U-Store

We are building a home in Brighton Mi, moving from South Lyon. I purchased the largest storage unit available from «U Store It» on Lottie st in South Lyon, at this time I signed a contract to pay $ 211.00 per month for a 30′ unit. The additional $ 1.00 was to receive a monthly statement and bill. I received all of my invoices on a timely basis for the first three months. No issues, until Feb when I did not receive a bill for my payment due Mar 1. On Mar 2^nd I receive an email past due with an additional $ 30.00 late fee due immediately. I received this email went online and paid my bill as soon as I got it. I have never paid a bill late in my life. I figured I must have deleted the invoice by accident, oops, I’ll pay the late fee my mistake. I contacted the office apologized and confirmed that they received my payment online. At this time I searched through my email to find the missing invoice and no such luck. I emailed the office asking for a receipt of my invoice with which they responded we have no record of sending it. I replied back contesting my late fee and at the very the least my $ 1.00 invoice fee «what a joke». They replied 8 days later with a flippant response of «it’s in the contract you signed ect…» they clearly made a mistake and did not uphold their end of the contract and in turn penalized me for paying 1 day late due to their mistake. In addition to lacking the common courtesy of the most basic customer service skills, I went to our unit last week to retrieve my 1 year old daughters high chair only to find it covered in mouses feces. I closed the door and haven’t been back since. I’m sure there is infestation in the unit of which I’ll have no recourse outside of my home owners insurance. To sum it up, if you’re storing anything of value in the South Lyon area please do not make the same mistake I did by going with the cheapest place you can find.
