I have been participating in a monthly drumming group with Jim for several months now, and it is one of the highlights of my month. Jim is welcoming to all, and sets a rhythm that is easy to get into the groove with, yet allows for lots of individual variation. He encourages individual expression, yet the synchronization within the group is never lost. He has lots of extra drums, shekare, etc. on hand, so it’s possible to switch off if one feels like it. I have friends in the group, which adds to the fun. If I arrive stressed and tired, I leave happy and uplifted. And the price is so reasonable!!!

I was very happy to finally find Jim & his drumming circles when I recently moved to Santa Cruz. I had seen him regularly at the Rhythm Festival held every year up in Seattle. He’s a great facilitator & I look forward to joining in some great grooves every time I attend an event. All levels are welcome & everyone enjoys themselves immensely!

I have been studying with Jim for over two years. He is a great teacher. His teaching is articulate, encouraging, relaxed, always focusing on good form, and interested in what his students are observing. If I have a question, I have never felt like it is «too dumb to ask». Jim has a presence I have never observed with other teachers or leaders of drum circles. He is always patient, enthusiastic, respectful, and very passionate about his craft, of which he is a true master. He has a real sense of community and is always willing and happy to share the power and fun of playing drums, whether it be to children, adults, veterans, or the elderly.

Jim is a master teacher. He knows the drum from such a deep place of respect and passion. I love the way he teaches it is fun and serious. He does not just teach patterns, he teaches how to play the instruments. I highly recommend Jim he is not only a master teacher he is also a master player.
