Rustic Chicken

I have been to Rustic Chicken 2 times now. It is okay, but nothing to write home about. The first time I ordered a panini and mac & cheese. The panini was pretty good but the mac & cheese was soggy. My friend ordered one of the rice bowls and it was okay, but the brussels sprouts were not good — they use tamarind sauce or something like it and it was weird. I went again to Rustic Chicken with a friend who can’t eat gluten, diary, nuts or beans. She LOVED it. There is a lot of the menu for people with dietary restrictions. The 2^nd time I ordered a rice bowl and it was pretty good. Still ³⁄₅ on it, but I would go back. The restaurant is very hipster and decorated nicely. They post recipes on the walls, which is cool. Soda is served from mason jars. The staff is super nice too.

Food was excellent; however, we waited for our food. I saw it placed under the warmers and waited 10 minutes before I decided they weren’t going to buzz us. I went up to the counter and asked for our food and handed over the buzzer. I was accused of picking up the incorrect buzzer as there was no order tied to the buzzer I was given. We finally got it straightened out and was given the food. As I ate, I watched the other patrons. Everyone was getting anxious as the wait was long. Numerous orders were incorrect. The head chef or owner or whoever he was, got frustrated with the other staff. Very unprofessional. I’ll probably not go back. It was a very disappointing meal.

Tried this place since it was close to my hotel, the chicken breast was dry, the Brussels were way too sweet and the beets were the same. The best part were the roasted potatoes and even then I could have made that at home. The best part of the restaurant was the cute décor inside. It was pretty pricey for a meal, drink, and cookie to end up to be $ 18 bucks. Bad dinner…

This place is amazing! The chicken is so most and has delicious flavor. The agave roasted beets and the red quinoa sides are my favorites, however, recently the gotcha Sriracha bowl has been my go to. The price may seem high to some people but the portion sizes are large enough for 2 meals. Go there and enjoy the deliciousness! Plus, the décor is super cute!

I wanted to like this place. I liked the idea of a healthier meal than burgers and fries. Cute, clean restaurant, but the food just didn’t justify the price. We ordered a half chicken with mac and cheese and a side salad and a chicken panini with a bowl of soup for over $ 30. The chicken was essentially a rotisserie chicken you could get at Smith’s Marketplace for $ 7. The sandwich was good, but nothing special. The soup and the Mac and cheese were both very bland. Just not impressed.

Great new place, clean, friendly and good well-​prepared healthy recipes that taste superb.

My love/​hate relationship with Rustic Chicken continues… But I am happy to say, from my recent visits, I have only love. Seems like management got the message and they started doing something right. The last few times I have come for lunch, my order was timely and food was prepared perfectly. The Yard Bird Salad is my favorite and I get a cup of the Chicken Tortilla Soup if I am feeling extra famished.
I have to say, I am really pulling for Rustic Chicken to be a success. I think the future of restaurants relies on this organic/​local-​love concept of slow cooking. Sure, it may take a bit longer because it’s made-​to-​order, and sure, prices may be a teensy bit higher because we want our local producers to actually make a sustainable living; but the payoff is solid gold. Keep on, keepin’ on, Rustic Chicken. If you keep making food this good, I’ll keep coming.

I work near this restaurant and I have been a couple times now and it is delicious! The ingredients are fresh and the flavor is excellent. I will continue to go back and hope that others give it a try too!

Originally planned to eat at the restaurant next door to Rustic Chicken, but our plans changed when we saw how busy the restaurant next door was… So we wandered over the Rustic Chicken and figured we would give it a try.
I am actually a vegetarian so I wasn’t sure how many vegetarian options they would have at a restaurant called Rustic Chicken… but I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the tomato bisque and the gringo salad (sans chicken) and they were both delicious. My two daughters liked the kids choices as well. They loved the chicken leg and the Mac and cheese. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is we ordered one meal to go so I could take it home to my husband, but when we got home, I realized they gave me the wrong order. My husband ate it anyway and said it was good, it was just disappointing we didn’t get what we ordered. I’m sure we will go back to this restaurant again!

Okay, here’s the deal… if you get dry chicken, ask for a new piece of chicken. Simple. Sometimes when holding white meat chicken in the warmth to keep it at proper temperature, it dries it out. No biggie. They have plenty of chicken.
And the chicken… when it’s right, it’s PERFECT. Sticky, crispy, succulent, flavorful, perfect. I’m happy to go there for the chicken only.
The beets are lovely too – golden beets with raisins and just a touch of honey, perfectly roasted – not too sweet, not too earthy. Other sides… for me, these need work. The good news is that they know it. The mac and cheese doesn’t hold well, gets mushy easily. Some people love the Brussels sprouts, I was underwhelmed. Same for the potatoes (they need more seasoning overall).
Tortilla soup hit the spot.
Salad dressings are great. Desserts are fabulous and homestyle.
And they have a countertop Coke Freestyle machine and I covet it. Not that it has anything to do with the quality of the food. It’s just a bonus.
If you’re looking for perfect rotisserie chicken in SLC, look no further. Nobody else even comes close.

Let me start by saying I was so excited to hear about this place opening. Local produce and hormone free chicken at a restaurant seemed almost too good to be true. I first went there right after they opened and loved everything I ordered. So much I’ve ordered from there weekly since. At least I did, until last week. Each time I’ve ordered, I’ve gotten the same exact thing I’ve gotten since I started going there. The pulled chicken meal with Mac n cheese and beets on the side.
At first it was enjoyable, but since then, it’s felt like I’ve ordered something different each time. My most recent trip there, the chicken was dry and something wasn’t right with it. There was a piece of bone and pieces of fat thrown in with it. So much, almost half of the ‘chicken’ was not edible or enjoyable at all. The mac n cheese is completely different from when I starting going there. It’s as if they put some Kraft in a recyclable container for me. The prices have also increased since I started going, which doesn’t make sense considering the food quality seems to have gone down. I’m not sure what the reason is for all the changes, but whatever it is, isn’t working. I had such high hopes when they opened, but I won’t consider going back until I can be sure they’re going to make a decision with their menu and actually stick to it. I’m not going to spend nearly $ 14 for a meal and a soda there when I can get something with higher quality food and lower prices elsewhere.
I will note the service has always been great there. The workers have been nice and personable. It’s too bad that even the service doesn’t make up for what I’ve been served lately.
If you’re looking for a good roasted chicken meal, save yourself the trouble and just buy a roasted chicken at Costco, and make yourself a box of Kraft mac n cheese. It’s cheaper and not as disappointing.

It’s too bad when a good restaurant starts out trying to make the big bucks. The food is good but way too expensive and for a big guy like me the portions were extra small. Even my grandma needed more food in her main dish. Their food might be all natural or whatever but why charge a small fortune which cuts out a lot of people. Too bad for me after I ate at your place, I left paying a fortune but feeling like I just had an appetizer. I hope this place can make it and with the people who make a lot more than I do they should be ok. It’s just too bad you cut out a group of people who have low to average incomes.

New food option in a place that needs more independent food options for all of us corporate slaves that work in Cottonwood Heights.
I tried it for the first time with a few colleagues from work. Looked like a good place to go when I wasn’t in the mood to eat heavy sodium and meats. In retrospect, I’m not sure how much lower in sodium this place is compared to my usual haunts.
I ordered the half chicken with the mac’n’cheese and Brussels sprouts as my sides. I thought it was fine but nothing special. I like rotisserie chicken. And this was rotisserie chicken. But that’s about it. In my humble opinion not much better than Costco rotisserie chicken (yikes, did j just compare this to food from my local discount warehouse club?). But in all seriousness, the Costco chicken is pretty good and for $ 5 for a whole chicken, it’s a deal like everything else there. But back to this place. The meal cost $ 13 and then about $ 2 for a drink. Way too much for what I got. The half chicken was a decent size portion and the sides were both an average sized portion each.
Chicken was lukewarm and generally moist for the dark meat parts. The dark meat parts were flavorful and good. The breast was unfortunately dry and kind of flavorless. The skin was crispy ish and generally good in flavor.
Mac’n’cheese was not standard Kraft. It had multiple cheeses (no idea what) and tasted pretty good. I just wish they served it a little warmer. I really liked the pan fried Brussels sprouts. I’m a fan of these things when they are baked or fried and there is some light toasting of the outside edges. These were moist, savory and had a hint of sweet. I scarfed these down.
My colleague got the chicken salad on a croissant. I tasted it and I have to say the chicken salad had too much dressing for my taste. It kind of drowned out the chicken which should be the core flavor.
As one other reviewer noted, this place is new and I’m sure there are kinks to work out as with any new restaurant. Overall this was a 2.5 star experience for me but I bumped it up because of this consideration. I will try it again in a few months and see if my reaction changes.

Finally a place you can eat rather healthy in Cottonwood. Rotisserie style chicken with lots of vegetable option. Looks like a good place for vegetarians too.
I got the quarter chicken white with Brussels and golden beets. Chicken was cooked perfect and wish I would got the half chicken. Place is decorated nice and staff was friendly.

Humanely raised, organic, GMO-​free chicken? What! I want some Portlandia chicken!
Since I have crappy health, I cook mostly organic vegan/​vegetarian and sometime i will introduce meat at home. It is difficult to stick with same diet when you are eating out. Rustic chicken might be the answer.
Unfortunately, it was a disappointment and this place needs some improvements. We ordered chicken caesar salad, chicken salad sandwich and rotisserie chicken for to go. I agree with Lexi and Hang. The chicken tasted very bland and the meat was very dry. I couldn’t stand my food and ended up toss them. Basically I starve myself for the rest of night. My husband said his sandwich was meh and it could use more seasoning. Since the chicken salad sandwich was mixed with mayo, the chicken wasn’t that dry.
This is a new restaurant and probably still experimenting. I will give it few weeks and come back try it again.

The food, atmosphere, and hospitality are wonderful. I am a repeat customer now, and I have tried a number of dishes – all have been very good. The Tortilla Chicken Soup is a personal favorite. Prices are incredibly reasonable and service is very quick. Keep up the great work!

Definitely worth the money and we will be coming back again. Generous portions, homemade with high quality ingredients. Someone mentioned the opening week when everything was new, but it is operating more smoothly now. Also true there’s not much spice flavor in chicken, but nicely charbroiled with excellent homemade sauces to dip in. All other menu items are better than we imagined, with fresh herbs & spices, and worth trying.

Just read Lexi S experience. Mine was nearly identical food wise. In short, has potential but chicken lacked seasoning (insert it tastes like chicken comment) and on the dry side.

The food is delicious but my favorite part is the atmosphere. Warm colors, good music, and so many cute mason jars. Everyone’s so friendly and we felt really at home.

We decided to check out Rustic Chicken after seeing such high reviews. Not to mention, some hot, juicy chicken sounded like it would really hit the spot.
When we arrived, there were lots of people there but all seeming to be owners and employees. The first problem we encountered was upon walking in and finding the menu. It is located to your immediate left. So, you end up standing awkwardly, directly in front of the door, deciding on what you’d like to have. The register and spot to place your order seems like its right in front of you, but they have almost barricaded this area off so we didn’t know if we were entering through the out… frankly, we were just flummoxed at the set up.
The restaurant itself is really beautiful and well, rustic. The menu has a lot of excellent options so once we figured out how to maneuver our way to the register and place our order, we did just that. The yardbird salad for me with rotisserie chicken, and chicken breast plate with mac and cheese and lemon potatoes for my pal.
You could immediately tell the place was new as there was a lot of walking around, learning to use the register, and deciding on how to get the food together. I wished one of the owners would have stepped in to help their staff.
Now, all of that stuff can be really overlooked as it’s early and they can hopefully work it out (even just change the door that folks enter through to help the Que.!).
But let’s talk food.
Beginning the with chicken breast, it was so unfortunate. This poor chicken has not only died and been cooked to be enjoyed by many but then, it was if if had been left in the desert to dry out before arriving on the plate. It was not served hot and very disappointing. Moving onto the sides served on this plate; mac and cheese had good flavor but again was luke warm and mushy! There is nothing worse for me than overcooked, mushy pasta. I know they are working out kinks but keep the noodles and cheese sauce separate and fire it to order. It takes a minute or 2 and you’ll get a much better product for service! The potatoes also had great flavor but were undercooked making it difficult to enjoy.
For me, the salad was very tasty and fresh. The dressing was lightly tossed and ingredients worked well. However, the rotisserie chicken was cold and dry. Perhaps I was out of line in thinking that a place called Rustic CHICKEN would be killing it in the poultry department. There wasn’t a spit roasted chicken to be seen in the restaurant. They have beautiful equipment. I do hope they will showcase there namesake product in the future and pull the delicious meat from the oven for each dish. My salad also was supposed to come with grilled focaccia. They forgot it initially so when asked, they brought it over. The bread was in a sad state. It seemed to have been cut and grilled hours earlier as by the time it came to my table, it was hard like a giant croûton. Again, cut the bread to order. Focaccia is an amazing but it was really not enjoyable.
I hope the new restaurant will be a success and we will come back and try it in a few months when things are hopefully figured out. We have been in this business and understand the difficulties faced and by no means do I want this review to hurt their business. The owner did ask our thoughts and we shared some issues with our meal. He was very kind and interested in getting better. I really don’t want to be that person who knocks a new place but these are things they need to know. The food could be really fantastic… so serve it fresh and hot.
Best of luck to Rustic Chicken, it’s a huge endeavor. With a name like this, please make your chicken the undeniable star of the show!

A panini should melt in your mouth, be thin and crispy… it hurt my mouth to eat this one and somebody tell this place the difference between dark and white meat. The mac n cheese was good though.

So good! Affordable! New place highly recommended. Don’t let the chicken name fool u this is an excellent place for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten free as well as any allergens. Happy hippie salad with tofu was great! It was smoked tofu! And the tofu piece was much bigger than I expected so glad I tried here! Sad that I’m only visiting and can’t go back! I asked the manager to build one in my hometown which is unheard of for me. Also has a great atmosphere
