I had a great experience end-to-end. The customer service was excellent. They responded immediately when I called to inquire and came to provide an estimate the next day. I worked with Larry. He was knowledgeable, frank in his assessment of my needs and made thoughtful recommendations. Dawn, the Office Manager, was also great to work with. Cost of the carpet was very reasonable and quality so far is awesome. I was particularly appreciative of their understanding when I had a family emergency and had to request rescheduling about 4 hours before my carpet was to be installed (non-business hours). I would pick Universal again and again for the following reasons:
— easy, efficient process from estimate to installation to final payment
— they win on cost for the carpet I selected (compared to other local companies)
— great team to work with
— Installation: Cesar and Sergio arrived on time, worked hard, did a wonderful job and were in and out in a day!
— They keep you informed (e.g., explained whole process to me)
— They have a lot of carpet in stock and what they have to order comes back quick (mine took about 4 business days).
— They listen! I was specific about what I did and didn’t want and when Larry came out, he clearly based the samples on my request.

We are so glad we used Universal for our flooring. We had to replace 10+ yr old carpet and vinyl floors that weren’t the highest grade to begin with (supplied by the builder). Having never bought carpet, I did some research on-line. Found a great article which outlined how to buy carpet. That article made me realize the best choice was to NOT go to a home improvement store with a flooring dept, or use one of those ‘buy-one-room-get-6-free’ places, but to find a local, reputable independant flooring business. That is exactly what we found at Universal Carpet. Larry took us through figuring out what product would best serve our needs. We were planning on getting laminate, but he had concerns that water could be an issue and showed us some great vinyl plank flooring that is safe to use in areas with water. Larry was really great to work with and did everything he could to get us a reasonable price. The install went great and their installers were very professional. We couldn’t be happier with our experience with Universal Carpet. I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone needing flooring work.

Again I needed a good quality carpeting quickly and because I’ve been able to rely on and trust Universal Carpet, namely Cary Saar for carpeting C & G’s 5 homes. I only needed to make one phone call! I remain very impressed with both the quality of the service and the quality of the carpet; from ordering, to scheduling, to installing, every step of the process at Universal Carpet is finely turned. Even the installers’ music was a pleasure! It’s great to see a small company grow yet retain the same high standards with their products and their people! I’m glad I can count on Universal Carpet.

I had a tremendously positive experience with Universal Carpet. Working with Larry was great from day 1. He came out to my house and performed a measurement and laid out all our options and multiple pricing tiers. He was not looking to make a huge profit by convincing us to overextend on our budget and was at no point pushy. He was patient with us and made himself available to answer any questions we had before we decided to go with Universal. He truly did EARN our business. Any carpet salesman can go to your house with a swatch or options and take measurements, but Larry is friendly and personable, and that makes a difference to me.
The installation went great. Jake was a true artist at his profession. He was prompt for the first day of the install, curious and very pleasant. I looked hard in all rooms for imperfections but I was not able to find any. He took such great care with the installation and it showed.
I will absolutely use Universal again and would recommend them to anyone looking to have a superior flooring experience.

We used Universal for the first time to install tile backsplash in our large kitchen. We had made our rounds to Menard’s, Home Depot, etc, but no one really had time/knowledge that we were in need of. We like to shop local, so went into Universal one Sat morning. They rent a small portion of a furniture store and seemed to carry a nice variety of tile. Cary/owner was very helpful and informative. He was not the pushy salesman type and was helpful with our choices. Price was within our budget and they were able to install within a few weeks time.
Larry was our installer and did a beautiful job on the kitchen backsplash. After it was all finished the kitchen exceeded our expectations. There were a lot of light sockets to cut around, but Larry did a seamless job. He actually worked ²¹⁄₂ full days on this project. He also did a decent clean up as well.
I highly recommend for tile work. Very happy with finished job.

I’m a bit delayed in writing this review.
We used Universal about a year ago to put a carpet runner on our newly-refinished hardwood stairs. I didn’t want just anything average, and Universal had unique things to offer. More importantly, their installers did a beautiful job.
While their showroom isn’t as large as some other giants, they were able to satisfy my desire to have something unique yet neutral.
Customer Service was great.
I would _without a doubt_use them again.

We called Universal after having bad experiences with «shop at home» carpet companies that used high pressure sales tactics. Cary came to our home and provided a reasonable price and great carpet options, without using the high pressure tactics. They were very flexible when I needed to change my installation date. The installers did a great job and were very polite. Good installation is really important if you want your carpet to last. I would use Universal again!

I called Universal to ask about installing carpet that I already had. The carpet is in great shape. The person on the phone told me that they wouldn’t come out to give me an estimate for the work citing that it was not worth his time to do so. He said he doesn’t make enough money on jobs like this.
He gave me the name of his «best carpet installer» — Jake Amore — to see if he would do it. I called Jake several times and left messages. After about 3 messages, he called me back and we scheduled an appointment. He then cancelled the appointment. I called back several times but he refuses to call me back.
Bottom line is that Universal will only speak to you when they think they can make a lot of money off of you and their «best installer» doesn’t know about customer service and that probably carries over into his professional work.
