Sonoma Valley Hospital

The doctors and nurses were wonderful when I came into emergency on Easter afternoon. However, the woman at the front desk came and made me leave the room because she said that I had been discharged and I needed to register up front. I did not get any discharge papers or instructions. Had to call back Monday for instructions. She should have been reprimanded at the least.

Amazing team! Made us feel confident and comfortable. Extra steps and care in a «life interrupted day». Thank you for your professionalism and compassion. Follow-​up was a surprise, nice surprise.

I was visiting from out of town and suspected I was coming down with shingles. Since I was visiting a family that had small children I wanted to know for sure. I discovered there was not a clinic that would see me nor a single doctor in town. Very friendly Sonoma (not)
Finally, with no other options, went to the ER. I didn’t have proof of insurance with me at the time so I said I would pay cash. They had me pay $ 200 and said they would refund any left over. I then got a bill for $ 2147.00 with an additional bill for the doctor @ $ 369. I have asked for and never received some sort of itemization on how they could possibly charge that much for me to be in a room for 10 min and have a doctor take one look and confirm what I already knew.
Don’t even get me started on the eye roll I got from the doctor when I told him I was using essential oils to treat myself so far. Plus he gave me inaccurate info on the contagiousness.

I had eye surgery done at this hospital last week and was very impressed with the hospital and the staff. I wish I could remember the names of everyone who helped me because they were all so great. A special thanks to two nurses, Savanna and Linda. They were not only competent and professional, they were kind and compassionate and I received the best of care. I am glad I had my surgery there.

I dislike this hospital. I’m tired of going in and them giving me the wrong diagnosis. A family friend goes in has abdominal pain and they send him away when he had something seriously wrong. The doctors here aren’t trained well. When you go in to the ER, you need blood work, temperature checked, and blood pressure. They do no do that. When I go to Novato, because of stomach pain they test for everything, even have me do a CT scan, which found the problem. I think Sutter should move in and fix the problems they are having.

I had to have a procedure done here. The staff has been understanding and caring from the front door onward. They are very sensitive to your needs and treat you with dignity and respect! During the whole process they talked me through what was happening and asked how I was doing.

Today I went in to Sonoma valley hospital for some routine tests. It was my very first visit. I am impressed. Very friendly, helpful staff. Place is very modern, clean and cheerful. And very efficient, I am a fan!

I have always had the best service at Sonoma Valley Hospital. I gave birth to my daughter, which ended up being an emergency c-​section in the middle of the night and the staff was amazing. My daughter ended up having to be transferred to another hospital and the doctors and nursing staff were so fantastic on keeping me updated, calm, and informed.
My daughter has since visited the ER numerous times for stitches, high fevers, sprains, etc and the ER staff has always been amazing. They are so good with children and freaked out parents as well!
Even when I go to get blood work done at the hospital, the staff is friendly, quick, and attentive. I am so glad that we were able to keep our hospital in Sonoma and the new ER is awesome!

This place is incredibly incompetent. My last visit was to ER. After being left alone in «a room» for over 45 minutes, I left without services. Ironically they opened the new ER the very next day. Clearly shows their priorities. Was here today for a simple blood test.

I recently went to the ER for a panic attack and heart palpitations.
The staff was incredible from A to Z. The best part of my experience was Dr. Cohen. I have never experienced a more comforting and well versed doctor in my life and someone who not only cared about my well being, but how to proceed with fixing my health issues once I left the ER.
My husband and I were both blown away by the care Dr. Cohen illustrated and was never in a rush to leave the room. Although the ER was busy that night, he gave me his time and truly made me feel like my anxiety is valid, but my condition was not dire and I would be okay.
His staff that night was also incredible and took amazing care of me while I was there. I unfortunately have made several trips to ERs in the past for panic and anxiety and was treated like I was overreacting and everything was just in my head. Dr. Cohen made me feel human and went beyond the standards of care to make recommendations to help me which no one has ever taken the time to do.
I am incredibly grateful that Dr. Cohen was my doctor that night and helped me create a game plan to bettering myself. He truly is an angel and sets the bar for what every ER doctor should be.

We decided to have our baby at The Birthplace at SVH, after we took a tour of the facility. We found The Birthplace to be clean, quiet, and extremely warm and welcoming. All of the nurses were personable and extremely knowledgeable. We had a scheduled cesarean and stayed in the hospital for 4 days and this time was spent learning and being totally supported by the nurses there. They helped my husband to feel more comfortable and made my family feel welcome. It was a huge opportunity to be helped with breastfeeding, nurse Sue is a lactation specialist! And we were also helped with bathing, swaddling, and comforting our little baby girl while in the hospital. I will be having my next child at The birthplace at SVH and wouldn’t want to go anywhere else to do so! Please go tour The Birthplace, there are scheduled tours but you ca also call ahead and take your own tour.

We delivered our son at SVH Birthplace last year and it was a great experience. The nurses were all wonderful, the facility was small and intimate, my birth plan was followed and they do water births! I highly recommend this hospital birthplace.

I have had two surgeries and multiple visits to the emergency room here (both as patient and concerned family member).
My surgical experiences — a grade 3 A-​C separation repair and a broken wrist — were both straightforward and completely uneventful which is exactly what one wants. I was treated well, never felt neglected, had no complications and experienced a smooth recovery. The results of both operations were excellent and the P/​T afterwards met all my needs though sometimes it was hard to get on the schedule.
The emergency room visits have generally been due to some trauma (e.g. bicycle accidents, falling off horses, twisted ankle, etc.). I’ve seldom had to wait very long to be seen by a nurse or doctor. In one case I spent much of the night waiting for final resolution of my minor injury but given they were dealing with 3 other people experiencing life-​threatening situations during a shift change, my minor injury could easily wait. In fact, that’s exactly the kind of triage I want to see from my ER.
Until now, the ER has not been nicest of facilities but I recently got to tour the new addition which will include a state-​of-​the-​art ER and surgical wing. It’s a giant step forward and long overdue — huge thanks to the benefactors who donated to make that possible.
The hospital is an under-​appreciated treasure in our community and I’m very thankful to have it and appreciate the efforts I’m seeing to make it even better. I sleep better knowing that quality healthcare is just a couple of minute away.

This is a quasi-​criminal enterprise. Took my 3 year old there because she had pink color diarrhea. Brought a stool sample. They took her temp, told her it was normal, and sent us home. Didn’t test the stool. Didn’t give any medicine. Told us our insurance would cover everything except 75 $ which we paid at the time.
We’ve received two separate bills for $ 300 each since then. Really, this type of place is what is wrong with the medical system in the US. They should be shut down. Avoid at all costs.

At my doctors request I had an ultrasound performed here and was shocked when the bill came. They charged nearly $ 3000.00 yes 3000 for this procedure that took less than 10 minutes. To top that off I still will get a bill from the person that held the wand.
I called Redwood Imaging in Santa Rosa and asked them what they would have charged for the exact same thing and they charge $ 200.00 dollars total!!!
It was interesting to see that they lost my insurance info and discounted the bill by 60% for uninsured. They still make a profit on the discounted amount.
When they found I had insurance they will now bill the insurance company for the full amount. This is whats wrong with our health care in this country. what a racket!!!

I have had two surgeries at SVH in the past 2 years and each experience has exceeded my expectations. Both surgeries were performed by Dr. Perryman who is an outstanding surgeon. The surgical staff, the anestesialogist and the nurses who attended to me while I was were very professional and catered to my needs when I asked for, or needed, help. I also used the ER recently and Dr. Cohen and his staff were cordial and professional. The ER staff quickly attended to the issue at hand and sent me on my way home.
Over the past few years I have had to use the ER numerous times due to a sick child, and each time, the experience has been very good.
I am thankful Sonoma has this gem of a hospital.

I’ll admit I have heard people complain about the hospital, but in my experience its been nothing but good to me and I am quite happy with my experiences (and I’m a nurse). I have had the unfortunate (and sometimes fortunate) experience of visiting multiple departments within this hospital. I can’t say I loved every person I met, but I like the vast majority of them and was really happy with my care, particularly from labor and delivery and same day surgery. Huge thank you to my nurses for their excellent care!

Unless you have a hang nail don’t bother going here! We moved to Sonoma two years ago and have been several times to the ER and never received good care. Why do we keep going? Because it’s the closest. After tonite never again. My 13 month old daughter had a 102.9 temp so we went here. They screwed up the dose of the fever meds and had us there for 2 hours with a virtually empty ER. So I put her pj’s back on and just took her out without saying anything. I’ve received better care in third world countries. Now I know why the hospital is struggling so financially.

I am less than impressed with this hospital. I have spent quite a bit of time at UCSF and California Pacific in San Francisco and granted SVH is very small, I was very unhappy with the nurse care my friend received over a several day stay. Nurses were for lack of a better word lazy and confrontational every time a simple request was issued. Further, the lack of basic equipment like heat pads, warm blankets or cold packs is really unacceptable in a North American hospital. Basically, I would not go there for a sprained ankle never mind for anything graver or god forbid surgery.
