Description

Specialties

Hand crafted, on site produced craft beers and made from scratch, locally sourced culinary delights.

Our mission is to «Build a stronger community, one brew at a time.» That means the community of brewers, of craft beer drinkers, of foodies, of local food producers, and of course, South Bend. We plan to celebrate and support South Bend, honoring its long heritage of brewing and food producing by making great beer and backing it up with locally sourced food. Sustainability is hard at work in South Bend and it’s a core tenet for us. Adaptive reuse is a philosophy we’re embracing fully and you’ll see it throughout our pub. We are fiercely proud of this city and it is an honor to have it as part of our name and be part of its renaissance.

History

Established in 2013.

Starting as a popup shop in Downtown South Bend in November of 2012, South Bend Brew Werks officially began as a Homebrew Supply Store in January of 2013. Our plan was to create a hybrid homebrew and brewpub space but, alas, our storefront was too small so we sold off the homebrew equipment to the store manager. He started a homebrew business just up the street so our customers were still taken care of and we opened our Brewery Restaurant in September of 2014!

Meet the Business Owner

Andrew E.

Business Owner

A self-described nomad, Andrew Elegante, known locally as Drew, has lived in Alabama, Texas, Utah and now Indiana. His travels around the world have afforded him a global perspective that he brings to everything he does. After attending the University of Utah, Drew used his Computer Science degree for 9 years as a software engineer in the education, financial services, and healthcare sectors. Convinced that he wanted to pursue something bigger, he attended the University of Notre Dame and received his MBA (’12). Seeing significant opportunity to participate in the revitalization of South Bend, Drew stayed after graduation and reopened the historic State Theater in South Bend. After two hard years of work Drew decided to leave the theater to focus on South Bend Brew Werks.
