Mary Ann Aronsohn, MA, LMFT

Wow. If I could give 10 stars, I would. Myself and the mother of my child were ordered to do 5 hours of high conflict parenting classes. I wasn’t sure that this would be very useful for me, but I gave it a shot. Not only was I blown away by what I’ve learned, but I will continue to use her services on an ongoing basis voluntarily.
Some specifics:
1. Mary Ann is extremely knowledgeable about a wide variety of important topics, from parenting strategies to child psychology, from anger management to how custody evaluations work, and more.
2. She genuinely cares about people, and especially about the welfare of the child or children. That makes all the difference. If you’re going through a divorce or custody battle and everyone else seems to treat your child as a pawn or a prize to be divided up, Mary Ann is a breath of fresh air.
3. She is a great coach, and adapts herself to the client’s learning style. Sometimes I wanted her to ‘lecture’ and teach me about something. Sometimes, I wanted to tell her my understanding of something, so she could tell me where I was right and wrong. Sometimes, I want her to role play and test the application the skills I learned from her. Etc. All of which was done with a high level of confidence and enthusiasm.
4. She is not a know-​it-​all. When we hit on occasional subjects beyond her area of expertise (which isn’t to do, and requires leaving the topic of co-​parenting entirely), she’s not afraid to say what she knows and also what she doesn’t know.
5. She is interesting and engaging. I have an attention span of about 5 seconds normally. I spent 5 hours with her this week. We went overtime, and she had to end the session, and I was ready for me.
6. Most of all, she cuts through the BS to get you straight to specific, actionable techniques, ideas, and practices that can IMPROVE YOUR LIFE.

I started working with Mary Ann 7 years ago after a significant loss, and I felt immediate relief during my first meeting. She is incredibly knowledgeable, sympathetic and genuine. Mary Ann helps you navigate any situation or relationship in the most healthy and beneficial way. This is the best investment anybody could make, and having the right guidance from a professional like Mary Ann will only add to the quality of your life.

I am a colleague of Mary Ann Aronsohn. We have been in many professional groups together over the years. I have really gotten to know her in the last several years based on the many hours we have spent in our offices together working with parents as they struggle through very difficult divorces. She and I do collaborative divorce coaching work together; in this process we much trust each other’s knowledge and instinctive ability to perceive what a client needs. She has never let me down or disapointed me in any way. Her knowledge of families, including children and adolescents is outstanding. This is demonstrated in her suggestions and interventions to improve individual and family functioning as our clients go through this often long and wrenching process. We work together in the same room with a soon to be ex-​couple. I have never observed any preference for the female/​mother client; she is kind and considerate of both clients in the room.
On a personal basis, I see her as a person of integrity, working hard to maintain her knowledge base and professional networks, attending trainings and maintaining membership in many professional organizations. I would not hesitate to recommend her to families or individuals of any age.

I’ve lost all confidence inMary Ann. Firstly, she is incapable of understanding parent/​teenager issues. What I learned in parenting classes that Mary Ann recommended is a complete failure in putting those elements into practice in parent/​teenager therapy sessions.
Secondly, Mary Ann’s approach to co-​parenting show the same deficiencies noted above plus a bias toward Mothers.
After engaging in two types of therapy for 6 months to 1 year. I have been unable to uncover any useful effectiveness.
Sigh. What an expensive (money and time) mistake I’ve made.
