Sonora Inn

A few family members of mine decided to take our little ones to the snow. We ended up making reservations a night before so that we can get their earlier than driving up from Los Banos. We ended up checking in close to midnight without any problems. My wife and I liked the old charm it had. The next morning we checked out. As we were doing so, the guy in the front asked where we where headed to. I told them Dodge Ridge. After seeing all the small children we had (4 couples, 8 children) he recommended Leland High Sierra Snow Park. He said that because of how small our kids are, they would have more fun their than Dodge Ridge, and he was right. I am definitely coming back once my wife and I have a chance.

I called them to reserve a room, a price was established, which included taxes etc… However, once I checked-​in the price was changed and was now $ 10 more. The man at the front desk argued with me about it, he was very condescending. No refrigerators and the ice machine is out side on the first floor, while all the rooms are on the second. The rooms are average, bathrooms were really outdated and very half ass. The room smelled like the 1800’s, my wife constantly had a head ache. The continental breakfast was ok at best. The hotel is in a nice part of down town, which explains why it’s not out of business. I will NEVER go back. Very disappointed I wasting $ 90.

This may have been one of the most comfortable hotels I’ve ever stayed at. It was so quiet. The staff is quiet and nice. The continental breakfast was perfect. Everything fresh. I am staying here so I could ski this weekend and not have to drive back to Stockton. For the price I will absolutely do it a few weekends a month. Love this place and will miss the comfortable bed.

Great location in downtown sonara, the place has personality, close to restaurants but elevator was out of service and water pressure in room 248 was very low in the shower and our room had a lot of traffic noise.

My family of three took a one night trip to Sonora. We love staying at older hotels and knew what to expect from a 100+ year old building. We didn’t experience any hot water issues, as others have stated. Our room was in the back on the second floor. It was a smaller room, but we had only booked about a week in advance. We will schedule further in advance next time to secure one of the larger rooms. The bed was very soft, but if one person moved, the whole bed moved, guess that’s what it was like back then. All of the staff that we encountered were very nice and helpful. The location is perfect if you want to stroll up and down the main street of shops, restaurants, and bars, or take a short drive to any of the nearby attractions like Columbia State Park or the Railtown State Park (check hours on this, train rides very limited in winter). We spent Saturday at the pool, and then visited the shops. My daughter enjoyed the second floor pool, and we made sure to get ‘pool’ towels from the front desk. The elevator is also very unique, but my daughter (7) was a little spooked by it the first few times. If you want a bland, boring hotel, stay somewhere else. If you want charming and historic, stay at The Sonora Inn. We are heading back soon.

This is a pretty neat hotel very historic lots of stories behind a great location. Despite trip advisor reviews they do have a hair dryer and it does work and the people are very friendly that work here very reasonably priced too.

We were sooo impressed with this Historical Hotel Sonora Inn. For the looks of the hotel we thought was goi g to be very expensive but we were shocked with the price .In the middle of the heart of old town Sonora. Great service and beautiful hotel. We will definitely come back

My daughter and I stayed up on the 3^rd floor of the Historic Sonora Inn for a couple of nights while visiting Columbia & Sonora. We had a wonderful time at the Inn. The quaint picturesque charm made it feel like home away from home for us both. A great place to rest your head on a short over night or longer visit to Sonora. The hotel staff demonstrated outstanding superior quality of attentiveness and care to see we were comfortable and that we had what we needed in our room during our stay. The Inn includes free WIFI in every room, which is very strong even on the third floor. The cable tv channels offer something for everyone to watch. Every room has a phone and coffee maker. There is a fridge and microwave in the dinning room next to the front desk. Guest can use them if needed. The Inn offers a «simple quick breakfast». Complimentary breakfast offers 2 types of cereal, milk, toast, bagels, Pop-​tarts, fruit, hard boiled eggs, Eggo Waffles, muffins, danishes, orange Juice and coffee. Syrup, butter, jelly and cream cheese as well. The elevator was shut down while maintenance is waiting for parts. The maid service was very attentive in assisting guests with carrying ALL luggage up the stairs to the 2^nd and 3^rd floor guest rooms. Our room seemed to be cleaned and serviced with clean towels and linens each day. The two trash baskets were emptied as well everyday. The pool is not heated, not even with a solar cover. It was very cold to me. My daughter and I were able to acclimate and enjoy the 2^nd floor roof top pool. There is a nice area off the pool where one can sit and relax alone or with friends at tables. The Inn did except my AAA discount. They were very accommodating to my request for early check-​in. There are quite a few great restaurants and shops within walking distance of the Inn. Save Mart is just a short 3 minuet walk away. The parking lot is shared with Roadway Inn. This made it hard to get a parking spot on Saturday night. We look forward to our next visit! KUDOS! Our stay at the historic Sonora inn was a very nice stay the room was very charming, the staff was very helpful & friendly, very clean. it’s been renovated but had to stay in the historic status. The historic elivator was not working so we had to use the stairs. The hotel is right on historic downtown sonora strip, & It’s a short drive to Jamestown & Columbia state park. Overall it’s was a great stay & would again for sure!

This Hotel charged my 79 year old mother, who was an Evacuee from the Butte Fire in Calaveras County, $ 150.00 for ONE NIGHT in their MOTEL!
SHAME ON THEM for price gouging!

Sehr schönes Hotel im noblen Stil der 20iger Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts, scheinbar frisch renoviert und zentral gelegen. Das Zimmer war klein, aber stilvoll und die Betten sehr komfortabel. Die junge Frau am Empfang ein wahres Schmuckstück von Hilfsbereitschaft. Wir hatten einen angenehmen Aufenthalt und würden jederzeit wieder her kommen.

3 stars is being a bit generous. I only give it this many stars because of how quaint it is.
Beautiful lobby and interior. The service is however, much to be desired for. The first day, housekeeping did not make our beds, only left towels. The second day, made bed, no towels, The third day, they never came at all and I had to call around 5 pm so they could take out our trash. The pool is pretty chilly. My husband was bit by something, hopefully not a bedbug, maybe a flea? The complemetary breakfast is horrible, packaged danishes and horrible coffee. I did love being in downtown Sonora, as it is a really cute area. I’ll never stay at this hotel again. Way overpriced for what you get.

I’m sorry I have to do this… but I hope this helps to make this place better.
In their website, they mislead people into thinking that the hotel was renovated in 2012. Please check out my pics of room 234.
Ice machine is outside. Everything is grimy. Carpets are stained.
Matress, however, was comfortable.

I think my expectations of restored were not theirs. The lady at the front desk was helpful in that our room wasn’t ready because we were early, and got another one that was made up for us. Other than that, we didn’t love the hotel itself. It was pretty but not very accomodating. There was no closet, and thus no room for our luggage. The bedroom literally only had enough space to walk around the bed, and the living area was so full of furniture we had to move a chair and throw our luggage in the corner. The air conditioning would shut off after so long and then you had to wait to turn it back on, which was awful since we were on the 3^rd floor in summer. Just getting warm water to the shower took 15 minutes. I had given up and was taking a cold shower (a quick one!) When the hot water finally kicked in. It was conveniently located and had a wonderful restaurant attached, and that was the highlight of the stay.

Definitely an old hotel. «Vintage» and «antique» are just terms for old. But given the option between this one and the one across the street this one was ok. The floors creaked and the old timey air conditioning was loud as hell. Good thing my family and I were exhausted by the time we got back from Yosemite every night or else I would be waking everyone up every time I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. And breakfast is… basics. Boiled eggs, bagels, english muffins. Simple.
Minus 1 star too for saying on the site that it’s close to Yosemite, definitely not. It’s 1.5−2 hours away… one way.

Avoid room 215! We are in a draught and it takes, really we timed it, 10 minutes to get hot water. This was at 5pm, so not peak hours. We even called the front desk about the lack of hot water and they told us to just let it run. Shameful.
Plus the room was located right next to the pool and patio. The room has an extra door with a 1″ gap which let in light and you could clearly hear conversations. We had to put a towel under the gap to stop some of the light, but it did nothing for the noise.
We had a spill and asked for a change of sheets and was ignored for the 3 days we were there.
Horrible customer service. When checking out we expressed our dissatisfied stay and was told «I’m sorry, would you like to write it down for the manager?» So the person behind the desk can’t help me? The manager doesn’t have a phone? Why do I need to take the time to write it down? Not helpful in any way.
Great location but expensive for a horrible experience. There are other places to stay close to downtown. Avoid Sonora Inn.

Love this place. Great service at the front desk. I did stay in room 240 and it faced Stockton Ave. very loud all night long. If you are a light sleeper ask for rooms away from this street. Other than that, my stay was a delight.

This is an old hotel that has been renovated and they have worked to preserve the historic feel. The bed was very comfortable and the room simple but adequate. The price was fairly reasonable, and the location convenient.
Unfortunately the window heating and air unit for our room was old and set off the room smoke alarm in the middle of the night the first night we were there, so sleep was interrupted. The woman who managed the hotel during the day had an «I don’t care» attitude, which didn’t give us confidence the problem would be resolved, and she didn’t offer to change our room or compensate us in any way. Fortunately the owner seemed to care about our comfort and checked out the unit himself before we retired the second night, so that night was uneventful.
Note: The «breakfast» that is included consists of instant oatmeal, cold cereal, bread or English muffins you can toast yourself, and coffee, tea, and milk. If breakfast is an important meal for you, I would recommend you plan to eat elsewhere.

The price for a king bedroom was very reasonable. The hotel is an antique, but it’s completely restored. The pillows were fluffy. The antique elevator was fun to use. The entire room was perfectly decorated. They had a Christmas tree in the downstairs lounge. We would stay here again!

Wonderful! Historic, cute lobby, great service, great breakfast and only $ 109! It’s in the heart of everything, all the antique stores and fun architecture. Mining country and culture. 1850s all the way. Going back in time here… love it. Room was old fashioned but very clean.

Beautiful hotel, perfect location. Staff, especially Mac, are accommodating and the hospitality is top notch. Quiet, comfortable. The 2^nd floor patio and pool are very nice, with great views. The best restaurants, bars, and shops are right outside the front door and to top it off, the rates are low.
Highly recommended.
