Yuck. Also, the donuts are not filled with anything(which is fine — I don’t like filled donuts) but they have no holes which is weird. Listen — I had super high hopes for this place and it pains me to write this review. Hopefully they will up their donut game over the next couple months. Or maybe someone from Dough can just open a place in Michigan!

Pretty disappointed with the donuts :(the donuts were expensive $ 3 – 4 per donut and they were dense and dry. I went early– at 8am and I tried the fruity pebbles, cinnamon toast crunch, coconut dream, and fruit loops donuts and the cereal on all of the donuts were just as stale as the actual donut. I’m not too sure what the hype is all about. If you’re in the mood for a GREAT donut try out: the donut cutter, apple fritter, knapps, and Dutch girl donuts. These donuts were not good… at all

Sadly, I wasn’t impressed at all by Donut Bar. I got some donuts to take to a meeting. I had read the other reviews and everyone seemed to rave about these donuts, so off I went to get some. Inside, the place is modern and sleek. There was a line nearly out the door and snouts were running out fast! Donut flavors of the day are written on a chalk board on the wall and displayed for you to see. Prices seemed a bit steep ranging from $ 2-$ 4 each! But I figured as long as they are good, I don’t mind. The young man working the counter was extremely friendly and enthusiastic. However, that’s where the good stuff ends. The donuts were just not very good at all. I was really disappointed. First off they are huge! Almost too big, maybe if they were smaller the consistency would be better. The donuts were very dense and heavy. No of our group enjoyed their taste, some were far too sweet, others had a strange bitterness to them. The one worth eating again was the strawberry margarita, which ironically was the only one that was a normal size-not massive. This place has a great concept, it reminds me of Mojo Donuts in Florida. However, they really need to work on their recipes. There’s no way these donuts can compete with the likes of Donut Cutter, Dutch Girl and Knapps. I do hope they improve because I think with some tweaks they could be much better.

I was born 9 months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which tells you something, so when I was a kid, donuts hadn’t been invented yet. As I got into my teens and twenties, we had plain«doughnuts,» as they were called, then glazed, then donuts filled with custard or whipped cream or jelly. I believe the inventor of the glazed sour cream donut won a Nobel Prize. Things start getting fancy in the 1970s. We started seeing blueberry donuts, chocolate donuts, donut holes, crullers(don’t ask). The new millenium saw cronuts and decorated«theme» donuts. The new millenium was 15 years old when the next stage in donut evolution happened. It’s call Donut Bar + Coffee, and it’s locates in Southfield, Michigan, at the corner of Southfield Rd and 12 Mile Rd. The donuts are so amazing, the shop is attracting people from all over southeast Michigan. When we went there at 7:30AM one Saturday morning, the line was out the door. The good news is that the service is fast and so the line moves pretty quickly. The bad news is they are usually sold out by 10:00AM, so get your butt over there early. The first time you see one of these donuts you might think, «Oh, this is too much for one person. I’ll share it with someone.» But after you take that first bite, you’ll be like, «I dunno, it isn’t THAT big. Why should I share it with someone? What did someone do to deserve half of my donut? Who do they think they are? Honestly, some people.» We had the one with strawberries and Chantilly cream, the one with salted caramel, and the one with Nutella. All three scored 10 out of 10 with us. We’ve also had the«Tres Leches»(three creams), an item infused with two kinds of cream and topped with a third kind and fresh berries. It melts in your mouth, literally. They were obviously handmade with lots of care and love. The word«artisanal» has been overused in recent years, but it perfectly describes these donuts.

One donut could feed a small village. Two donuts would cause 15% of a small village to develop diabetes. The 15% who now have diabetes would tell you the pain they are in is worth it. Even the guy who lost his foot to the sugar foot. If you want something thick, curvy, and will cause you serious heath problems for 2 dollars you have a couple of choices. I would recommend choosing these donuts. PS, please get better coffee. Maybe something roasted local?

I’ve been waiting so long for a donut shop like this to open up in Michigan!!! I love, love, love this place! Adorable atmosphere, kind staff and most importantly DELICIOUSDONUTS!!! The donuts are fresh, tasty and so much fun to look at. I bought two dozen for my nieces birthday and both the kids and adults went nuts for them. An added bonus is that they also serve illy’s coffee. The double chocolate and glazed are my favorite donuts so far. Looking forward to trying them all!
