Lake Tahoe Vacation Guide

We were extremely disappointed with this rental property company. The cabin was nice. The Management company, however, is a disaster. The neighbors in the Keys, that are owners, are extremely paranoid and obnoxious about complaining regarding perceived rule violations. We rented a 5 bedroom property and had a few families… because of a claim of noise and that there were rocks on the frozen lake that weren’t there the night before, (which supposedly meant our kids must have thrown them)… we had someone show up and try to take a «head count» on the number of people we had in there. About an hour later management showed up with police to give us 2 hrs to pack up and get evicted. It was so traumatizing for the kids and absolutely ridiculous as we had done nothing wrong. Even the police said they would not site us for anything because we had not broken any south Lake Tahoe rental rules regarding occupancy, and advised us to complain and fight the eviction. So, in the middle of cooking dinner, we had to send some to talk to management and settle the dispute, rather than having us all pack up and drive the 6 – 10 hrs home at 8pm from Tahoe. We have never experienced such absurdity. The management company does not know how to handle neighbors complaints. Literally if there is a noise complaint they can try to evict you. And they will keep your security deposit for almost any reason. If you have kids this is not a kid friendly area, for sure. It really is worth your while to look into another agency that has a better control on the HOA regulations or are in a more rent friendly region.

Worst customer service I have experienced!
The rentals and the price are OK, but their office fails to deliver their promises, and make no efforts to resolve issues, caused by inexperience, over-​promising staff!

The staff at Lake Tahoe Vacations Guide are friendly, fast, efficient. I would give them 4 stars. However, this one rental we had was not up to my expectations and left me feeling dissatisfied for the money we paid to stay there.
The Good:

The rental was an good place, nothing spectacular to knock your socks off. The kitchen was the biggest part of the house and was fully stocked with everything. The living room room was small. The deck outside was one of the largest and had BBQ and patio tables for lounging and eating. Wifi was available and fast. The general cleanliness of the place was very good too.
Place came with a fooseball table that we enjoyed using and a large library of VHS and DVD videos to pop into main living room and bedrooms.
Master bedroom was a good size.

The driveway to the house does not have a smooth entry. I have a sports car with low ground clearance. I could not drive my car up the driveway without severely scratching the underside. This forced me to park in the court where I exposed my car to getting hit by neighbors coming out of their driveways. They need to put in a rubber driveway mat to remedy this.
No air conditioning in the house. It got very warm, even at nights. We were forced to crack open the windows which also let in the noise of the nearby coyotes howling all through the night.
The three bedrooms were small and felt cramped. Felt like 10×10 rooms at best.
Tahoe Keys due to the drought has a low water level. So it was disappointing that I couldn’t go out and do any meaningful fishing on the deck. Throughout our stay, they had dredging machines making passes up and down our key channel and people cleaning up the algae in the morning. In all honesty, they shouldn’t have asked premium price based on this.
We had neighbors talking loud at 2AM-​3AM on all three nights. It was really annoying and sucked big time to the point where it was difficult to get sleep.
The boat dock for our place was being used by someone down the street. Each morning, the boat owners would illegally trespass into our backyard, go out to sail and then come back onto the property to exit. This did not make our stay feel private, safe, nor comfortable seeing this happen everyday.
Maid service didn’t have enough towels for each person and for each night we stayed.

Based on this, our stay deserves 2 ½ stars. We’ve used this property management company several times in the past and stayed at other locations in Tahoe Keys that were way better than this. For the price we paid for three nights, this definitely was not worth it.

2945 Pinewood= The most unpleasant vacation
We have been renting vacation houses in Tahoe from this place a few times. The sales people are very nice and try really hard to find what you are looking for. Unfortunately, if there is a problem, you’ll have to spend lots and lots of time on the phone with the management office to get anywhere. Our last rental experience was just horrible. We asked for a «No Pet» house since we had some one with severe asthma in our group. To our surprise there was pet hair everywhere in this house, in the kitchen, on the chairs, on the bedding and on the carpet.
We got pet hair on everything we had with us. They did send someone to clean the kitchen mat, however there was so much pet hair on the carpet that in an hour it was the same as before. We asked them for a refund and they offered a very small discount, after arguing over the phone for almost an hour, they offered 15% discount, which is nothing compared to what they put us through. They claimed someone must have sneaked in a pet. However, now that I am reading the reviews for the property, the management allowed someone to stay there with pet!
This is so frustrating. We feel cheated.
Not sure I can trust them for future rentals.
In addition to pet hair, the property was filthy overall, with pest problems. It is everything needed to ruin your vacation.

I rented the 3344 Woodland road property in February. I must admit, after reading the reviews of the management, I was extremely wary considering we had quite a large group for a 30^th birthday party.
My experience was actually wonderful. I worked mostly with Greta and she was very accommodating and responsive. The only few peeves was that when we checked in we were told inspection was not made on the house yet, but it was cleaned and the hot tub cleaning had not been done. These should all be complete before check in is available. Anyway, we opted to waive the inspection and I called to report every little thing that looked damaged — which wasn’t much. The house was beautiful and extremely spacious.
I got the full deposit back in 5 weeks — which I was thrilled to see. I think as long as you are respectful, cleanup after yourself and the neighbors don’t end up hating you, you’ll get your deposit back.
I will definitely be renting the property in the future.

3519 Rocky Point Road is a cozy place to stay while in Lake Tahoe. The house is decorated to feel like you are in a cabin.
Many bears throughout the property makes it fun for the whole family.
Located 1 mile from Harrahs Casino and 1 mile down from Heavenly Valley Skiing.
The back of the house faces National Forrest so the private hot tub is really private.
This property is some what dated but is kept clean by a very thorough housekeeping crew.
Some of the amenities include a wood burning fire place, two decks, wi fi, cable tv, and a separate down stairs suite.
It is only a rental during ski season so make sure you get your reservation in early.

We rented two nights and it was extremely terrible the home 490 ledo was extremely dirty with dog hair and flees every where we called the office they sent somebody to work on it during our stay and still it was dirty with dog hai and flees neve gone. We end up by staying one night in Harvey’s and the other night out .The management was not helpful and we don not recommend this place to anyone before they complete ly clean it out.

Seriously, this place deserves 0 stars.
I rented 947 Colusa for my 24^th birthday this past January. The cabin itself was great, I have no real complaints about it (besides the WiFi not working, and they didn’t even try to help us figure it out). The customer service, like mentioned in other reviews, is terrible.
We got noise complaints from neighbors the first night we were there. The next day, someone came by to check if we had the appropriate amount of people staying in the cabin (which we did). The person said that they would charge $ 500 as a security deposit, just in case we get in trouble again. The rest of the weekend, we made sure to keep the noise level down so that I would be able to get my deposit back.
When it came to checkout, the worker was already acting shady and made ME call the sheriff department to see if we got a point on the property from our excess noise. I made sure to call them before we trekked our way back to San Jose, and they said they didn’t have any noise complaints regarding the cabin we stayed in. Well, that’s pretty obvious considering that no sheriff even came by to tell us that we were being too noisy. They also said that the resort should be calling them and not me. I went back into the office and told the girl, and she said we should get a refund back in 6 – 8 weeks. Seriously? Why should a refund take that long in the first place?
A few weeks later, my parents are upset that they haven’t gotten a refund back, so they call up the office to see what is going on. Apparently, they had NO plans to give us our refund and said that we violated the contract by making too much noise during late hours. I doubt they even called the sheriff department to see if we got a point, they probably just made some bull sh*t excuse to take the deposit.
Do not rent from here. There are plenty of other resorts that are probably much cheaper and won’t scam you.

1893 Venice Drive.
Incredibly disappointed with our rental from this company. Would not rent here again. Although we were super lucky to get a last minute «pet friendly» house in Tahoe for New years Eve, we were waaaaaaaaay over charged for this run down house.
Where to start… charged us super inflated rates for NYE, broken fooz-​ball table taking up all the space in front of the fireplace, TVs in all rooms were probably from the 80s and cable did not work entire stay, beds are SUPER OLD, broken down and I had an itchy rash after our stay, the bed sheets were so old they are about to disintegrate, no coffee grinder, ancient appliances, water to washing machine was leaking so we had to turn the pipes off all togher until we needed it, couch cushions were torn up… for $ 500 a night this house is absolutely robbing it’s guests.

After looking at a ton of cabin rental websites, I’m glad I stuck with Tahoe Keys Resort. The agents were all very friendly and helpful, and I’d probably use them again for future vacation trips. They were flexible with payments (1 card with 50% of the payments, and the rest could be split up by different credit cards, by which the payer/​s would simply call in and give their information to the agents for the transaction). I put a $ 100 down to hold the cabin, and had 24 hours for a full refund.
1696 Crystal Air was a great cabin, it was 3 stories, and could fit a large group of people (I beleive they mention 11 – 14 people, but it could definitely fit more if everyone was OK with being a little cozy). The kitchen had a bunch of dishes, spices, a coffee maker, a new oven/​electric stove, and was beside a breakfast nook/​table with 2 benches. There’s a den upstairs with an L couch and a TV, and a downstairs basement with a large area and a futon, with a working computer. In the basement there’s a large room with 2 bunk beds (a full on bottom, twin on top) that can sleep 6. There’s also a mild wireless signal in the upper floors of the house. Parking can fit at least 3 cars, and there’s also a patio outside with woden benches and a table.

We rented the 1165 Prospector home bc of the huge game room it had. Included: pool table, foosball table, air hockey table & a big screen but we were disappointed that some of the equipment was in poor working condition… the rental company told us they would look into having it repaired to working condition when we checked out. As far as everything else in the home, there were plenty of utensils, cookware & the home itself was really nice & spacious.

Everytime I go to Tahoe I rent a cabin/​house through this company. They have a great selection of luxurious houses that are fairly inexpensive and nearby all of the best attractions. The staff is always very polite and super helpful. We are always 100% satifsfied with the houses we stay in and how easy they make it for us to place a reservation. Every house we have booked was awesome so here are some of the best units:

I’m kinda surprised at the reviews here on Unilocal.I’ve had a pretty good experience here in South Lake Tahoe, and have received pretty top notch customer service.
Consequently I have stayed at two locations: 1901 Koyukon and 936 Glorene Avenue. The first being last year in October, and the latter earlier this month. Both times we had no troubles getting our keys, checking in or checking out. Both properties were very clean, and everyone who stayed with us had great things to say about how great the stay was. Both cabins had relatively large living rooms, with hot tubs and pool tables.
Do yourself a favor and try to rent at least 3 months prior to your stay. It’ll be cheaper, and check the rates during certain times of the year. Also call ahead and check with them and see what discounts they offer. I inquired about a discount, and had them e-​mail me the revised price. It was a good deal, and I was definitely happy overall.
If you’re confused, just look at their FAQ section, and it really helps to answer any and all relative information you require.
All in all, I think I’ll be coming back twice a year to this company to enjoy weekends out of the city. I will say that if you go in larger groups, the overall cost becomes much lower, and the stay is infinitely more intimate and fun. Highly recommended.
p. s. minus one star, because although it’s not super expensive, it’s definitely not a monthly affair you could afford.

Whenever we take our dogs with us to Tahoe, we rent a house or condo through this company. The accommodations depend on the place you rent, but we’ve never had a terrible experience (some are a lot nicer than others though).
This weekend we rented 2945 Pinewood Drive. Arriving at around 11:30pm, we got the keys and directions to the house and were in the door before midnight.
The next day we had to return to actually check in. The process didn’t take long and we were out of there and on our way in less than 10 minutes.
Checking out, we got a late check out time (12 noon) and just had to make sure the trash was taken out and dishes were in the dishwasher (to be turned on before we left).
Our house for the weekend was a 3 bedroom/​2 bath with a pretty good sized living room, dining room, and decent sized kitchen. It’s definitely dated, but it’s clean. It’s not the best kitchen if you plan to cook a lot because it’s an electric stovetop and three out of the four burners are tiny.
Good place to rent from especially if you have dogs, just do your research on each individual house/​condo beforehand so you know what you’re getting.

2460 LUPINE TRAIL IS AWESOME! The cabin holds 15 people comfortably. 6 bedrooms/​4 bathrooms! There is a master suite that has a fireplace back-​to-​back with the master bathroom’s jacuzzi. There is a «man-​cave» with a big screen TV, a pool table and a couple of pinball machines! The kitchen is huge and has a island. Plenty of glasses, plates and cooking utensils. There are 2 large balconies and 1 large outdoor jacuzzi. About 3 miles from Stateline and the casinos… about the same to Heavenly. Would rent this place again, no problem… Yes, I had a great time… Thanks for asking! Take a look:

ZERO STARS if I could. PLEASE STAY AWAY from this place!!! The Agency is seriously lacking in customer service. Very stingy on the cleaning service and supplies, etc. Their linen policy? One scratchy white towel per bed. Nothing else in the house. No dish towels to use in place of an oven mitt/​hot pad to take hot items off the stove. I had to use my 1 rationed towel in the kitchen and share my daughters towel for bathing!
Don’t EVER stay at 1893 Venice. The house was awful. Plumbing issues in the middle of the night, nauseating sewage smell whenever the heat was on (unfortunately sort of necessary during the winter?!), no supplies (not even dish soap!), the beds are really in bad shape (caving in, broken springs, one goes vertical/​diagonal if you put any weight on it whatsoever), my daughter’s bed didn’t have a matress pad or fitted sheet, only a doubled up flat sheet posing as protection between the funky mattress and human skin.
Don’t bother trying to complain to the rental agency… They don’t care at all. They totally overcharge (almost 800/​nite for a craphole!) and as long as they get the money, they don’t care what your experience is. When we called about the horrible smell, they didn’t care where it was coming from, just sent someone over with a can of carpet spray/​deoderizer??? Thanks, but that didn’t help the stench coming from the heating vents. When we looked in the vents, there was water sitting in them, who knows how long it had been there? This might expain why most of us felt ill while we were there. Mold allergy, anyone?
It is clear from the state of the house that the owners don’t care about the house. Old broken furniture aside, the place has a lot of cheap band-​aids on it and is not very well designed. We are normally not super picky when choosing a place, we’ve been happy with all of the family houses we’ve rented over the years… This place was just awful. We left there feeling irritable, cranky, sick, and EXHAUSTED!
Definitely not the fun, relaxing family reunion we normally have. A completely opposite experience than the one that is described in their mission statement. I can’t remember the exact words, but something about «wanting your stay to be more than just a vacation» and «if there is anything we can do to make your stay even more enjoyable, don’t hesitate to let us know.»
Right.

We gone through this resort to rent our place for 3 day weekend of snowboarding ride at Lake Tahoe and if you do some homework, they will give out discount. so remember to ask ‘is there any special promo?’
I am very happy with our stay and the 2 story was quite roomie and fitted a group of 10+ easily.
I recommend any future booking to check them out… We were very trilled!

Worst customer service ever.
The house was a bit on the shabby side. There were not sufficient dishes to cook a full meal without doing it in shifts.
It was the worst shower I’ve used in my life — took me 10 minutes to wash the shampoo out of my hair. It wasn’t even a stream, it was more like a mist. It beats the purpose of a «water saving» shower head if you have to stay in there a half hour, but I don’t even think that’s what they had intended.
There were cigarette butts all over the patio after the snow melted.
There is more… but I mostly wrote this review to highlight their poor customer service.
I left something VERY IMPORTANT and sentimental to me in the house.
We called them about an hour after checking out, and they said «no problem, we’ll head over to the house to go look for it».
We called back every day and no word, until 5 days later, when they said they hadn’t looked for it — hadn’t given the cleaning service a ‘heads up’, or anything.
People were already staying in the house!
We had to tell them to call the maids and the house and ask the new occupants if they’d found it.
By that time, it was too late — it was inevitably stolen or thrown away. Something of little to no value to anyone else except me.
And they were inconsiderate enough to say they were «busy»… um, but hello, I think the definition of «customer service» is to serve customers as best you can.
We’re not booking with them again!

Rentals.
We all have used one or another version of a rental at one point, I’m just not sure how a vacation rental continues to get poor reviews and nothing is corrected by the establishment. Is this a sign of things to come in the vacation industry? All things aside, appearances on the outside aren’t always what they are on the inside. Beautiful scenery abounds in Tahoe — granted, recreation in the great outdoors is typically what people head to Tahoe for. It is worth heading here.
That being said, the reviews for this establishment need to be addressed by the management company. I didn’t have a crappy experience as other travelers have, but maintenance seems to be accomplished by the individual owners, yet the management company attempts to keep customers pleased as best they can. Wall-​outlets that aren’t «live» (I’ll bring my tool box next time), no porchlight for climbing stairs, and the ever pleasant & shocking ice-​cold shower while operating the toilet all added for a «memorable» trip. But hey, it’s Tahoe and worth an 8 hour drive from LA, right? More on that at a later time.
I’ll give Tahoe Keys Resort thumbs up for 2 features: 1) the gym; 2) the well-​camouflaged water-​recycle /​filtration system. The gym is finely maintained. Clean equipment; not crowded; 2 trainers named as local trainers of the year. Exercise bikes, free wts, step-​machines, spin classes, 2-​walls of windows, a mirror wall, locker rooms & showers. Note: access is either from being a guest of or a resident of Tahoe Keys Resort. The water-​recycle /​filtration system is hidden from view by trees, and is an incredibly efficient system which keeps this end of Tahoe Lake clean and vibrant.

I’ve rented vacation homes from these guys twice and I have to say that as property management goes, they were very nice, responsive and their properties were clean. I’d use them again in the future. I was especially happy with a place that we rented one winter that was close to Heavenly. It was very 70’s in décor but clean and a great place to huddle up with all your friends for a weekend getaway.
And now for the: «Ohhh no… she’s done fallen off her rocker again» part of the review that I hesitated to write.
The last time I was up there we stayed in the South Tahoe Keys area (2172 Balboa to be exact.)
And I’ll be damn’ed if that place wasn’t haunted. Yes… boo! From all accounts it was a nice ghost. But needless to say I worked my panties into a very tight bunch and couldn’t sleep our second night there.
The only reason I am even writing this is because as soon as I got home, I searched online for stories of the like to help validate the fact that I may have fallen off my rocker a few times, but I ain’t no looney! (sigh) And of course — there was absolutely nothing about this place online. No, not even on Google. (Hmm… maybe the new Microsoft live search has something — NOOOOOT! ha ha! ahem. sorry, search engine humor)
Crazy I know… why wouldn’t people want to share such initmate encounters with other worldly spirits? ;) I’ll go first and hope that someone out there will validate my, my… oh OK go ahead and laugh now. But you’ve been warned.
And all the creepiness aside, the crew at Tahoe Keys Resort are nice to work with!
