If you’re visiting Boston, do yourself a favor and skip Faneuil Hall, Duck Tours, etc. etc. and come have a real Boston experience. This place is authentic Boston with phenomenal food.
Parking is easy, prices are reasonable, portions are legit. Food is awesome and the people working at Galley Diner have more character than just about anywhere else in the city. Support these guys. It’s a killer local business.

Perfect breakfast place in Southie! The staff were so warm and welcoming. The food was great and the prices were very fair. I’ll be back.

On a cold winter morning, the best corned beef hash I’ve ever had along with fried eggs & home fries was just what I needed. Kudos to Colleen & Skud!

Best breakfast in South Boston! Best corn beef hash around and I don’t even think they know. Modest and just great people in this spot. Order ham and eggs and just watch them slice the 8 LB pork shoulder they have. Most necessary hangover remedy in South Boston!

Galley is the heart of southie! This diner has so much history — check out the walls when you are in there to learn the history of southie.
Such a good family feel as well. Colleen will greet you at the door and Paul will make you home-​fries to die for. The corned beef hash is bomb but be warned they load their omelette up with whatever type you choose so choose wisely.

Everybody asks me what is so different about New England than the west coast where I live, and this place is a prime example. This is a place you walk into and everyone knows your name, there’s photos of the locals on the walls as well as cut out news paper articles, and the grill is right in front of you with a slew of breakfast items on it– making the whole place smell like home cooking. I myself appreciate a good breakfast spot, nothing fancy just plain old good simple breakfast. This place is the place. I got the corn beef hash and it was perfect, the hash was crispy and flavorful. The menu has almost anything you could want and my coffee cup was being filled as I sat down. Can I pack this place up and bring it back to the west coast with me?

Comfort breakfast food, made with heart, and soul, and a lot of hard work. The Galley Diner is a place where you can get a filling breakfast and see the magic unfold in front of ya. The place is small (holds exactly 28 people between the bar and the tables) but is run by a staff full of zest and passion for what they do. Each and everyone of them. Full of character and that quintessential Southie grit (no grits on the menu btw) — which seems to be evaporating with the ever changing skyline of South Boston — the place may leave your clothes smelling of scrambled eggs, fries and linguisa, but your stomach full and taste buds totally satisfied with some hearty, no frills, old fashioned breakfast food.
The menu is quite extensive and there are plenty of options to choose from. For my first time, I went for a corned beef hash, with 2 eggs over easy, home fries and whole wheat toast, and regular coffee (as they say — bottomless — like that acronym for free refills!). Felt good being seated at the bar. Watching the head chef work that grill like a pro that he has been — probably for decades, will make you wanna go there again to try something new every time and see how he manages the feat, single handedly, of course supported by the rest of the crew. But he definitely calls the shots and runs the show.
In essence: great service, reasonable prices, down to earth ambiance, satisfying meal. The pancakes and some other specials listed on the wall, not the main menu — would be my target — next time I go. Very much falls under the ‘indulge in some no attitude, you get what you see, gritty comfort food’ category. Thanks guys!

Absolutely delicious, perfect portion size, super friendly staff, beautiful houses nearby and a very cozy, homey feel to the place.

Do you want to eat the best corn beef hash ever made? Then go to the Galley Diner. It’s the BEST diner in South Boston (maybe even all of Boston). It’s a tiny little spot nestled in between apartments near Castle Island and has the BEST breakfast. There’s always a crowd waiting outside, hoping to get one of their four tables or a spot at the counter.
If you like corn beef hash you have to go. It’s the most delicious hash I’ve ever eaten and every time I go, I tell myself I’m going to try something else, but it’s too good to pass up.
Things I absolutely recommend:
— Cornbeef hash
— Ham and eggs (they slice off a huge piece of honey baked ham and then grill it)
— Buttermilk pancakes (picture the biggest pancake you’ve ever eaten and then double it)
— Kielbasa with anything
— the COFFEE
This placed has saved me many-​a-​times after a night out and I always bring out of towners here. Definitely get there early if you want to beat the crowd, but it’s always worth the wait.

Old school diner. Had a slice of ham a quarter inch thick! Great ambience, good honest mom and pop place.

One of my best meals in Boston! Had the corned beef hash, my brother had the French Toast. Both were delicious! Sat at the counter and watched the cook grill things with a very practiced hand. A real Southie experience.

If you’re looking for a healthy, this probably isn’t it. Toast smothered in butter was wonderful, and exactly what diner toast should be.
Space is a little tight, but the counter is comfortable and the service was solid.

Ok not much to say about this place, just that if you visit Boston you have to get breakfast here at least once. It’s such a local spot and old school look to it. The food was fresh made so you wait for it but man when it shows up its delicious. And pet friendly for outside tables. I just highly recommend it.

2^nd time there and once again it was totally satisfying. I felt full just looking at my plate. Southie omelette with a side of bacon. Delicious! Best hash around with out a doubt.
The service is great and don’t worry about the wait. The turn over is quickly. Definitely a family business that know what they are doing.

Yeah. This is the place. Reminds me of old-​school South Boston. Sure, it’s a hole in the wall. Sure, the place gets loud. Sure, you’re crammed in there. Sure, I’ve had a piece of onion sneak into my flapjacks. And sure, the prices aren’t ultra cheap.
But: portion sizes, quality of food, relatively speedy service, I could go on. I’m amazed at how Paul can do like 20 things at once on that small grill. It’s a top-​notch joint, a bit out of the way from the rest of town but worth the trip. In fact, that’s one of the reasons it works. The Galley wouldn’t be the Galley if it were on Broadway.

Wasn’t craving for any of the usual stuff so i remembered hearing about this place and there Corned Beef Hash. Dropped by in the morning about 9 or 10am and they weren’t busy. Ordered two corned beef hash to go and an egg and cheese sandwich to eat on the way home.
Toast was really good, and the Corned Beef Hash was great! I had it with eggs and some cheese, had to take out the sandwich since i was only rolling with 20 bucks but the guy slide the sandwich in the bag anyway, good thing i found an old wrinkled dollar in my pocket to atleast tip him off in appreciation LOL!
This is why its so important to treat your customers with the best service possible, I will definitely be coming back. The food was great, the service was great, very cool guy!

I stopped in here with my boyfriend after seeing the local diner on the news after Boston’s horrible winter. We are super into diners (as is everyone else in Southie on a hangover filled Saturday morning) and decided to venture farther than the regular places on west Broadway.
This place and the food lived up to all that we were expecting. I got the classic eggs, toast, sausage combo and my boyfriend got pancakes (gigantic! And tasty). Everything tastes great and we even got some free mini pastries to go home with at the end of our meal. The place is definitely small and gets filled pretty quickly on the weekends so definitely plan ahead. Also there are a limited number of tables so it’s not the best place for big groups.
Definitely a diner you should try and is worth its current title of best diner in boston 2015!

Moved to Southie a few weeks ago and figured I should try the legendary Galley Diner. Since moving to Boston, I haven’t been able to find my diner. You know, a place that you go at least once per week, first name basis, «the usual,» etc.
I found that place in The Galley Diner. I realize that I’m a little late to the party as the restaurant was on No Reservations a few years back, but apparently the notoriety hasn’t changed a thing.
The Galley Diner is in an industrial part of Southie. The screen door is ripped and the exterior paint has seen better days. Inside, there’s a bar that faces the griddle/​kitchen and maybe four 4-​top tables. The stuff on the walls has probably been hanging there for years, decades maybe. It looks like a locals-​only joint –and to an extent, it is– but the staff is composed of some of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure of dining with.
The food is standard diner breakfast fare, cooked with master-​level skill by Paul, who’s been at it for decades. Are they going to blow you away with organic ingredients, a health-​conscious menu, and rooftop-​garden-​harvested herbs? Hell no. Is their food delicious, homemade, and cooked to exacting standards? Hell yes. Corned beef hash is what they’re known for, but Paul will carve ham right off the bone for you, fill an omelet to bursting with flavorful goodness, and he also makes a mean stack of pancakes.
It’s a greasy, homemade, excellent breakfast. Your coffee cup will stay full. The pancakes will remind you of your mom’s. You’ll shoot the breeze, or if you’re shy, you’ll listen to the breeze being shot between locals. If you’re looking for anything more in a diner, you’re sorely misguided and probably a snob. If you’re used to less, then pay a visit to The Galley Diner and allow them to raise your standards.
Also, while I don’t want to get in your business, it’s probably best to suggest that you keep your party size at 4 or less. There just isn’t room for more, and people will probably hate you.

Southie local dive breakfast diner. NOT the place if you’re trying to eat clean or healthy! Very small and a bit grungy. Staff was pretty friendly although you could hear the cook arguing with people in the back. If you’re not with a group of four plan on being forced to squish in at the bar. Place holds about 10 – 12 at the bar and has four tables for groups of four or five. Fine for a group of bros, but not the spot to impress on a brunch date.

My favorite diner in Boston.
I always get the Corned Beef Hash, 2 Eggs, Home Fries, Toast. That hash is just made with so much love!!! It is oh, so good and always something I could look forward to. It is evenly crispy all over, and mush inside. That grease makes it so much better too. The fries are also crispy and cannot complain anything there. I want to try other things on the menu, but I cannot seem to get away from the corned beef hash. So, can’t help you there except to just say try the corned beef hash.
They take cards now! Which is a plus! =) Service is great. Family owned and everyone there is nice and friendly. It’s a small and cozy place, but the vibe is very diner like.

Breakfast at the Galley Diner is now a solid yearly tradition. One that myself and my co-​workers look forward to.
The service, atmosphere here has not changed one bit. You feel like a family as you are warmly greeted and cups of hot coffee are placed before you with a smile.
What on the menu is good you ask? There is no way I could ever possibly answer that as it’s all good. But it’s the people that really sets Galley apart from the rest.
