Our wedding night would not have been as amazing as it was without Derek. Derek kept the entire wedding running smoothly all night. He helped guide us through the nights activities as well as kept everyone on the dance floor all night. He knows how to keep the night exciting and romantic. We would 100% recommend using Lake DJ for whatever your event may be. You will not be disappointed.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Edgewood on June 16, 2015. It was a destination wedding, which meant a lot of planning took place over the phone and via email.
Derek was the most professional and experienced person that we worked with for our wedding. He ensured that we had everything in order, and confirmed on the day of the event all of our decisions. He kept the ceremony and reception running smoothly.
We had a small wedding of 50 guests, and Derek kept the dance floor packed. It was amazing.
We also had a DJ for a second reception that we held closer to home, where we had a larger crowd. It was interesting to compare multiple DJs given similar instructions. Derek was head and shoulders above our other DJ (who also did a good job!). The transitions between songs were seamless and impressive. The equipment was excellent. He came extremely prepared, and it was clear. It was a lot of fun working with him.
We would recommend Derek to anyone.

We recently just got married on Aug 2 2014 @ the ridge resort! I had read all of his reviews before I had made a final decision that we wanted him to be our DJ. everything across the board were 5 stars and I knew then that he was going to be great. As soon as our wedding coordinator Wendy went home for the night Derek was in charge and did amazing! What I l0oved about him was that he would check in with me throughout the night making sure everything was ok and was going smoothly. All of my family loved Derek!
I without a doubt would recommend Derek for any party or wedding.

08.02.14 THE RIDGE RESORT

We had no fewer than 50 people come up to us during and after our wedding and tell us that our DJ and photobooth were the best that they had ever seen at a wedding. Derek and Vicki from Lake DJ provided both of those services for our wedding. Every single part of the interaction with Derek leading up to our wedding day was wonderful and he never made me feel stupid or ridiculous for asking millions of questions along the way. When I asked him if he had a pin light that we could rent for our wedding cake, he said he did but we couldn’t rent it — he would just throw it in as part of his services — and on the day of our wedding the pin light was there and beautifully set yp to illuminate our cake. Derek’s equipment is stellar, the emulator is awesome, and his mc’ing skills are off the charts. He kept our dance floor completely packed all night and he kept the evening flowing flawlessly. We even had time to eat at our own wedding because of Derek’s ability to time everything perfectly! Vicki was so sweet and ran the photobooth so well, making sure that our guests’ photos made it into the photo scrap book that they provided. Their prop collection is more awesome than I can even describe and many of our guests agreed that they had never seen better props for a photobooth. We could not have been happier with every part of Lake DJ’s services and we would recommend them to absolutely everyone. Thank you so much, Derek and Vicki, for making our wedding so fun and memorable and we truly heart you both!

Derek provided music for our ceremony, reception and dancing party for our wedding in February 2015. He participated in the rehearsal and was very proactive, had a lot of suggestions. He was very easy to communicate with and responsive to our every request. He played some Russian music that was provided to him in advance and looked like he had a blast together with all the wedding group. At the same time he helped us to keep our schedule, cut the cake on time and such. I recommend his services to anyone else who does not want to be disappointed on their big day! Thank you, Derek!!!

Derek and his wife did the music and photo booth at my Edgewood Tahoe wedding — I still can’t believe how awesome they were! I planned the whole event from overseas, and was a bit unorganized and clueless as to what I needed to do for the ceremony and reception timelines. Derek basically organized the timeline and made sure everything went to plan — I didn’t have a wedding planner and definitely didn’t need one for the day of since he did such an amazing job. All the guests loved him, and the music selection was great. I was also really impressed by the photo booth — there were SO MANY props, and they brought a guestbook to put the duplicate photos in as well.
I can’t recommend Derek highly enough — Lake DJ was. by far one of the best wedding decisions I made.

I married my husband in August 2014 and feel so fortunate that Derek made our day so easy and memorable. We didn’t really know what exactly we wanted to do, but we knew what we didn’t want and Derek helped us to even structure a day that was just perfect. He helped us understand what COULD happen regarding the traditional parts of the ceremony and reception and embraced the unique things we brought to the day. He was truly the master of ceremonies and made everything so easy, leading us through our ceremony, toasts and reception/​dinner and perfectly timing it all. All our guests loved him and thought he really helped make our day wonderful. Always with our requested background music, dance music and dinner music… at the perfect volume and timing. Seamless technology, microphones for the vows and toasts and a great sound system — magically appearing and just working without any problems through the whole day.
Worth every penny and a true professional. Thanks so much Derek — we really appreciate everything you did to make our day so memorable!

We hired Derek to M.C. our wedding and he did an incredible job. He He did everything we asked him to do and so much more! He gave me great advice about every aspect of our wedding. Derek was referred to us by The Ridge. He did our ceremony and reception. He did an awesome job keeping our wedding running smoothly. We really appreciated him keeping everything on time and fun. He asked us before he did each thing to make sure it was what we wanted and when we wanted. He did not do a lot of extra talking or anything. We were very happy with him.

Jason and I got married this last Friday, June 27^th. I did my research, asked all my other vendors for DJ recommendations and decided Derek was the best DJ in Tahoe so I booked him. Wow we are so happy we did!!!
I emailed Derek my timeline of events, names of speakers, everything I wanted to happen and he made all my dreams come true. What a fantastic evening.
By 11:00 PM, no one was leaving! Everyone was on the dance floor! We decided to extend the reception right before Derek called Last Song. Derek did not hesitate at all to play longer for us.
If you are reading this and you are trying to decide what DJ to book, book him! He books up quick so don’t wait too long to make your decision!!!

Derek is absolutely fabulous! I think everyone here has captured all of the wonderful things, but I felt it only fair to add in my review as well. When I spoke with Derek about a week before my wedding, I finally felt very calm about everything. Derek made me feel so confident about the choices I had made in music and also in my choice to hire him. I could tell he was a pro and had done this many times, but he never made me feel like this was just another wedding. I would recommend him time and time again. Thank you Derek for helping to make our day so special!

My wife and I had Derek and Vicki DJ for our wedding.
What can I say that hasn’t yet been said? Derek did a great job not only playing our songs, he also was easy to get in touch with and helped to keep our reception moving along. You can tell that they’ve done a lot of weddings and know the routine and variations well.
He and his wife are organized, friendly, and professional. They’ll work hard to play your music, but also have great recommendations for ceremony and dancing as well. You can’t really go wrong selecting Lake DJ.

We hired Derek for our ceremony and reception music and he performed so much better than we ever imagined. Him and his wife were an amazing team. He took care of our ceremony while his wife got the music ready for our cocktail hour.
He excels as Master of Ceremonies and made sure everything throughout the night went so smoothly. We gave him a list of songs we wanted to hear and his music choices beyond that were spot on with our crowd. People danced throughout the night and he made sure my new husband and I were well taken care of.

For our ceremony I had picked out Vitamin String Quartet songs and he made sure to see who was walking so the cues would be perfect with the songs. The Best!
He didn’t have any problems with not having a song I requested.

We got married on April 12, 2014 at Camp Richardson in South Lake Tahoe.
Everything went as smooth as possible and he even double checked to make sure we weren’t missing anything that most weddings do, such as garter toss and bouquet toss. We hadn’t even planned on the cake cutting in front of everyone but he seamlessly did that with us and made sure all our guests knew what was happening all throughout the night.
We are both amazed at how perfect our wedding was and the best thing we did was hire Derek as our DJ. Simply made the night that much better! :-)

Derek (Spelled correctly) is simply amazing!!! I cannot express enough how happy I am that he was our DJ. Derek was able to provide suggestions and they worked out great for us. He also was the emcee which was fantastic and took control, when needed, so there was NEVER any downtime. He was there, but never in the way.

Absolutely AMAZING! Derek is wonderful! HIGHLY recommended!
We had our wedding at the Ridge in Tahoe. Derek was recommended by the wedding coordinator at the resort. From our first contact with him, he was very friendly, prompt, and showed that he was there for us and our special night. Part of our wedding invitation RSVP was for guests to request songs, which we compiled and sent to him. During the reception he played EVERY one of them. Prior to the big night, he contacted us to ensure some «popular» songs were okay to play, which was very thoughtful considering we don’t necessarily like all the «trendy» wedding reception songs. He also asked for a list of «definitely do NOT play» songs, which we appreciated.
We first met him in person the day of our wedding, and he was nothing but accommodating. He brought LED colored lights to give the reception a bit more «flavor». Prior to the wedding ceremony, he met with both of us and confirmed the songs one last time, then discussed how we wanted the reception to be announced. I was very impressed that he took charge during the reception, much like a wedding planner (which we didn’t have) would do. He not only played music and introduced the wedding party, he coordinated the dinner buffet so there wouldn’t be a mad rush to the food.
He was excellent at prepping our guests for what was to come, such as the first dance, Best Man/​Maid of Honor speeches, etc. I must say what I was most impressed about was his setup. If guests wanted to hear a song that wasn’t on our original list, he would either play it immediately (if he had it), or buy it immediately and play it after it downloaded! What a way to cater to your guests!
Lake DJ is EXCELLENT. We couldn’t be happier with the service we received! I recommend them for any wedding, birthday celebration, or other party where you want to have a great time!!!

Derek is incredible! Such a professional, easy-​going Master of Ceremonies (his accent was a lovely touch!), and life-​of the party DJ. I could not be happier with our choice to use Derek for our wedding and he truly made it a memorable event. He was willing to come meet with us prior to the wedding to help ease-​our minds and was willing to edit down songs for us for ceremony music. He was great at sensing the vibe of the crowd and playing appropriate music to match the energy. Our wedding turned into a massive dance party (which is exactly what we wanted) and I greatly attribute it to Derek.

Derek was amazing! He made the whole evening go so smoothly, from start to finish. The ceremony music was beautiful and the reception was fantastic. We decided not to give him a set list, just gave him a few artists we liked and let him run with it. He did great with it! Everyone danced the night away and we even extended the reception for an hour! He kept everyone wrangled together, gave us small warnings when he would need us for bouquet toss and garter, etc. The whole night was basically ran by him, and it was perfection. Oh and he even brought us drinks while we were getting our photographs done! Can’t beat that. Go with Derek, you can’t go wrong!

From the moment we first contacted Derek, he was absolutely fantastic. Not only was he there every step of the way to work through music with us, but he was also happy to discuss timelines, coordination, and provide feedback on other vendors when we couldn’t figure out who to go with. He is extremely prompt with email and phone calls, not to mention being 100% willing to meet in-​person with us whenever we were in the area and had questions. I’m extremely Type-​A and was very stressed about all of the itty bitty details, but Derek was patient and organized, and everything went perfectly.
In terms of actual DJ duties, Derek is «the man.» His music choices were always perfect to get people dancing, he made announcements at just the rights times, and perhaps best of all he was not one of those «wedding guys» that is constantly filling your reception with cheesy comments and the like.
Derek is absolutely top notch, and I’d recommend him to anyone looking for a great DJ with some awesome coordinating skills.

Derek was amazing! We just got married last weekend in Edgewood’s North Room and Derek couldn’t have been more on top of things.
Not only did Derek do his job in making sure things flowed according to schedule (I’m VERY type-​A), but he made sure to check in with my husband and I, making sure we were doing okay, including bringing us drinks while we were out taking pictures.
Derek was also great in accommodation all of the Assyrian music and traditions that my mother-​in-​law wanted incorporated into the wedding reception. He worked well with our other vendors and everyone of our guests loved him! Plus, the emulator is super cool!
I would definitely recommend Derek to anyone searching for a DJ in the Tahoe area; he will make your event memorable and easy!
