History

Established in 1991.

The VanDerZee family has owned auto dealerships in South Haven since 1957. Ed and Betty VanDerZee came to South Haven from South Holland, Illinois on a weekend in 1947 to buy some fresh fruit. They liked the area so well that they bought the fruit farm. During winters, Ed worked at the local Pontiac-Oliver tractor dealership. In 1957 he realized that the auto business was his calling.

Meet the Business Owner

Ray V.

Business Owner

Ray and Linda VanDerZee had an idea of building a 1950’s era theme store in South Haven for their auto and powersports business. In 2006 they found a designer who shared there passion and in the fall of 2006 VanDerZee Motorplex opened on Phoenix Street.

Ray grew up in his father’s Pontiac dealership. At age 12 he started sweeping floors, then progressed to car wash, parts stocking, lube technician, service manager, and new car sales manager. In 1978 he became a partner with his brother as owners of the dealership. In 1991 Ray and Linda opened their Kawasaki and auto dealership near the South Haven Walmart store. In September of 2006 the new facility opened. VanDerZee Motorplex is now one of the largest Kawasaki dealerships in the Midwest. This is a dealership that is proud of our reputation for honesty and integrity. Our dealership is a place where you can have fun, relax and know that you are working with true powersports and auto enthusiasts.
