I love this store!-iI you need something for your arts or crafts I am almost sure it will be here. It looks small from the outside but somehow they fit everything in here. And there is parking right outside.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Carmen in the framing dept. She was very professisonal and helped me re-​frame a frame I brought with me. She handled it on the spot and I did not have to leave it. I was so pleased with this kind of service as this was a gift to my new daughter in law and her mother who was leaving for Spain the next day. Also, I have dealt with Tee. She helped me with my pencil refills. She was patient, and took the time to make sure the refill would work in my mechanical pencil. Both these employees went over and above for me. I will alway go back.

All of the reviews on Unilocal are pretty accurate. I had a very bad experience in there recently. I am a loyal customer for many years and although I don’t like the lack of customer service, I was ok with it simply because I knew I could find the things that weren’t available in other craft stores. However, after this last trip I don’t know that I will return. I am writing it so the management will hopefully read it and get a clue. I was in there with both of my children who were behaving pretty decently as kids go. When in the paintbrush area, my son picked up a brush and marveled out loud at how nice it was. All of a sudden, some nutty customer began yelling at him and telling him he couldn’t touch anything. So when I asked her if she worked there, she claimed that she did. She wore no apron, no name tag, and carried a purse. We were all stunned at the manner in which she had spoken to us. So I left the area with my kids in tow, trying to avoid further altercation. I went up to the front counter and pointed the woman out, and asked her if she was an employee of the store. The cashier said that she was not. So then I asked for the manager. When I tried to speak to the manager, the woman again approached us and began yelling and calling us names (she was psycho). My kids began to cry. I explained to the manager that she was harassing us and impersonating Pearl employees. I wanted to stay and finish my shopping, but I was so upset that I could not. The manager offered to give me a discount on my purchases, but my kids and I were so upset that I couldn’t finish shopping. I wondered how the manager allowed the lady to stay in the store and drove us off, when it was so obvious by her foul language use and erratic behavior that SHE was the one that had to go? I am by no means one of those uppity moms who thinks her kids can do no wrong, but in this case they were not doing anything that would stir such hatred and anger. I don’t know what the manager was thinking, but I wished she would have asked her to leave the store. She could have handled things so differently and not lost one of her most loyal customers.

Pearl is a miami staple for any art enthusiast. Their selection is probably one of the best I have encountered. Their prices however, can be a bit steep at times, but it predominantly depends on what you are there to acquire. I shop oftern for jewelry making supplies, and i find some of their 24 – 28 gauge wires are priced most competitively when comparing them to other superstores such as Michael’s and Jo-​Anns. Their staff has been very kind and helpful every single time I have gone there. Ther greatest secret? They are one of the only places you can purchse LePen one of my favorite writing tools from college! They have them in a locked case, but it only takes a second to find a staff member who will graciously open it for you. Overall I have to say I always leave with a smile on my face when I go to this lovely establishment. PS teachers: if you show them your school ID, they will always give you an additional 10% off no matter what subject you teach! Happy Shopping

Yes, they have a huge selection of everything your little heart desires as far as crafts all the way up to professional paints, great canvas sizes, and extensive selection of colors, brushes, tools, etc…
I HAVE to give this only 3 stars though because some of the things were SO OLD. I don’t even mean the outside was dusty… I mean like the entire thing was dusty and it looked like half the stuff has been sitting there for 30 years. That is kind of disgusting. You know when you have the feeling like you don’t want to touch anything? You will definitely get that here. There is a smaller store near our apartment that we go to but we decided to visit Pearl since the one near us is closed on Sundays.
The only reason we’ll be back is if the art store near us is closed.

Like treasure hunts? Even if they result in bottle caps and aluminum cans versus diamonds and gold? Then you’ll enjoy digging through the piles of random miscellany stacking the shelves at Pearl.
The state of this store is pure chaos. Beads, for example, are on several different aisles, as well as several random display counters. No rhyme or reason, no organization. Patrons must wander and hope to stumble upon something special. In fact, it’s in such a disarray that I have to wonder if they’re on their way out of business.
The upside is, wandering begets creativity — at least for me. So an hour spent strolling the aisles is often time well spent.
So, while I’m not thrilled with their setup or management, the store still earns three stars. Why? Because I’m an art junkie, and any store that sells supplies is a-​ok in my book. At least there aren’t lines of people wrapped around the premise, like some craft stores I might mention …
And there’s ample parking, a rare find for an establishment on US 1.
So, if you enjoy the inception of original ideas, wander the aisles of this cluttered cacophony and make something magical.

Appear as though you need assistance, nobody notices. Ask for help, nobody has answers. Put your stuff down & walk out slowly, nobody calls you back. How does this place stay in business?

I hadn’t been to Pearl for over a decade, I guess, until recently when I starting crafting and needing supplies. After visiting Michael’s and Jo Ann Fabrics for anything from feathers to rhinestones to plaster and beyond, and finding an OK selection but a need for multiple trips and a preference for things on sale, I decided to go to Pearl. What I found was a wonderful selection for any number of art or craft projects, building or painting supplies, and odds and ends for the home. Besides the superior selection and range, the prices are comparatively lower than the places I’d been going though not by a terrible lot unless you consider how much you’ll be buying or how often you’ll be returning. Definitely worth the trip. Good service and helpful staff, just remember to ask if you need something and understand that if you’re not sure what you need, they may be able to help but not make a decision for you. It’s a great place to wander and see the scope of the merchandise. I’m sure you’ll be impressed and, for the serious artist or crafter, I’m not sure you’ll return to Michael’s so soon after.

I loooove this store!!! Whenever i get my muse going this is the place to go to stock up on serious art supplies (sorry michaels) here you find the best brands and variety to choose from. Its a dangerous zone for me to go as i get too happy and overspend here!!!

While Michaels is a good craft store, I walked in here and it was like reaching nirvana. Everything and anything you could possibly need while in your artsy mood is here… legitimate art stuff. I know there are probably some scrapbookers that would be let down in here due to a lack of stickers… but the paints, brushes, canvases, strange styrofoam shapes… I could spend hours in here. If I was really into making a train set or a diorama, this would be my first choice as well… there’s more little trees and scenery than I would know what to do with.
There is an odd area though… when you walk in, the first three aisle to the left are a little weird. It was as if they tried to be a little kitchy gift store back in the 80s and those three aisle are filled with things that just didn’t sell and lord knows if they ever will. Its kind of creepy over there… so just stay away from that section and go buy some sparkly glitter to add to the numerous choices of acrylic paint.

Ah… Pearl. Probably the first store I set foot in after coming to the University of Miami school of Architecture, many moons ago… and they are still here and still have all the goodies I need.
Journals, pens, Mylar and vellum. Easels, paints, brushes… all the paper you can imagine, including loose sheets (very important!).
The selection on custom pens has dwindled over the years and the art and craft section has expanded. Still there is the section for balsa wood, needed so many times to make these neat little models at 3 am in the morning.
Cashiers are still very friendly and just as slow, but that is what you get. If you can find an associate, they are very knowledgeable about what the store has and will guide you to it.
I like to see Pearl around for a lot longer. at least this way I do not have to stash up on journals and pens (they tend to dry out, after a while…) and not have this place follow the UM alternative supplier, Rex’s art, to shut down.
It is a new semester and there is drafting to be done!

I am not an artist … not even close, but I am fortunate to be in a household full of art, and artists, and my life is better because of art. So every time a member of my posse needs an art related item, we know where to go.
So far Pearl is batting 100% with me, I have yet to make the trip and not find what we are looking for, and I appreciate this because it is quite a hike for us, but it is always worth the trip.
Suffice you to know that Pearl is here and it fulfills our artistic needs, make the trek, it will probably be a good one.

I walked in and heard angels sing. George is right this is the Home Depot for arts. We only needed a sketch book, but in my excitement for all the art supplies that they had to offer plus the supplies for crafts I think I just went a tad overboard.
The only problem is that being Sunday night after the first week of school (and University) the students had pretty much cleaned out the place of the basics. We still did find what we came for and left happy with some pretty cool extras.

The Home Depot for the arts. This place has everything you could want if you wanted to start some type of art project. The staff is really friendly and will guide you around the store to get the supplies you need.
The price is a little steep but when you are starting from scratch that is to be expected. I’m sure that once you have the basics of what you need the hobby becomes a lot cheaper. They do give you a 10 percent discount if you have a student ID so that is pretty cool.

If you’re a serious amateur artist, you must come to Pearl’s, it is the preeminent art supply store in South Florida and has only one other location in SFL (Fort Lauderdale). Even if you’re a curiousity seeker or enjoy inhaling paints and pens, this place is nice to rummage through.
All the art school kids come here for their canvas, paint, framing, inks, brushes, etc. needs. I get my portfolio books here to showcase my work. I used to come to the Fort Lauderdale store to pick up specialty sakura gelly roll pens (oohh yea, teenage memories, did I just date myself? :D).
Arts & Crafters will like their selection of scrapbooks, glass vases, faux plants/​flowers, etc. This place kicks Michaels butts.
