Toscana Pizza & Pasta

Best pizza in town hands down. Family owned and operated, great family atmosphere. Brought my daughter with me to pick up a carry out order and he even brought her back into the kitchen and showed her how to make a proper pizza, made my little girls day. Food is excellent, best pizza I’ve had anywhere in Michiana. We frequent at least once a week now. Definitely must try.

Great pie and service. Not fancy for eating in, but carry out is fine. Generous toppings and wonderful taste! Lasagna is fantastic too.

Becoming one of my favorite restaurants in South Bend. Tried their sliced beef sandwich last night per recommendation. Phenomenal!

This place makes incredible pizza. I like all styles of pizza and am a serious pizza-​phile. The pizza style here is a Chicago thin-​crust style (not Chicago deep-​dish), with the bottom crust somewhat thin and crackery – crisper than the NY style. It’s cut tavern-​style into squares. The balance of elements in crust and toppings is perfection. The large margherita – the basic, simple test of a pizza house – was outstanding, and it was my initial take-​out experience.
For the dine-​in more recently, I saw a lot more, quite literally. With a group, there were three different pizzas plus an unbeatable lasagna and much better than average side salads (better because more generous with ingredients other than simply lettuce).
In addition, the attentiveness of the people at this genuine family shop is beyond anything I’ve experienced. When I arrived a bit before my friends, owner Michael introduced himself, his son, his wife, and then a further assistant. Then he took me on a tour of the kitchen (once he gathered that I was pretty interested in pizza and make my own in several styles). Not only was he a jovial delight – he’d make a perfect Chicago-​Italian Santa Claus – but I was impressed with their equipment and ingredients.
They use fresh mozzarella for the margherita, as should be. Their aged mozzarella cheese for other applications is a premium-​priced Grande brand, and instead of buying it pre-​shredded, they keep it in their fridge in large sealed blocks and run cheese as needed through a commercial extruder, so it isn’t shredded but instead «tubed,» ending up like a fat diced spaghetti noodle. That means their pizza and lasagna, etc., does not have those anti-​caking and anti-​molding agents used in pre-​shredded cheeses, so it melts (and reheats later) much better. They use a premium flour that is actually a kind of pastry flour (the low protein helping for thinner, crispier crusts). Michael even explained to me that he has used slightly different flours here and in Chicago just because of the effect of different water supplies. The man pays extravagant attention to food and to people.
Some readers will want to know, too, that they also have a separate workstation for gluten-​free cooking, and Michael is aware of celiac issues.
I count this place among a few other pizza venues in the region that I truly value: Giannettos (for Chicago deep dish, a wholly different animal); Stop 50 in Michigan City, MI, and Venturi in Goshen, IN (both of which do Neapolitan-​style, in wood-​fired ovens). And happily, this place is not so far away from me.

This is my go-​to Italian restaurant in South Bend. I usually order the Chicken Parm entrée or penne with meatballs, and they never disappoint. I’ve also had the chicken parm sandwich and mozz sticks, both were good. My roommate ordered the breaded mushrooms once and loved them. Plus, there is a 20% discount for students.
There isn’t a ton of options on the menu, but Toscana knows what it does well: pizza and classic Italian dishes. Service is friendly for takeout, although I’ve never actually eaten in the dining room.
Overall, five stars.

Picked this placed because of the closeness to Notre Dame Stadium after the game. Let me tell you, this place is well worth it. The pizza was fantastic. Ordered the Margherita, added sausage & pepperoni. It was awesome and a medium was perfect size for two people. The crust was made perfectly. I can’t remember when I’ve had a better crust on a pizza. The way the mozzarella was placed on each piece was perfect. We didn’t get any entrees, but the table next to us did. The spaghetti looked amazing and was plentiful. I’d go back to Toscana whenever I am in the South Bend area. The staff was courteous and I really like how the ordering process works, place your order and sit down. They bring out the food to you. Only suggestion, may want to place a number on the table, so if it gets packed, the server knows what table to bring the food too!

Bring your appetite and a good mood because Toscano is full of flavor and personality. Menu is just the right size with all the right food. My son, a Jr at ND is a regular and took his grandmother and I there couple weeks back. Thin crust pizza, chic parm and cheesy bread. Simple but WOW. Great job Mike. We will be back.

Tonight me and a buddy were out in south bend from out of town, saw this on Unilocal and figured we’d give it a try. Had a little trouble finding it due to google maps being incorrect but besides the fact, we pulled up, the building was kind of smaller, we debated going in. We walked in and talked to a customer waiting for his order and he told us how amazing the food was and that he ordered at least once a week. We met Mike and his wife and they were such nice and cool people! We ordered a few large pizzas so we would have left overs and they were absolutely delicious. Had GCB appetizer and it as well was so good. The sauce on the pizza was just so full of flavor, you could tell they didn’t crap open a can of sauce and put it on the pizza. EVERYTHING was HOT and fresh, my favorite topping on the pizza was the sausage, the taste and the different sizes showed you it was fresh cut and not some average pizza sausage. Overall pizza and service was great and if I lived in south bend I would file for bank and gain a lot of weight! Outstanding pizza guys thanks! See you sometime soon! Wonderful family business. Everyone there is fantastic. The food is so fresh and amazing. I love this place.

Mike and his wife run a great locally owned pizza shop. Love the homemade cracker crust and sauce is perfect. Try the homemade meatballs too. They are to die for. Nice people who you want to give business to.

Great choice for gluten free pizza and salads. Always friendly, prompt and clean. Everyone is so personable! I say «Go Irish and Belles!» My partner says «Go Buckeyes!»

Best pizza in town. AMAZING service. I loved the crispy crust and the fresh ingredients. This will be my new go to spot for pizza!!! Excited to try the pasta next time. Oh and the romano chips are out of this world!!!

I just recently got to know this place. Incredibly good food! Incredibly nice ownership and staff. It may take some time to get your food but what I’ve found is that it’s because they want to make it right for you. Putting out a mediocre product is not on their agenda. Be patient. It’s worth it.

Gotten pizza here twice now. The first time got the cheese pizza it was super good, though I really wanted their white sauce pizza but «my uncle forgot to make it for today» Though disappointed, I was super excited to find out they make their own white sauce, plus they gave us a free soda. 2^nd time there, got the white sauce pizza. Sauce and toppings were spot on, the crust was a little too crispy, but it soften up in the fridge making a super good breakfast :). will be ordering again

We have been fans of Toscana since they moved to their Ironwood location,
The pizza is incredible, the crust has a nice crisp snap… sauce isnt super acidic and has a nice deep tomato flavor.
Mike the owner has a real eye for ingredients and uses great quality cheese and sausage… i have never had a bad pizza experience at Toscana, and the Italian Beef is really good as well, they use a Gonella roll, good quality giardiniera mix on top… the beef is tender and flavorful not dry at all.
The fried parmesan potatoes are awesome. but get them when you dine in. They dont travel well.

Spent Easter weekend with my family visiting my grandmother. Wanted to order pizza and wanted to try something other than Barnaby’s.
This place came up on our Unilocal search and the reviews were promising.
Toscana didn’t disappoint. The only downfall was that my GPS told me it was located on the wrong side of the street.
Pizzas were just coming out of the oven as I walked up. The owners were beyond friendly– any place that offers me a ‘God bless you’ is somewhere that already has my business.
The pizzas rocked. Crispy cracker-​like thin crust, awesome sauce and fresh ingredients. We got a sausage pizza, cheese pizza and veggie– none disappointed.
I look forward to trying some thing else on my next return!

I LOVE Toscano’s! We are so lucky to be in walking distance to it! Their crust is yummy and we love the margherita pizza. I am always so surprised that they are never very busy.

First of all some of the nicest owners, I have ever met. Got a topping wrong on half of our pizza, and offered to make a new personal sized pizza for the person who’s half was wrong. They also offered us complimentary beverages and a complimentary appetizer cheesy bread for being a first time customer. We ordered appetizer mozzarella sticks which were done to perfection, the marinara dipping sauce was excellent. The pizza was good, their known for Chicago style thin crust which basically means the toppings are under the cheese. The pizza was very good. I also ordered an Italian beef. This was definitely not the best, I have had just average. Recommended using more vegetables with hot pepper sauce, and maybe add a little vinegar. The sandwich was a little bland. I would definitely come back for the pizza and appetizers.
