Don’t ever use this place! The office help and the thugs that do the install are rude, rude, rude. They canceled me last minute and put us off for a week. I was told they would start at 8:00 a.m. They came at 10:30. I had a litter of new born pups and it was snowing and windy where the pups were… right where they were working. I asked them to close the door when they went out the back door to their truck. They never did. They just kept doing it so I had to keep going in the garage and closing it. We are waiting for the final bill and were called to get a few items for the final inspection. It has been 2 weeks since they were done. The office girl called and demanded to close it out since it had been a month. If you want to head but a disjointed company… call them!

After buying our house we needed to re route some plumbing off our water heater Nixon’s come out and did a job so neat and clean and re-​routed some plumbing so it would be out of the way. Nice Clean job, and totally cleaned up after the work was done!
I had a new water pressure tank installed through the well company over this summer, the pressure tank failed, (they the well company replaced it took them 5 days to figure it all out and replace the tank) well the pressure tank failed again… Nixon’s came out looked at the tank and the next day it was replaced in under a hour! And I did not have to clean up any mess! It was done right with professionalism.
Im very pleased!
I will be calling Nixon’s for every plumbing, heating or air-​conditioning need that may arise!

Nixon came out to give me a estimate today for a water heater an furnace today. called 5 other company’s in about lake, they were the only company to show up or return my call very professional, knowledgeable and nice. hopefully looking forward to working with them.

Love these guys. Affordable and fast. They are able to fix the things other companies have scratched their heads at. Jason (?) came out to our gym (Elevated Fitness) and fixed a thermostat another company couldn’t even figure out, and we weren’t price gouged. We have them on a regular maintenance contract now.

assessed my problems, gave me options and did the work quickly and flawlessly…

If you are looking for someone to do sham work and not guarantee it, set you up for failure so that you can call them to fix the problem again and have them insult you and argue — look no further! Nixon’s is your go to!
I unfortunately went with the higher Unilocal review on a local plumbing place, used Nixon’s and am paying for it dearly. But I will leave a Unilocal review anyway even though I am skeptical of how useful Unilocal reviews are.
True, they did set up a pipe hookup in the yard to connect to an irrigation system that was being installed by a separate company. However, forgot to show the tenants and myself (who were all present that day) where the shut-​off valve was. So no big surprise, winter came and in Nov, the pipe busted because the tenants shut off a different valve downstream where they could see one, not realizing they needed to go looking under a stair step to shut the proper one off. So, I called Nixon’s and the tech showed us the problem and what SHOULD have been done and since it was winter, he recommended to have the pipe re-​evaluated and fixed in the spring. Now that spring is here, called to set up an appointment, but mentioned that we had previously discussed this issue with a manager who gave us an estimate for parts and labor ($ 300), and that he would make a note that they would cover half the cost for the miscommunication. No problem with that — except when I called, not only was I told it wasn’t their problem, but there wasn’t going to be anything covered on their end except for half of the first hour of labor ($ 54) and that it wasn’t their fault for my tenants IQ (and coming from who I was talking to, I don’t think that person had any right to make that judgement) and that I was more than welcome to try another company.
Given how quickly Doug (the owner) got defensive and denied any responsibility, did not guarantee his work, and was so quick to FIRE me when I was only trying to explain why it WAS partially his and the techs responsibility for the pipe bursting, I am not surprised by the other poor reviews and I am not the only person who thinks this business lacks integrity.
So I will be going to another local business and Nixon’s will not even get half of my business to fix their problem that they created. And found out there was another issue in the house that was previously fixed by them before I bought the house, and 1.5yr later, had to be fixed again with the same part which will likely break in another 1.5 years. Job security anyone?

This company was unfortunately recommended to me and I had used them in the past. Recently last year we used Nixon again to install a line to have an irrigation system put in the front and back yard. Initially Nixon was pretty good with communication, work quality was just ok in every experience we had.
So, Nixon installs the line to hook up an irrigation system. There is a valve they installed as a secondary shut off to be used during the winter when sprinklers are not in use. Well, apparently Nixon forgot to mention the secondary shut off. Come November, our new sprinkler system has a line bust. Nixon came out and shut off the valve and stated they would cover half the cost for the replacement when spring arrives.
Now it is spring. When I had spoke to the manager in November he stated he had notated the account and when I call back in the spring everything will be noted and available. Upon calling they apparently have no notation of the discussion, and are only willing to cover half of one hour of labor totaling $ 50. This is just unacceptable. The owner stated the sprinkler company should be responsible for repairing the damaged line, however I disagree. The sprinkler company demonstrated how to shut off the line they installed. Nixon failed to show us the shut off valve they installed. Oh, I forgot to mention, they installed the shut off valve under one of the stairs leading up to a deck, meaning we have to remove a step to shut the valve off. Doug was more concerned with arguing on the phone and taking no accountability.
Never Again. Apparently integrity within this company is an issue judging from some of the other reviews below.
Apparently according to Doug, we should have rented out to tenants with a higher IQ. Doug was also very quick to tell us to go find a new plumber. Great experience Doug and great attitude. Good thing you only do light blue collar work and are not entrusted with something dangerous.

Called with a heater emergency. The friendly lady answering the phone was able to get Jason there within the hour to look at our heater. It turned out to be a simple fix. Jason showed us how to resolve it next time ourselves. AND didn’t charge us for his visit! We’ll be back for our next HVAC/​plumbing needs!

My heater went out at our house in Tahoe over Christmas week (Sunday). Called a few «24 hour» service providers, none responded. I waited until Monday and called Nixon’s. Very prompted and courteous. Jason (the owners son) showed up when promised and had the unit back up running after replacing the gas valve. I totally gutted and remodeled our Tahoe house in 2011 (minus the furnace) and «prompt and courteous» are not how I would describe contractors in Tahoe. You have to be on «Tahoe Time» and pack your patience. I tried to use them for my plumbing needs during the remodel (due to high recommendations) and was told they were too busy. I really appreciated the honesty, rather than taking on the work and not performing. I will most likely use them to replace my furnace this summer. Great to work with.

Took awhile to get the deal together but when it came together it was done professionally and we were pleased.

Tara T must have great connections there in order for them to honor a time window. I made an appointment on Monday for someone to fix my thermostat on Thursday morning. After 11am still no show and no call so I called the office to get an ETA. (I have stuff to do).
Person on the phone said that they don’t ever make appointments before the day of (news to me since I did 3 days prior with someone else in their office) and that I should wait for a call which would come 15 minutes before someone showed up. She continued, after me being on hold for a minute or two, that the driver was estimating between 3 – 4:00. I wasn’t happy but said fine.
It is now 4:45 and still no show and no calls.
I’m not a big fan of the old cable company policies of making people waste entire days for a very short appointment. Even cable companies haven’t been doing it for a decade. No other company should.
I’m still hopeful that they show up today and do a good job. If so then I will revisit my review which is currently a generous 1 star.

I called nixons plumbing today at 2:30, they answer’d the phone write away, my sink wasn’t draining, I called two company’s before no return call, then I was told they can be here in 10 min, they were here exactly in ten, Matt was great and was very careful in my house, we’re glad we checked Unilocal,call them for your plumbing needs I’m glad I did, check the pic no mess

Five stars for Nixon. After having an unpleasant experience with a different SLT plumber, Nixon’s was refreshing.
They scheduled a house call right away. Jimmy came and fixed it, no muss, no fuss in less than two hours. He was a pro, prompt, and a pleasant individual.
I crossed off all the other plumbers on our household list and put Nixon’s number in.

Don’t bother calling anyone else. For anything.
First of all… who charges to bid on a pipe replacement job? Not Nixon’s, but apparently everyone else. Our 1933 cabin near Twin Bridges had a number of broken pipe issues underneath we had been patching with hose and clamps which would only last for a little while. The assumption was that this would be a job to cost thousands as part of the wall would have to be removed, and the pipe is no longer available in 3/​8″ size to replace it. Low and behold, it was a 3 figure job, finished in 3 hours, with a seriously nice young man who did his darndest to put the wall back exactly as he found it with as little issue as possible.
That other big company that starts with a ‘C’ (cough cough, Clarks’ cough) told me if I didn’t want to pay for the bid (at $ 125) that I should «ask my neighbors for a local handyman.» I don’t have f***ing neighbors… it’s a cabin on the side of the mountain almost by itself.
Moral of the story. Call Nixon’s. Amazingly. Awesome. Affordable (and I am cheap as s*** too).

Nixon’s recently fixed by electric water heater. They provided great service including excellent communication from the office and the technician. I’d definitely use them again.

Tim Nixon is one of the most reliable vendors I have ever worked with. He has never let me down. I own a vacation rental in SLT and need strong reliable vendors to assist with issues on short notice. Tim has always been there. I strongly recommend him. Definitely one of the good guys.

We called Nixon’s because we our water heater was not working properly, at the beginning they were responsive and seemed helpful. However, when we were told that we needed to heat our garage — insulate it and run a vent to it and then the water heater would work we started to question the abilties of the technition that came out. After talking with the water heater company we found out it was a bad computer board that needed to be replaced. Nixon’s said yes they can do it and would send out a plumber with experience with our water heater, but what a horrible experience! They requested that we send them all the info. we had and were fully aware that we were using our homeowners warranty but at the 11^th hour they refused to work with the home warranty company. Why didn’t they just be honest about that up front? After much back and fourth qne wasting about a month of time (mean while we have no hot water) we decided to move on to another company. No integrity.

I don’t normally write reviews but have recently started doing it when I find something exceptional. I’m in mid-​job with Nixon’s on the installation and configuration of a new heater and humidification system. While I’ve not used any of the other local competitors, without reservation I’d recommend Nixon’s. Here’s my reasons:
1. Prompt and Professional Staff — Over the time working with them, they pick up the phone, do what they say they’re going to do, and are polite and professional.
2. VERY high quality work — I do a lot of construction on the side in my homes. Mostly, I re-​do shoddy work that others have done so I know bad workmanship and cheap materials. The particular installation had a lot of unforseen problems once we pulled out the old system. I watched as they made the quality decisions that actually took them longer to do but were the right ones.
3. Experience and permanancy — The install (Matt) has been with Doug Nixon for 6 years + and is happy and competant. I had some very techical discussions with him on electronics, wiring, humidity, air velocity, etc… He’s very good.
4. Reputation and Integrity — The job took significantly longer than was in the bid. Also, we determined that more equipment would be needed to finish it. I spoke directly with Doug and he was more concerned about the quality of the work, getting the job done, and insuring I was a happy customer than talking about the possibility of gettting a bit more money for the job.
I’ve already paid them in full and have high confidence in them. High recommendation from me.

Nixon’s is some of the most costly game in town, but they are by far the best.
When you call to get something fixed (like a heater /​thermostat that for some insane reason has just decided to stop putting out heat in the middle of January) they’re prompt in returning your call to the emergency line.
They show up when they say they will, instead of giving you a three hour+ window like a lot of other companies.
They do it right the first time. Nixon installed a new double sided wall heater and water heater in our (very, very) old house. The only problem we’ve had was due to our being dumb, not their work :)
