Wooly Rascals is a family owned company that specializes in sheepskin slippers and leather bags. We have several different styles of slippers ranging from indoor house slippers to outdoor moccasin, to boots. We use Merino sheepskin, and the well known vibram sole for our outdoor styles.

Our leather bags are all hand cut, hand sewn, and handmade. We pick the leather we like the best based on quality and look. Our lining in the slingbag is a thinner, lighter leather, making it last longer than silk or moray lining, and making it easier to see inside the bag. We have smaller sized bags, convenient for passports, traveling, or for a night where you want to carry your things but still have the bag be small and discrete.

History

Established in 1989.

Previously, Chris Gurdal made leather garments and his own company was called «Gurdal Leather and Suede» in 1984. In 1989, Chris’s company received contract orders from Sawyers of Napa and L.L. Bean to manufacture their sheepskin slippers. They soon moved their manufacturing operations overseas and since then, Chris has changed his focus, and he has stayed in the Bay Area, producing only the best quality products under the name of Wooly Rascals.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Chris Gurdal was born in Istanbul Turkey. He is a musician (plays guitar and harmonica) and has worked as a tour guide and eventually as a designer in well known leather factories in Istanbul. He decided to make the move to the United States in 1978.

Chris and his wife Charlotte are involved with all aspect of their business. This includes designing, cutting, sewing, finishing, as well as marketing and bookkeeping. They have one full time apprentice to help them. They also have three kids who help out when needed.

He says the most gratifying aspect of his work is when he is helping a customer at a show in 100 degree heat and when the customer says, «I know my size and I know your wonderful product. Please give me the darn thing let me get out of here!» The majority of his customers are repeat customers.

Chris & Charlotte take great delight in telling new customers how happy they will be with their slippers and what a wonderful product they are purchasing.
