Business Owner

Alan graduate Cornell University in 1996 with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. After college he spent 15 years in the construction industry working on commercial, residential and cultural projects in Washington, DC, Baltimore and New York City. He has worked with a variety of architects, engineers, consultants and owners and has the unique ability to view a project from all perspectives.

After spending a year traveling abroad, Alan came back to New York City to pursue his passion for hands on construction. Alan Michael Carpentry was created in 2010 as an opportunity to pursue his love of creating and helping others realize their dreams.

We hired Alan to renovate our two bland and dated bathrooms. We were initially impressed with his professionalism and expertise, coupled with his calm demeanor. Being new homeowners and first-​time renovators (without a professional designer’s help), we definitely needed some guidance with the project.
Alan is incredibly easy to talk to, bounce ideas off of, and overall a great collaborator. From suggesting materials, fixtures and finishes to creating custom niches, ledges and shelves, Alan and his team were helpful, thoughtful, patient and flexible. The level of detail and quality of craft in their work will benefit our daily lives for years to come.
I have already recommended Alan to friends, and will continue to do so. We look forward to working with him on future projects.

I’ve recommended Alan and his crew to many. AMC has done beautiful work for me. Whether it was converting a bathroom into a workspace, creating two half baths out of a full bath, putting up walls, or demolition, their work is clean and professional and they don’t disappoint. The best part about working with Alan and his team is that they will work with you to solve unforeseen problems that might crop up and they treat each job as if they were creating for themselves.

We hired Alan Bowes and Alan Michael Carpentry as the general contractor for our 3-​bedroom apartment on the Upper East Side. The renovation included a gut of the kitchen and three bathrooms, plus extensive millwork and other details. The end result was gorgeous. Throughout the renovation Alan was always available for questions and always exceedingly honest and open about costs and changes. He thought of smart solutions to unforeseen problems that arose. As first-​time renovators we were relieved to find an honest, smart and fairly priced contractor. We’ve already recommended him to some of our friends.
