Thatcher’s Restaurant & Sports Pub

Soooo not impressed. I ended up bring my tables beer mugs back to the bar and ordered drinks from the tender because my party of 7 couldn’t compete with the party of 20 when it came to tips. WTF. Waitresses looked at our table, 5 empty beers, continued to walk on by and didn’t ask us anything. Had more fun because we weren’t bothered by annoying waitresses. Gonna have to find another establishment that cares about patrons.

Worst service in history, I don’t think I’d ever come back here. Two waitresses in and we are a table of seven, one waitress would not open a tab and wanted to charge my card per drink.

I have come to the conclusion after 3 or so bland lunches here that everything is either frozen or out of a box. Without ketchup, salt, and pepper, its not edible.

Thatchers is a cavernous sports pub with mediocre food. I have gotten the usual pub fare there, nachos mozzarella sticks etc… And they taste probably exactly as you might imagine they would.
The reason why I am giving them 3 stars instead of 2, is that every Saturday night through the fall and winter, they host live dance bands with no cover! Most of the bands I have seen there have been great! There is a huge dance floor right in front of the band and the crowd seems like it spans from 20 somethings all the way through dance enthusiasts in their 60s and 70s. Which actually makes for a really unique and fun vibe, certainly nothing like anything else I’ve seen around here!
I would definitely check out Thatchers on Saturday night (I believe bands play from 8 – 12), especially if YOU are a dance enthusiast!

Worst experience I’ve had in a long time anywhere. Went to see my friends band play their. Almost got hit it in the face by a drunk guy swing a chair around and then while standing watching the band the manager came over and told my fiancé was to big to be standing up and that he was in the way and that we either had to sit down or leave. Will never go there again.

Food was ok, maybe a bit less than ok… beer was too cold and selection was poor. The space is not inviting, one huge brightly lit room that does not make me want to relax with a few beers. Maybe good for the college crowd to gather and get bent, but not much else.

Had a piece of haddock today that was not cooked at all when I tilt the bar staff they said sorry we can reheat no hanks I was turned off by then they didn’t offer me anything else like half off or a free beer thought that was kind of rude I go there a lot maybe no more.

Thatchers South Portland has the best wings hands down. I love the Jerk wings. You get an order of 12 nice meaty wings and hand cut fries and celery carrots and blue cheese or ranch for 9.99. Great deal. No extra charges for Ranch or celery like Buffalo Wild Wings. Best place in town to watch sports! Service is great too.

I went for the dancing! Great band (Fender Bender), lots of room on the dance floor, friendly and helpful service. The food was good, too!

So Thatchers, thatcher, thatcher… Potentially this place could kill it. Lots of large tvs, open space, nice smoking area, pool table, and arcade games in the back.
BUT…I went once buy choice. Food was nasty, it was horribly deep fried, almost tasted like the frying oil never got changed. I am not a fan of fried food, but this made my stomach sick. Also the service was very slow, food and drink wise.
The next few times I was forced to go cause of business events. We got too try most of the fried dung. Every app and dish was horrible. The waitress could not keep up with beers, and the food came out way too late.
If you plan to eat here, go to the bar and shoot down a few whiskey shots, chased with beers. Then order 3 beers to take with you to your table. This way the food might taste ok, and the 3 beers will hold you over for when the waitress finally comes back to the table.

We went last night and took a couple of friends who were visiting from out of town.
We were greeted and asked if we were with the Retirement Party. We said no and were told we could sit anywhere except the section to left as that was reserved for the party. We moved to the other side and were about to sit at a table when a waitress came and asked if we were with the party. We said no and were told, «we’ll you can’t sit here, it is reserved for a birthday party» I asked then please tell us where CAN we sit? And she pointed to the high tops. We sat and one of our party had difficulty sitting in the chair (kept sliding off) and asked if we could move to an open table. The waitress nastily said no, that the table belonged to a different server and the management won’t permit the change! Seriously?
The service was horrible yet again! The only time she came back was to give us the bill. No refills on drinks or checking to see if the food was ok.
I will say I have never had a big problem with the food. That is not Thatchers problem, their biggest problem are rude, non-​accommodating, in attentive wait staff.
I suppose if all they want for customers are beer guzzling twenty something’s who don’t care about service, then Thatchers is on track. As for me and my business, we will go someplace where we feel appreciated.

Looks like it could be a fun drinking spot. They have a lot of TVs and quite a few games (pool, darts, video). The food howevere is passable at best.

Thatchers is very close to my office so this is a easy quick stop for the occasional happy hour drink and pool game. VERY STIFF drinks. This helps justify the fairly high prices. The food is not anything to be excited about but that’s not what I go for. Location, speed, space, pool and Wii bowling make this a pretty cool place after a rough day of work.

Great entertainment and food.

A sports bar that’s cool with non-​sports folks. Me, I’m a basketball freak, that’s it, could care less about baseball, football, hockey, blah-​blah-​blah, and yet I’m still welcomed. I go ’cause it’s close to home, for the conversations with bartender Chris and the manger Dave, and cause they’ve got the good whiskey style tequila. It’s a typical of a sports bar in that sports are, of course, on every TV in the joint, and yeah when the Red Sox, Patriots, or Celtics are kickin’ it’s a hoppin’ place to be with bells ringing, high-​fives down the line, and some serious hootin’ and hollerin’. But there is plenty of space to hide in a corner, play some pool, throw a dart or two and merely let the troubles of the day ebb and flow.
