This place is great! They have a huge selection of food and I love the environment. There is a nice dining area if you want a more intimate dinner and there is a bar side with good music and drinks.

My work throw their holiday party here which is alright. They serve finger food which tastes delicious but the waiters don’t come out often enough with the food. I came here once for dinner and had the salmon burger which was good. However, this restaurant can be pricey. Portion sizes are good.

Elegant yet comfortable atmosphere. Huge menu made me nervous that nothing would be good, but I was wrong. I had the duck two ways entrée and it was meaty, tender and superb. Crispy skin and tender meat, breast cooked to order and leg and thigh tender. Served with mashed butternut squash. Glass of Shiraz. Too full for desdert. Excellent attentive service. Would come again and have duck again.

The service was great! We were sat immediately and after about two minutes our server greeted us! I think his name was joe. He was very nice and helpful when it came to making dinner decisions. He was always prompt to refill our drinks and clean dirty plates out of our way which is very appreciated. My potato skins were amazing and huge! And for once a place served enough sour cream with it that I didn’t have to ask for more. My steak sub was so juicy and delicious and the French fries were so good! We didn’t have room for dessert but I’m sure it would have been good. We will be back soon!

Great renovation to the bar area gives it a much more upscale lounge feel. Solid cocktails and bar menu appetizer items. Friendly staff that try and get to know you and not just push you out the door. Good brunch especially the French toast!

The outdoor seating was nice and I went with friends on a nice summer day. However, the food was very average. In fact one of my friends ordered the cheese platter which wasn’t cheap so she was expecting and assortment of fine cheeses. Instead what she found was some of the cheeses were wrapped in cotton candy! Not exactly what we were expecting given the price. Otherwise the Resturant was fine and if in the area I would go but not running back.

I give this place a great rating. Service, food, live band. This place is a must. I dont know why it has a low rating. Paul our server was amazing. Food was delicious and live music. I ordered the mashed potatoes and jumbo shrimo with crab. Delicious! !!. Please visit and judge yourself. I highly recommend this restaurant.

love this place food and drinks are great ! Well priced, Beautiful setting for dates, bday anniversary you name it –staff is friendly !! The only reason why I gave 4 stars over 5 and I know this may sound funny but it was a big turn off to see some waiters and bussers had on Jordan sneakers on ! It was super noticeable and noticed it more then once … As a manager and working in the restaurant industry that truly stands out a lot specially that this restaurant is very beautiful! Overall, amazing place well priced and most importantly the food was amazing and also had options for my Vegan in-laws !!!

Got to the bar and waited while the staff finished there discussion in the corner before I was served. Wait staff is rowdy. I ordered two drinks and an app for 30 bucks. Overpriced. Food was uninspired. Will not return

Amazing spot for lunch! I work in the area and often conduct business lunches at Above because the food is good, the environment is low key and the service is quick. I’ve always been a fan and will keep coming. DONOTHAVETHEMEATLOAF unless you have time for the best nap ever immediately afterwards! The chipotle burger is probably my favorite meal.

Met a friend here for drinks and snacks. Sat at the bar for awhile by myself while waiting for her. It was early happy hour on a weekday and people were just beginning to trickle in, a few diners, a few folks grabbing dinner at the bar – nice upscale relaxed scene with a view of the sushi bar right there in the dining room. The weather was nice and my friend and I sat on the patio, which has a view over downtown South Orange. Watch the NJ Transit trains coming and going through the statin below and be glad you’re sitting there having a drink instead :) I had the tasty salmon avocado tartar tower – a little pricy but not surprising for a fancy spot in SO. I will go back to try more stuff bc upscale New American cuisine is a different type of cuisine for the area.

Went to the movies in South Orange and wanted to grab a bite afterwards. Choices were quite limited, not because of a lack of restaurants in the area but because it was freezing. Walked up the stairs into what was a very visually appealing restaurant. Walked passed the tables and into the bar area, took a seat and ordered drinks and a couple of appetizers. Service was polite and prompt and the Mets game was on so I couldn’t have been happier. My Bloody Mary was delicious; just the right balance of sweet and tart, with small bits of horse radish floating around and olives perched precariously on top. Ordered the fried chicken meat balls and a sushi roll who’s name eludes me. I’m a total sucker for anything buffalo and the meat balls were no exception. Absolutely delicious, a novel take on the quintessential wings that I would absolutely order again. Sushi was fresh and delicious. The restaurant itself was also quite nice, with various rooms of tables, a sushi counter and a bar area. All were well staffed and visually appealing. Being a creature of habit, next time I’m in South Orange I will absolutely hit them up again. Really nice place with a twist on the ordinary. Very nice.

Hubby & I had the 1st of what will be many visits to Above on Sunday, 9÷20÷15! Bravo to our waiter, Joseph M. for making this a memorable experience! For starters — Carmelo’s famous stuffed meatball. Def enought for 2, trust me! Main course — Pan seared Chilean Sea Bass in a corn coulis sauce & hubby had suculiant pan seared pork chop, with mashed sweet potatoe & asparagus. For dessert we had Tiramisu & banana pudding. We look forward to visiting again in the very near future!

Came to try this place 7÷22÷15. Food was ok, but I think if I came back it would be for the outside seating area for the view. I ordered the fried calamari and French onion soup for an appetizer which was pretty good. The entrée however was not. I ordered the Chilean sea bass with corn, beans and veggies and it was terribly bland. The actual entrée looked good coming out bug I’ve definitively had better elsewhere. The wait staff was nice but the service could have been slightly better.

Three stars because I didn’t have the option of a 2.5. Don’t get me wrong, the ambiance and service was nice:) but I’m a foodie and that’s my bottom line when it comes to try reviews. The appetizers were great I had the garlic shrimp which were delicious’. Creamy garlic sauce with just the right amount of roasted garlic sliced to compliment the dish, not to mention the toasted Italian bread served with. Hubby had the Gravlax — Thin sliced salmon on toast points topped with dill crème fraîche, caper berries, red onion, and micro green salad which were very tasty:) For our main entrèe I had the lobster ravioli which were plentiful but the cream sauce was more of an alfredo sauce– too rich– drowned the raviolis begging for flavor. The ‘lobster’ filling was more like a pâtè of –I’m not sure what– thick, pasty, gummy of which flavor I can’t really put a finger on… I want to say, bologna or butterball turkey– nothing like lobster at all. the asparagus tips were lost in that creamy sauce. Hubby had the espresso strip– ordered«just slightly more than rare but not medium» which was served medium and sadly enough not tender. Beyond that, the flavor left much to be desired. The grilled asparagus was certainly perfect– they looked liked they were picked right out of the Amazon –very thick, but tasty none-the-less:) We passed on the dessert…

The food was excellent and the service was good but they were missing a lot of the seafood options n the menu. My boss ordered the seafood tower which is the most expensive item on the menu and they didn’t have any lobster, lump crab, or clams for it. They got an order of oysters and two orders of shrimp cocktail instead. I was really surprised because this restaurant is connected to a high end grocery store that when walking into the restaurant is packed with fresh seafood. I was not a fan of the duck wings. I tried them a few different ways because several people at the table ordered them. The spicy way did not work for me and neither did the sweet way. The fried calamari is good

Had a reservation for 5:30pm for two people today. Arrived at 5pm. There was no one at the hostess desk. So we walked back to the bar to ask to be seated. The waiters seemed to be bothered that we asked for assistance. This one skinny guy with blonde started to talk to us, but walked off! That’s rude. So another guy sat us down. We had a lovely, fun and helpful waiter named Larry. He has a funny laugh. Lol. He was so polite with ordering our beverages and food. We cracked jokes with him the entire afternoon. Lol. The food, omg, the appetizers are huge portions! We had five different apps. Lol. So much food. There were leftovers. Great ambience and overall good restaurant. Food menu is awesome. A lot to chose from. Food is yummmy. Alcoholic beverages are nice and strong.

Spoke with the management and they were very apologetic and I was there on collage night. They talked to me invited me back in and bought me a couple drinks the following week. Great spot in South Orange highly recommend for food and craft beer and good drinks. Also has an attentive staff and a caring management.

I’m not impressed with the food. I“m not impressed with the lackluster service. At their price point, it’s not acceptable for either to be sub par, let alone both. The service is as if they’re disinterested in your very presence in their restaurant. The food is very hit and miss. Unfortunately, some of the food simply isn’t good at all, while other food is good sometimes and just ok other times. I suppose consistently inconsistent is the phrase that suits it best. I’d rather take something out from the market downstairs. They’re overcharging too, but at least they acknowledge my presence in under 15 – 20 minutes.

Solid cuisine at this spot. All that you want from seafood to steak. The appetizers do not disappoint and the entrees are more than satisfying. While dining in the bar area is cooler than the formal dining, this place really stands out in the summertime when the outdoor patio areas are in full effect.
