Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary

Seems like a wonderful seminary but unfortunately they do not offer housing that allows for a dog. I have had her for 10 years, I have no choice. And it is very important to my wife and I that we live on campus. So far, Southwestern and Southern Baptist Theological Seminaries offer housing on campus for a family with a dog.

I love this school. I can say a lot about it. I doubt that if you’re considering applying to this school you would be asking Unilocal for help, but in the case you are… I want to say do it! Apply. The faculty is Christ-​like, caring, personal and knowledgeable. The school is also located in one of the most beautiful places in the u.s.
If you have kids, I also recommend studying here because there are awesome, kid friendly libraries and beaches. Also, there are a lot of kids that your kids can befriend. If you have any more questions please let me know! I could write quite a lot about this school. It has been an unforgettable blessing to me and continues to be so.

Gordon-​Conwell has (at least) three campuses: South Hamilton, Boston /​The Center for Adult Ministerial Education, and Charlotte, NC. Each of these has a slightly different model of ministerial education. I primarily took my classes (1998 – 2005) at the South Hamilton campus, a couple «distance learning» (Semlink), one through Boston, and a couple of Boston Theological Institute classes as electives.
This is the only Evangelical /​non-​denominational theological school in the Boston area. Although you can find all three branches of the churches in the Boston area and take courses through BTI (e.g., Holy Cross [Greek Orthodox] Theological School, St. John’s [Roman Catholic] Seminary) as well as any of the other BTI schools.
South Hamilton tends to take the model of pastor-​scholar and primarily has relatively young students. This is more of the Presbyterian-​Congregational model, taking college/​university graduates who are solidly Christians with academic gifting who wish to pursue some kind of Christian leadership (including professional ministry). (In contrast, Boston/​CUME takes on more of «continuing education» for current ministers and Charlotte tends to be more of «theological training for non-​professional ministry and/​or second-​career students.»)
Overall, I liked my theological training. I was a distance-​student/​part-​time student, and that has its own challenges (e.g., not as integrated with the seminary community), but it also afforded me different advantages. While the tuition at South Hamilton was higher than say at CUME, except for one class taught by one professor (who is no longer tenured at GCTS), I thought my money was well-​spent.
A number of very solid professors in terms of their relevant background as well as instructional ability.
I did not live on campus although I did stay on campus in guest rooms a couple of times. I see they’ve done a lot of work to make the new dormitories very nice.
