Seems like they have already checked out. They don’t seem to care about their customers, in spite of their reputation as a well loved local establisment. We came in on a weekday afternoon to an empty dining room. Two families with 5 kids. They were rude, impatient and seemed unhappy about the kids invading their«restaurant». The kids were behaving fine, but the staff were so blatantly inhospitable. We came for root beer & hot dogs for lunch on a weekday! They were empty! Not happy to see us?! I think their retirement is long overdue, grumpy old curmudgeons!

Best root beer this side of the Mississippi! Fair prices and great hometown feel. The dogs and sliders are rarely beat!

Our waitress was so rude to us that we ate in silence, left immediately, and continued our conversation in the car in the parking lot. The food was mediocre and my friend got sick afterwords. Really hoping the waitress was just having a bad day and was not rude to us because my friend was homosexual.

I’ve been there twice now and the food is good with friendly service. My son(10) had the banana shake and wont stop talking about it. I had the bacon burger, they are small so I ate 2(waitress warned me they are slider size) the fries were excellent crinkle cut. Definitely a fan!

A family favorite of ours for years! Food is good, staff is friendly. With all of the depressing changes that have happened to our cute, country little town, Brown’s is the one place that remains the same!

I have to say that in the attempt to be a cool, old-fashioned soda shop, this hits the mark. The food? Meh… can take it or leave it. The chili cheese fries were a serious disappointment. But the Coney and salad were fine.

Brown’s has some wonderful food. I have always enjoyed eating there. However, I must give a it only a 2 star rating. I do not like being lied to by its staff. I asked them if their soup was homemade. I was told that it was made in house. Then when I asked why they had cans of Campbell’s soup in their kitchen that I had spotted earlier, they couldn’t give me an answer. So as far as I’m concerned, Brown’s is ripping its customers off by charging too much for plain old Campbell’s tomato soup,

I’m giving it 5 stars for what it is, cheap greasy food and great root beer. You cant just have one slider you have to have at least two and of course a side of the crinkle fries. The sliders are good, on the level of Bates. Greasy and 20 minutes later you regret eating that much grease in one sitting. The root beer was great. The frosted mug is a nice touch. A staple in South Lyon and will for sure be returning.

Brown’s is an Institution in South Lyon. If you haven’t been here, you can NOT say you have been to South Lyon. Period. I had to move, but I was 5th generation in SL, and I know what I’m talking about. They have THEBEST Chili Fries in recorded history as well.

Brown’s has great coney dogs, and even better root beer. It’s a small place that really gives you that homey, small town feel every time you come in. The owners are friendly, and the root beer. get the frosty mug, it makes it that much better. I give it 4 stars only because the coney’s are a little small for the price.

Thank goodness I’ve finally found someone who has not forgotten the long lost art of the crinkle fry! Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and sturdy enough to hold up to a whopping dollop of ketchup. OK, so I’m sure they’re pre-packaged and frozen, but they’re still good! The sliders at Brown’s are exactly what you’d expect: greasy, relentless on the gut, and oh so delicious. The root beer is really good… and that’s coming from someone who does not generally enjoy root beer. But I must warn you to pace yourself, because refills are not free. Definitely worth stopping in!

Charming, nostalgic place! Kid friendly menu. Sliders were not anything close to like a Bates burger. They do offer footlong coneys, homemade root beer, shakes, etc. Quick service, would return.

Burgers are good(for sliders), and it is fun to come in the summer, but the staff is just not very friendly with our family. I hate to say it, because we have experienced ZERO issues anywhere else in town, but I think the gay is not okay here. They seem to be friendly enough with other customers, but we felt very… ignored? Barely tolerated?. Disappointed that I don’t feel welcome to come here with my wife and our little one.

I’ll probably get razed for this review. I was excited when moving into South Lyon to see a fun, local, popular little restaurant. How could it be bad, when everyone seems to like it? The first time we came here, I got a burger and my wife got some chicken tenders and fries. The fries were dry and tasted like they just took them out of the freezer. The burger was OK. The chicken tenders weren’t even as good as something from McDonalds. We were really disappointed, but wanted to give it another chance. The next time, we just went through and got a root beer float and a cream puff. I was utterly disappointed. $ 4 for a medium float that tasted and looked like the types they give away at fundraisers. And $ 3 for a small cream puff that tasted like a thawed freezer remnant that was slapped with some jarred fudge. I’d rather go to A&W for the root beer and Mickey’s for the ice cream/dessert. So disappointing, but I guess our seats will happily be taken up by other locals that come here for nostalgic reasons? I really wanted this to be «our place», but now we avoid it.

Cute décor, standard diner menu and hangout for the locals. Great for a quick bite, or to sit and visit with your friends. I stopped by and had the day’s special: coney dog & fries, cole slaw & lemonade. Got out of there real cheap! Like only about five bucks for my meal. You can order carry-out, or sit down at a table and one of the waiters will come to you. The owner is real nice. At least I think he was the owner.

Small and locally owned. Charming old time ambience. Their burgers and inexpensive. You can easily eat for $ 5 per person. Great root beer floats too.

This is the place for the bestest, footlong hotdog in the world! Also, great chili fries and good burgers! If you in the area, not a place to pass up! Good Food at a Great price, with very friendly service! Something that is not normal, in our current time and life style! Better than the current day, fast food A & W!!! Give it a try! You be glad that you did!

As I always say, small and locally owned, my favorite! They have a cool little pedal car hanging from the ceiling that my daughter is dying to ride in. She asks Mr. Brown every time we go. Sandwiches and coneys are excellent. The waitresses remember you by name and your regular order if you eat there as much as my daughter does. I love the homemade root beer and the cozy welcoming atmosphere!

Brown’s is a South Lyon institution. I might as well review my youth as try and review this wonderful sandwich shop. Little known fact #1: Going out to Brown’s is the first memory I have of being taken out to eat by my parents. I must have been three or four years old. And I remember really liking the fries. Little known fact # 2: Despite the fact that Brown’s is possibly most famous for it’s coney dogs, I had never had one till yesterday. That should tell you something– I love Brown’s burgers and corned beef sandwiches. It was a struggle to order a footlong. I soooooo wanted a burger. But your faithful reviewer did indeed get a footlong – in order to be better able to advise you, my dear fellow Unilocalers. For the record, the footlong was very good. As were the chili fries and the root beer. The food is never an issue at Brown’s. It is great without fail. My favorite is the quarter pound bacon burger. My friend Emily highly recommends the Boston Cooler. Everybody loves the chili fries. The service is just as outstanding. Mr. Brown is usually on hand. He is the definition of hospitable and friendly. For what you get, and at the low price, Brown’s is more than a steal. It is a treasure. Come check it out.
