These guys are top notch. Have used them before in the past and when it came time to move my grandparents I knew who to call. Tim, the owner, was out within a day to do an estamite. The crew and truck showed up right on time to get us moved. They guys were so paitent with my grandma and when she changed her mind about where she wanted them to place something, or even move something an inch they never rolled their eyes or anything. Just did excatally what she asked of them. Even made a pit stop at a consignment store to drop off items my grandma wanted to sell. Very professional. Took great care of all the items. Nothing got broken dinged or scrached. Would use these guys again and again… Thanks Tim :)

Update 11/25…well, it’s been four months since the move and still no resolution from Tim Brown and Affordable Moving & Storage.
Phone calls not returned and no reply to emails Deserves a negative star rating, but Unilocal does not allow.
Compensation for damages will obviously not occur, nor be addressed. SO unprofessional… unlike any business dealings I have ever had in the Mother Lode.

Never go with this company. They cost three times more than any other company I have used. Worst customer service I have ever received. I am appalled by their lame excuses as to why they can’t set appointment dates because of car problems. Who has car problems for over a month and can’t move someone or set an appointment? What does a car problem have to do with moving somone?
Go with Sonora Moving Company. Best moving company I have ever used!!!

We hired this company for a local move in the foothills. Aside from eventually getting some of our stuff from our old place to our new place, there was nothing good about this experience. If you’re moving to or from the Mother Lode, I would highly recommend spending a little extra money and getting a better mover from Sacramento or Stockton or someplace else.
A week or so prior to our move, someone from Affordable came to our place to look at what was to be moved and give us an estimate. On the estimate, he noted we had around 50 – 60 boxes. He also noted things like a bicycle, floor lamps, a picnic table and chairs, etc. He also noted that because of the grade of our driveway, the truck would have to park on the street for the loading.
On the day of the move, two kids who appeared to be in their late teens or early twenties showed up an hour and a half after the time we were told they would be there. They tried to back the truck up our driveway, apparently not seeing «street load» on the paperwork, and wound up getting the moving van stuck. I had to push their van with my pickup to get them unstuck.
They looked around the house, and said there was a lot more there than they were expecting. I told them that there’s nothing more here than was there last week, when we got an estimate from another one of their employees. They then told me they only got one page of the estimate, and it wasn’t the one that said how many boxes there were.
They started moving things into the van; they seemed to move in two speeds: ‘slow’ and ‘stop’. The entire move was supposed to take 7 hours: 4 for the load and 3 for the unload. They did not finish loading the van until about hour 8. Around this time, they also started telling me that I would be on the hook for the extra hours worked.
At one point during the load, the movers asked me if I had any tools. I had to dig up a socket set and some screwdrivers because they did not have ANY tools at all, and could not take apart our bed without any. When I got the tools, they were nowhere to be found (because they were on another break), and I wound up disassembling the bed myself. They didn’t bring any plastic bags for the mattresses (which were listed on the estimate paperwork), and wound up dragging the mattresses one side down the driveway, getting them filthy. They used my tools to take apart the kitchen table, leaving the bolts, washers and nuts sitting loose on the kitchen counter. Nobody said anything to me about them; I just happened to see them there several hours after the table was taken apart and loaded.
As they finished putting things in the truck, they told me they weren’t going to have enough room for everything, and I should start picking out what was going to stay and what was going to go. I looked in the back of their truck and saw plenty of room for everything, but they didn’t want to load anymore. So they left a bunch of boxes, the floor lamps, a bicycle… you know, the things that were listed on the estimate sheet.
The unloading at the new place did go quickly… because they just piled everything into one room. Boxes marked ‘kitchen’ went into the spare bedroom. Boxes marked ‘bathroom’ went into the spare bedroom. Boxes marked ‘garage’ were taken through the garage, and left in the spare bedroom. None of the furniture was put back together. When I asked about the kitchen table, one of the guys said «oh yeah, we put the bolts and stuff on the counter in the old place.» I’m glad I noticed them and grabbed them.
As they wrapped up the unloading, one of them told us he needed our credit card number for the move, and told us the total would be several hundred dollars more than what the estimate was. The paperwork on the estimate stated the total could not be above a certain percentage of what the estimate was, and this total was well above that figure. We would not give them our credit card number, and instead gave him a check for that amount. We called the owner of the business on the following Monday. After a lot of back-​and-​forth, he finally made good on the over-​charging. But it would have been better not to have gone through that in the first place.
The next day, I spent the entire day making a bunch of trips back and forth between our old place and our new place, moving the things I paid them to move, but they did not move.

We’ve used Affordable 4 or 5 times, always with superior support and a great team. This time we needed a short haul to move the display fixtures to our new store. The guys were on time, efficient, took great care to not ding anything up and moved quickly. They were careful NOT to block any traffic in town (an issue with many other companies there) and helped us set up as well. The cost was very reasonable.
We would never use anyone else.

Use at your own risk, the guys who move are great but the packers were drinking on their lunchbreak and we were told one price and then held ransome for over double what we were PROMISED it would stay at. They would not deliver until payment was made in full… who has an extra $ 9,000 lying around? Not us. The Gen. Manager lies through his teeth… beware. Also the cummunication between one crew and the next and the main office was nil. We were having 2 trucks deliver to two different places not far from each other, so we were told one truck in each spot at the same time to reduce (basically split the crew in 2) the traffic in the driveway. Well the driver told us they NEVER split up the crews. All around nightmare and very sad about the whole thing… Oh and did I mention one of their «employees» came back late at night and stole some valuables off the premises? Not cool. And who packs an OPENED bag of polymere grout in with knitting supplies and then turns the box upside down? Can you say «Ruined»?

These guys are great. We had a family emergency and needed a truck in Las Vegas the next day. I spoke to the owner who wasted no time in rerouting a truck on its way back to Sonora. They arrived in Vegas at 10 am were loaded by 1 pm and my family was home safe by the next day. I would hire them again and intend to use them for all of our moving needs.

DO NOT use these movers!!! Untrustworthy, unprofessional, unpredictable!!! Safe yourself the hassle, time & money!!!

They moved me from Sonora to Kenwood. Movers did a good job, except they damaged my new refrigerator. They needed to take the refrigerator doors off to get the refrigerator out of my kitchen. So, they removed the doors, but didn’t know how to disconnect the water line. They left the waterline connected and balanced the door on top of the refrigerator. Of course, the door fell off and snapped the water line. Now the company owner/​manager refuses to pay to have it fixed. I would stay away from this company. It seems to have the attitude of «Move at your own risk».

I moved from Sonora, CA to Brookings, OR. After getting bids from several different movers, I decided to choose Affordable because they were small, local, and right down the street from the storage garage where my stuff was being stored. They were very good about communicating with me leading up to the move. They were willing to pack the van and clean up the storage garage without me being in Sonora, which was really great. They packed everything with great care and absolutely nothing got damaged at all during the long trip up here. Two reasons why I didn’t give them 5 stars. First, I’d told them that it takes about 11 hours to drive from Sonora to Brookings. They told the driver that it would take 8 hours. The poor man had to drive the whole way in one very long day! He took Hwy 101 up, rather than I-​5, so it was much slower than necessary, too. Also, I had emailed detailed directions to Affordable as to how to find my house. It’s a very difficult place to find. They did not give the directions to the driver, so he called me from town and I had to go meet him and pilot him up here. I think they should be a bit more careful about communicating things to the driver, especially when they are getting first-​hand information from someone who knows the route, the drive time, and the directions. It could have made things a lot easier for the driver. Anyway, overall, they were great and I’d use them again. The driver was a real gem… cheerful, hard working, careful, and uncomplaining.

Affordable Moving is awesome! My mother moved from Sonora, CA to San Jose, CA this past Saturday and everything went smoothly. The two young men who did the moving worked very hard and did a great job at protecting the furniture and her belongings. I believe there names were Jason and Chris. Awesome young men!
