I like this place! It’s super casual and low-key. The corn-beef hash was good, but the Denver omelette was one of the best I’ve had… substantial and flavorful. Great coffee, too. Try it!

Horrible experiance. Sat down and was ignored by staff while they served everyone around us. Ignored in the sense they wouldn’t serve us, but we got plenty of «looks» while sitting. When we decided to leave a waitress finally asked if we had been helped. When we said no she told us «normally people come through the front door for service». I guess management should take down the back entrance signs then. Left and won’t be back.

Recently enjoyed the polenta dish with spinach, mushrooms and a couple of eggs on the top. Cheerful servers, happy regulars. Excited to return, it’s nice to stumble into a keeper.

The breakfast salad is genius and delicious! 2 eggs on a bed of spring salad with red onions, beans veggies and topped with salsa. It’s the perfect breakfast!

Had breakfast here on valentine’s day. There was a short wait which wasn’t bad, we ended up at the counter. SO had the western scramble, I had the Greek omelet and we shared aside of biscuits and gravy. There are specials written on the wall that I saw after we ordered. The food took a really long time to come, once it came out looked really good. My omelet was well made, the ingredients are fresh but it was just OK. My partners scramble had alot of things that should have made it wow, sadly there was no wow. The biscuits and gravy were bland too, again no wow. The biscuits were super cake like. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. Think we’ll try someplace else next time.

I went with a party of 4. We are from out of town and we went here because it had good reviews. First it took a very long time to receive our food. Everyone else’s food seemed decent but mine. I ordered the pancake special. The pancakes and bacon were burnt. IHOP pancakes would have tasted better. I’ve been to way better diners this was not worth it.

Love this place for breakfast, going to miss it when I move! Try the Pesto Papas… I add avocado to mine — delish! Comes with biscuits which are super yummy, soft, and warm. The only small thing I can complain about is the price for a «large» OJ. It’s a standard small cup of OJ, nothing large about it at all yet it’s 5 bucks with no refills. Wah :/ Great, smiley staff and yumm yummy food. Like I said, love it!

Pros: My scramble was cooked reasonably well, albeit rather tasteless. Doctored with pepper and hot sauce, however, it tasted decent. Cons: Fruit cup was pretty awful, with melon pieces so unripe they were crunchy and had no taste. Toast was cheap sliced bread. Service was slow and inattentive at times, was difficult to get our check. Worst: Most disgusting bathroom in Soquel, door is sticky to the touch, fixtures and even walls visibly dirty. Ew.

Long wait on a Saturday, and slightly inattentive/shortstaffed(?) waitstaff, but GREAT food and totally worth it! The servers were friendly, though — and they tried to accommodate our party of 8 as best they could — they tried everything they could to get us to sit together, which was nice of them. Only slight complaints are that when we were seated, we didn’t get menus — I had to ask for them after waiting a few minutes, and that was after we waited about 45 – 60 minutes for a table to begin with. Also, the food took forever, but again, being a server myself, I understand a busy Saturday morning at a breakfast place, so it’s understandable. One other concern is that the half & half on the table wasn’t chilled, and it had been sitting there for quite a while – it was room temperature, so I had to ask for new cream. It obviously needs to be kept cold, otherwise it will accumulate bacteria and make people sick. That was the thing that put me off the most — you can’t risk making people sick by not practicing the proper food handling procedures. Other than that, the coffee was delicious, as was my turkey/avocado/tomato scramble, the homefries, and zucchini muffin! Everyone in our party loved their breakfast. I tried a bite of my nephew’s pancake which was so good and fluffy. They also offer real maple syrup, which is a plus. One note is that the little space is not good for big groups — don’t go there with more than 5 – 6 people, unless you want to wait a long time. Overall, though, friendly servers, awesome food, & wonderful place!

I went here for breakfast today because my boyfriend was craving biscuits and gravy. I read other Unilocal reviews and decided to try this lil hole in the wall. I ordered the French Toast Special, but i substituted the egg for french fries. :) My bf had 2 eggs, home fries, and sausages with biscuits and gravy. The potatoes were OK, they couldve been toasted at least. This is definitely not a greasy spoon, but its a cheap eat and somewhat tasty to try at least once. I wont come here again though. My search continues for the best breakfast. Other info about trip: It appeared to be the owner working in the back with the other cooks which was very reassuring! It is a small place so there may be a 10min wait.

Worth the wait! We searched hi and low for a good breakfast joint and we knew we would need to avoid the main hub of Santa Cruz downtown on a Sunday morning. We stumbled across this place, thanks to Unilocal!and quickly found out why its so highly rated. First off, parking blows, so just be aware of that. There is no place for you or the other 20 people waiting to be seated can stay dry if its drizzling outside. Come prepared. But the food and service was fantastic. The price was right also. I ordered the hot chocolate and man they delivered with the whipped cream! I cannot remember for the life of me what I ordered, a mexican scramble of some sort, sorry. But it was great! The hubby loved what he got as well and I saw mostly licked clean plates headed back to the kitchen the whole time we were there. Definitely a place you have to check out!

Rise and shine Santa Cruz! Sunrise Café has the coffee on and is waiting to make you a smashing breakfast! While visiting the inlaws they brought us to a fabulous little Mexican joint for dinner. Upon walking out of the Mexican joint Pops inlaw points two doors down and tells us that is where we are going for breakfast tomorrow. I have to admit I was skeptical because honestly, from the outside it was nothing special. I am glad I was wrong. Showed up around 9 on a Saturday morning and there was a full house. We sat out front on a bench and waited 10 mins and we were seated. Coffee came immediately and was hot and fresh. I ordered the asparagus scramble. Scrambled eggs with mushroom, onion, cheese and of course asparagus. It came with an order of home fries(the only thing I didn’t really enjoy) and your choice of toast. I substituted one pancake for my toast and ordered a side of Hollandaise sauce on the side. The hubbs ordered the corned beef hash(his standard on which to judge any breakfast spot) and loved it. I even snuck a bite or two of his. Bottom line: For a great little breakfast joint check out Sunrise café.

If you want a great authentic breakast at a reasonable price… come on in. Don’t let the original décor sway you into thinking this place may not be good… trust the locals, they are never wrong. My test for breakast joints is always the corned beef hash. The menu states homemade and it was. The corned beef was finished crispy on the table top… just the way I enjoy it. Potatoes or hash, whichever you like to call were seasoned perfectly and not too hard, large or soft. Fresh green onion which perfected the plate. Did I mention I also ordered 2 eggs over medium? Did I mention they were also cooked correctly? They were. Highly recommened if you like good breakfasts in an original diner off the beaten path.

Everything you would expect from a small town breakfast café. Great décor, lots of available parking(always a big plus) in front and in back. Friendly and accommodating wait staff. Food was excellent and I would recommend the smoked salmon scramble. If you are a fan of hash browns be aware they only serve homefries, but their homemade salsa makes up for the limited potato options. Not the best option for parties of 6 or more as seating is limited.

Excellent stop for breakfast. Just go. It has a slightly run down diner feel, but it is not a dump. The scrambles were amazing. I actually did a double take because I could not believe how good it tasted. The Sunday scramble with chorizo was a winner. Large portion. Wife really liked the veggie omlet. Finding a decent breakfast spot with unique menu items which are well prepared is remarkable. Hence my just go and try it recommendation. Can be busy, but worth the wait.
