Food is fine, but customer service is terrible. Now I understand why everyone gets carry out or delivery, they do a great job of making you feel uncomfortable while you eat because apparently the tables and chairs are just for show.

Don’t bother with a boring sandwich like the Ham and Cheese or the Smoked Turkey. I’m sure they’re fine, but you would be missing out on an opportunity to get a MUCH better option: the Rembrandt. It’s absolutely massive, and packed with fantastic ingredients like Pastrami and Corned Beef. In essence, it’s the kind of sandwich that you find in predominantly Jewish neighbourhoods like Brookline, except you’re paying a lot less and getting it in a neighbourhood that doesn’t specialize in these kinds of sandwiches. But if you’re not a fan of Eastern European-style sandwiches, or you’re not in the mood to eat a sandwich quite that large, you’re still in luck. The Prosciutto and Fresh Mozzarella Panini is also delicious and teeming with delicious and slightly pricier ingredients, without costing you a whole lot. Aside from those sandwiches, I’ve also had Amsterdam’s coffee(it’s good), however I haven’t had their famous soft-serve ice cream. Given its apparent popularity, there’s a very good choice that I’ll be back soon to try it.

Great for delivery– and their delivery service is free! I got the turkey and avocado sandwich, added lettuce, cucumber, and red onions, and requested it to be on untoasted focaccia bread. The sandwich was very large and I could only eat half in one setting. The bread was good and I’m glad I got the additional veggies because the cucumbers and red onions gave it a nice crunch with every bite. I also ordered a vanilla fro yo with mangos. The fro yo is very good-its not your typically tart yogurt but is very creamy and not overly sweet. I only wish that they added more mangos to my fro yo

The place was empty, food was mediocre, and cashier was disrespectful. Asked for hot sauce and lady gave me an exasperated look, brought the hot sauce and gave me a huffy and puffy«you’re welcome.»

Unbelievably disrespectful customer service. We waited 2 hours for our ice cream to arrive. We placed multiple calls to check on our order and were hung up on when we finally asked to cancel the order. 10 minutes later, our order arrived. We will never order from here again… No matter how heavenly the ice cream is.

Their sandwiches are good, the salads are fine, but the real reason I am here is for the ice cream. Holy crap. I moved away a year ago and think about flying across the country just to get ice cream from here. Best ice cream ever.

Stumbled in at noon on a Saturday after having walked by this place 100 times. My Tulip sandwich was delicious and my wife loved her chicken panini. Great sandwiches for less than 10 bucks.

They open later than some of the other café type locations, typically around 11am. Staff is really nice. Bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel is the best you’ll have in town! Recommend picking up or eating there.

This is a great place to go if you are coming from a funeral or are practicing a day of silence. No? You’re just hungry? Well turn around. You’ll be treated like a 2 year old during your entire lunch, being yelled at and shushed by the counter woman. You better believe your tip for the mediocre food is being mistaken for tax as these noise police berate you.

Order here fairly often and it’s usually decent food. However, avoid the rollups. The pita was stale and completely fell apart.

Just had a great sandwich and bowl of soup! I’ve reviews of customer service issues but I ordered through grub hub. Food was great, and prices very reasonable. I appreciate being stuffed to the gills for under $ 8

Not the greatest lunch experience I have had. Everyone is super nice, but the food was just blah. The prices are a little high, and it takes a long time even when you call to order pickup. It always takes 10 minutes longer than they tell you. I had a chicken caesar wrap, where the wrap itself was a little stale and the chicken was a little rubbery

Rude as all hell. Jesus christ, customer service isn’t that hard. Used to love this place, but never again. And yes, Lady, it was over an hour. No idea why Foodler doesn’t kick them off.

I like the food, however the dudes behind the counter are always in the weeds and my order is wrong half the time. Wish there was a better sandwich option in Southie…

had the chicken blt. nothing special about it other than it was huge! but I could have easily made it at home. I hated the fact that two old women were fascinated by me and could stop staring. I had to eat my average sandi on the go just to avoid them. old people scare me, when I get old I’m going to scare people 24⁄7.

Every time I call there not only is the wait time exceptionally long, but the attitude of the person who answers the phone is terrible. This will be my last time eating there, so lady who breathes deep when asked what type of bread you just lost a customer. You are very rude, btw you are a sandwich maker lady so stop being such a snob and guess what you do not belong in the people business. The food is good unfortunately not great but good

Best Grape Leaves that I’ve ever had. Dingy ambiance, with fake plastic plants, sticky table tops, disinterested gossiping ladies behind the counter. FLIES in the restaurant, during the winter?! Is this a Coffee House? Some shady looking«Russian Mail Order Bride types» were eyeing me suspiciously over their laptops. Then a toothless, scrunchy wearing woman, walks in and starts swearing about her white trash daughter who she had arrested again. This is an honest observation/experience.

The chicken salad is NOT good(The Windmill) — there is no semblance of chicken anywhere and it’s just a mouthful of mayo paste. I also asked for added avocado which I was charged for but they forgot it. I usually like this place, but this was a BAD decision today.

I wish I could give them less than 1 star. They deserve no stars. I’ve tried to forgive Amsterdam for their terrible, nasty woman who answers the phones, but I cannot. Multiple times over the past year, I have ordered large meals from Amsterdam for my coworkers. The awful disgruntled woman who answers the phone seems to think that her job is not to simply take my order and fill it, but that she gets paid to insult and demean her customers. You’d think she’d have realized by now that customers buying their food is the key to making them money. She doesn’t seem to get it. Six months ago, I ordered for my coworkers over the phone. I had no complaints about the interaction with this terrible woman until she interrupted my order. She told me that I couldn’t get a soup and sandwich combo with a panini. In the middle of her sharp tone barking corrections at me, I told her to forget the entire $ 50+ order and I hung up. Today, I was again forced to hang up in her face. I have since learned this beast’s name is TINA. My workplace submitted an online order. My order was kind of weird, so I called to confirm. She is again correcting me rudely, this time telling me that I placed an online order wrong. But she received it and is looking at it, telling me the place I put my orders was wrong. She adds, this’ll be extra, that’ll be extra… I told her that’d be fine, I just want a correct order. I had a feeling this was still going to get messed up, so I called again to double check. She rudely interjects that no, that’s not what I had requested. The order had already gone out, and I was forced to accept my delivered incorrect meal that I was charged extra for. The delivery woman did not speak much English, so she couldn’t help to resolve the problem, which is okay, because this is not her fault. She brought with her a copy of the online order receipt, which had items crossed out in black sharpie but not deducted from the total. I wrote on it and sent it back to her, after photocopying it for myself. I wrote to TINA to refund what she had blacked out, and to take back this wrong sandwich. Now, my only weapon against this dingus woman is for my entire workplace to never order from there again. I want her to see this review and change her stupid idiotic ways. She can’t run a business like that. Whoever the owners are need to be aware that their sales are being compromised by the witch who answers their phones. Remarkable that mine is the millionth review complaining strictly about the lack of customer service yet Amsterdam Café is still in business.

The people are insanely rude here. I’ve given this place 2 tries because the menu always looks good. The first time I ordered a sandwich the blonde lady said«Are you going to leave a tip?» I kid you not. So I felt very awkward and left 2 dollars and she rolled her eyes. This is a place where all you do is order what you want at the front desk. The second time I tried, I wanted to build my own sandwich. The other lady was rude as anything and said they could barely do anything I asked so I walked out.

For what it is – a cheap, non-chain, jack-of-all-trades restaurant with FREEDELIVERY — you can’t complain. My favorite belt-tightening snack is their blended ice cream. They have a machine with a massive rotary blender that will integrate any topping you can think of into the ice cream. Better than a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. And did I mention they will deliver it to your door for free?

I apologize for inconveniencing you with my business. The woman at the counter could not have been ruder. I simply ordered an iced espresso w three shots(it’s on the menu) and she rudely told me she doesn’t know what I am talking about and that this isn’t Dunkin Donuts. The much more pleasant barista chimed in that she is trained in the art of pouring espresso over ice and stepped in to rescue me. Overall just a very weird experience and I certainly will not be back. Stay in the back if you have zero customer service skills.
