First time coming to Luminous and it will not be the last. Dee (Boss lady) and her staff are friendly and kind.
My mother in-​law and I were given a warm welcome and brought to the back to a nice and quite lounge area. My mother in-​law had the head to toe treatment while I opted for just a 1 hr deep tissue massage. Per my in-​law, her treatment was fantabulous and delicious. Yes, delicious! She walked out of Luminous feeling brand new. As for my experience, let me just tell you… OH MY GOD! Maritza is AMAZING. The knots in my back are gone! 1 hr deep tissue massage was not enough. I will definitely be coming back soon. Hidden gem in South San Francisco.

hosted an intimate, ladies only baby shower here and off the bat, the staff is amazing! Very accommodating, very nice and very pleasant to deal with, via e-​mail & phone.
From the front of the building you wouldn’t think much of it. it looked like there was some construction going on. However, when you walk in it looks nothing like the exterior. (Never judge a book by it’s cover!) after you’re happily checked in, you walk down a corridor of treatment rooms, which are super relaxing by the way. At the end of the hall there is the common room, which I have to say is beautifully decorated. Very relaxing atmosphere and CLEAN! (Huge thing for me! LOL) They have yummy citrus water to serve and comfy seating! We opted for the beverage and food package. They had out mimosas, cheese, Fruit, Chocolate covered pretzels and tea! all very yummy. After our mingle time, we were escorted to our treatment rooms.
I wish I had chosen for the longer version of the aromatherapy massage! But oh man, my little 45 min. massage was AH-​MAZING! regretfully I forgot who my masseuse was, but she was great and super friendly.
My husband got a gift certificate from here so I will definitely be coming back with him!

First time getting services here, bought certificate for others here but never been. Very nice, love the setting there. They are very professional. Received a foot massage from Clarissa i believe and she was great! Will return soon! Dee is pretty awesome too! Thank u ladies for a great first experience.

LOVE this place. Who would have thought somewhere in downtown SSF there’d be such a beautiful spa? The staff here have always been so polite and accommodating as far as trying to book appointments. I’ve gotten massages here probably once a year on average for the past few years. However, I recently had a baby so this is the year of massages because Mama needs to relax! My friend (also a new mom) and I have come here twice since giving birth and we each decided to sign up for a monthly membership. It may not be the cheapest membership available, but considering the ambiance, staff, and products they use are top notch, it’s definitely worth it!
Bring coins for metered parking. Oh, and gotta love their chocolate covered pretzels and spa water that they have in the lounge. Yummy!

This gem tucked away in downtown SSF is a lovely place to relax. I’ve gotten a treatment here myself and also gift certificates here for my mom to enjoy (she loves it and indulges here when she can). They also nicely wrap their gift certificates so you don’t have to worry about doing that yourself. During my facial, my aesthetician was very thorough and put me in a relaxed mood. The bed I laid on was comfortable and temperature was just right. They also provide blankets you can utilize if you do get a bit colder. No one was pushy with selling products, which I really appreciated. Other places make you feel like your skin will be horrible unless you buy exactly what they’re selling. I actually made a very last minute same-​day appointment which I was a bit late to, but the receptionist was very accommodating. Parking was very easy, since there is a small lot nearby, but I came during an off-​peak hour for most of the surrounding businesses. My sister has also had exclusive use of this place through one of their couple’s packages and she really enjoyed her time and service here. You don’t feel like you’re in the middle of SSF at all when you’re within their walls. I highly suggest coming here to treat yourself or to treat someone else.

I always get great massages here. Maritza is fantastic! The lounge is relaxing and rooms are warm and clean. I was recently there, and after a stellar massage, I noticed the oil used didn’t mix with my chemistry and I wanted to rinse it off ASAP. I was heading to lunch and didn’t want to offend any patrons. I asked to use the shower and was given instructions on how to use the nozzle, etc., Oh — «and it’s an additional $ 20 to use it, is that okay?»
Ummm… NO. No thanks, for $ 20, I’ll take my smelly chances. That extra charge isn’t mentioned anywhere and I’ve never been asked to pay extra for the use of a spa shower. Got the locker, the robe and slippers — why no shower included with this?
Regarding the robe, slippers and locker — first time ever offered them. Been there at least 4 times. Not a big deal.
Great massages. Weird /​inconsistent «spa» experiences. Massage most important to me. Will return again soon.

I love this place. It’s a bit minimalist in terms of locker areas and luxury add-​ons, but hands down the best value for a 90 minute massage in the Bay Area. I’ve been going every few months for the last year and half and have not had a bad experience yet.
I’ve had a facial here once and that went well too. Monica made some nice recommendations and did not push really hard for me to buy any of the products she used.
Parking is really convenient in the lot next door – it’s free in the evenings and Sundays, and relatively cheap meters on Saturday. A lot of the meters in the neighborhood only take quarters though, not credit cards.

I tried the Luminous Mini today, which is a 75-​min session that includes a 30-​min facial (no extractions), 30-​min massage, and a 15-​min foot scrub. I wanted a longer massage and asked if I could add on an extra 45 mins, and Rose accommodated my request :). The facial was first, then they have you re-​dress and wait in the lounge for your massage therapist.
I usually see Stephanie, but my Aesthetician today was Sonia and my Massage Therapist was Monica. I highly recommend both of them!
Sonia has a gentle and soothing/​relaxing touch, and her hands are amazingly soft! She also didn’t talk a lot or tried to sell me products during the session, which I appreciated. Lastly, she gives an amazing face massage :)
I just came back from a trip so I asked Monica to do a full body massage with medium pressure and some lower back stretches. The massage was amazing, the pressure was perfect, and she is highly knowledgeable with different kinds of stretches. I highly recommend her if you like sports massage!
It’s my 3^rd time visiting and have consistently received great service from all employees, so it’s safe to say that this is my go-​to spa now :). I do wish they offered private baths before or after a service like the one Kabuki Spa offers, but it’s okay because the excellent service makes up for it!

Could I love this place anymore? The only downside is the parking outside (it’s on grand ave in south city, so that’s to be expected). When you approach, the outside leaves much to be desired and it doesn’t look that relaxing but when you enter its a whole different world! There is zen, calming music floating through the air and the lights are dimly lined against the walls and a top furniture so as to keep you within that serenity. The air smells like lavender and chamomile tea and there are candles flickering on every surface. The massages are amazing and have actually fixed many of my shoulder and upper chest pain problems. Things I thought I had to live with before! Their facials are pretty great as well, but I don’t have as much experience in those. If you haven’t gone, you must go! The prices are such good deals and you will want to keep coming back! Love love!

Wow! What an amazing experience ! I first called knowing nothing about the spa… Dee the owner answered and blew me away with her great attitude and energy she really listened to my needs and told me she had the perfect person for me and… she was right! Stephanie was so professional in the best way… she has an intuitive understanding of the body and respects your time with not a lot of chit chat ! The best hour and message I have had ever! If you want a true class act when it comes to a spa and message therapist run yes run, to luminous day spa! The best on the peninsula and San Francisco hands down !

My massage therapist for the day was Monica, must recommend her! I felt so relaxed after my session. My only regret is that I should have booked a longer massage session with her instead of getting all the other extra stuff.
My facial and foot therapy was done by Stephanie. She has the softest hands and the products she used on my face really made my skin look and feel great. The foot massage/​scrub was ehhh. I wasn’t too comfortable lying on the table while getting my feet done. I wish they offered you pillows or sit somehow. I literally have been laying in the same position for nearly an hour. It was not what I expected.
Before or after your treatment, there is a lounge area where you can sit back and relax. They offer hot tea, fruit infused water, and some chocolate pretzels.

Came here to celebrate my birthday with a small group of friends, and the owner arranged for us to have the lounge area to ourselves for a little while with mimosa bottle service and various treats.
My friends and I had either Swedish massage or the Luminous facial. All of us really enjoyed our services and plan to come back!
I received a facial and it was amazing! The aesthetician who worked on me was Amber who was super nice. It was so relaxing and peaceful. The hour flew by too quickly.

I personally didn’t experienced the massage or facial treatment but booked here for a Mother’s Day gift for my mom & grandma.
They were really accommodating over the phone as I’m coming out from east bay and making a somewhat last request appointment on a holiday. I told them it was a surprise gift and everything was noted. They called me and made several confirmations along the way until day of services. They allowed me to pre-​pay over the phone including tip prior to service so my mom & grandma had nothing to worry about and if they wanted additional services they said they can call me to confirm before adding charges (but that ended up not being necessary).
My grandma was highly nervous to receive the massage and I told them, from beginning to end front desk and staff were great. When I mean nervous, she was trying out ways to get out of the service haha.
They let me stay with them in the inside seating area until their services started and explained what they will be getting to my grandma (who’s English isn’t her strongest suit). Super relax and nicely maintained area. When I picked them up later that day, they were all smiles. My grandma who was ready to escape earlier was smiling from ear to ear and told me she really enjoyed herself and loved the facial and foot massage! And wanted to do it again. They both highly recommended the facials and my mom is adverse to massages but enjoyed this experience to her previous ones at salons I’ve taken her.
For the price and great service I highly recommend this place. I’ve searched around price wise around SF and East Bay Area and feel like you definitely get a great package service at a reasonably fair price here!

Luminous is a great place to go when you want to feel like you need to get away. Even if it’s for a few hours you won’t regret it. I’m always pleased when I leave here. You can shower, lounge, and get a massage or facial. There’s also fruit infused water ready and chocolate pretzels to snack on. Wonderful ambiance and I’m glad service and the vicinity are still stellar after a few years. Can’t wait to go back.

I came here for a bridesmaids’ spa day with my aunt and her bridal party. One of her friends had reserved the entire spa for us a few weeks prior and our services had to be at least $ 75 each I believe. There also needed to be a minimum of 12 people for the group to reserve privately. We had to pick our services in advance so the manager could plan out our services.
They had the entire lounge set up for us with robes, snacks, and drinks (champagne, sparkling cider and water). It was a gorgeous set up. I really cannot put it into word. Such a calming, welcoming aura.
The schedule was next to the refreshments so we knew who was doing our service and what time our appointment would be. I got a lavender body scrub, which lasted around 45 minutes and felt amazing! Maritza did my scrub and she was informative, friendly and so thorough with the massage and scrub. My whole body felt so soft and rejuvenated after. I will definitely come back!
We all had mostly different services, though some people had more than one service, with facials, massages, scrubs, and teeth whitening:) We checked in around 12:45pm and services went from 1pm to 4pm. We were all finished by 5:30pm and paid separately. We paid a cleaning fee too but that was included in our bill.
Overall, this was such a relaxing, pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend it to anybody in a bridal or birthday celebration, or even people who just want to «treat yo-​self». This place is

I had a private bachelorette spa party here. Dee, the owner is so nice. She made everything very easy and responds to emails quickly. The rest of the staff was great too and my massage was excellent. I found a great massage place for a good price and not far from my house.
It’s so nice to have the whole place to yourself. They let you decorate and bring cupcakes if you want. You can order lunch with them, which I did to make things easier. The food was pretty good (pasta and salad) You get cheese and salami plate. Beverages are all set up with citrus water, tea, champagne and orange juice.
There are 2 bathrooms and they give you robes and slippers. You can be as loud as you want because you have the whole place to yourself, but when you are getting your massage, you can hear your party talking and laughing.
For a party they take a $ 250 deposit and will refund you but I told them to use it towards my massage, food, and cleaning fee. Also they charge 18 percent tip for spa parties for each person on top of their service. Cleaning fee is $ 35. Food comes out to about $ 18 a person.
Plenty of street parking. All meter about one hour to 2 hour time limit, BUT if you park in the lot next to the spa with meters, it’s a 5 hour limit. Make sure to bring lots of coins!

Luminous Mini… hands down. I never understood the joy of spas until I came here. I can’t really compare to other places cause I don’t spa a lot… but the facial, neck and shoulder rub, foot scrub, foot massage and Swedish body massage was worth it! I’m glad my friend had a spa party here :). I really needed to be pampered. Great belated Mother’s Day gift to myself! Oh, there’s a parking lot but it’s metered so don’t forget your coins, it’s $ 1 for an hour.

Wow. first time getting a facial. First time getting a more traditional foot scrub and massage. What a treat! I officially love facials now more than back massages.
This place is clean, zen, quiet, and very calming. The staff is incredibly friendly, and accommodating. The facility is beautiful and comfortable. The luminous facial was incredible. She did an awesome job being incredibly gentle, and soothing. I’m dreaming about the next time I get to go! The day after, several people told me my skin looked nice and clear. The 30 min foot scrub could have lasted all day. Thoroughly enjoyable. Your skin will be so soft and supple.

I was tasked to plan an all-​girls day spa party here last summer for our bride friend. This place was fantastic and the spa party coordinator (her name was Dee) was great to work with during the months and weeks leading up to the event date. It made the planning experience a breeze and she was such a joy to work with via our numerous emails. If you want to reserve a group event here, make sure you do it months ahead since it’s a popular place for summer time.
On the event day, our host (his name was Bernard –I think that’s the correct spelling) was truly excellent. He had the most positive attitude and made sure all of our needs were met for each girl’s spa request. The food set-​up was beautiful too. Bernard, you were great! The only ‘con’ about my individual massage session here was that it was a bit noisy during the «quiet hour» — Is it because the ceilings for each room had an ‘open-​ceiling concept’? I heard some outside noises in the hallway. But overall, still enjoyed my time here except for that minor part. Other than that, it was a perfect event and our group had a GREAT TIME. Spa prices were reasonable too.

I planned a birthday event for my friend and we were able to rent out the whole space for a few hours which was super nice. They provided us a large area in the back of the space where two bathrooms were located, champagne, orange juice, grapes, chocolate covered pretzels, water, cheese and crackers, and much more! Those were all free with our treatments for the party we planned.
We each got our own treatment which had to be $ 45 or more for our party. I put a security deposit of $ 250 which I haven’t gotten back yet, after being told it would take 3 – 5 business days. I will update this review as soon as they resolve this, but I am not pleased that it has almost been 6 business days not including a weekend that already passed by…
Other than that, I personally had the eye revitalizing treatment with Nicole who was super gentle with my eyes and had such a gentle voice that it put me into relaxing mode asap. She was able to answer a few of my questions on how to take better care of my eyes, and she even massaged my eyebrows haha, which I thought was different and interesting. We had time to hangout after our treatments before we left as well. We all had a relaxing afternoon here and would definitely come back. I am going to take my mom back here one day if I get my security deposit that is.

Got my security deposit back after 2 weeks, but I still give them 4 stars for great customer service and treatment services. Dee response to emails quickly and dealt with the situation to the best of her abilities. I appreciate it.
