Specialties
PSI is a 5 day camp held at the South Pasadena Music Center and Conservatory. June 22 to 26, 2015 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
At PSI, students are inspired to become self-motivated, self-sufficient musicians. They collaborate daily with other campers, such as in ensemble playing and other group activities. They participate in masterclasses and peer performances, where they learn to listen effectively and constructively critique their own and others’ playing. They are challenged to achieve not only mastery of their music but also encouraged to build confidence in their abilities as pianists and people.
History
Established in 2014.
Two years ago, we created Piano Summer Intensive (PSI) as part of a doctoral project, aimed to challenge the current system of piano teaching. We weren’t satisfied with simply building a music camp to supplement lessons, but we wanted to launch a camp that would truly make an impact on the students through building lasting relationships with their music and with one another.
Meet the Manager
Jackie T.
Manager
In 2014, Jackie launched PSI (Piano Summer Intensive), a camp which aimed to inspire the love of music for «average» piano students while instilling healthy habits of discipline. Originally a project for her Doctor of Musical Arts: Arts Leadership minor field, the camp has gained attention for its innovative and progressive principles.
Jackie earned her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance in 2015, under the tutelege of Bernadene Blaha. Her areas of study were: Music Education, Arts Leadership, and Jazz Studies. She was the first recipient of the Dorothy L. Gleason Memorial Scholarship, and served as a Teaching Assistant for the Keyboard Department.
