We love Third Life! We’ve hosted a bunch of shows here, and also held lots of rehearsal in the space. Sue is super welcoming and has really let us use her space at an affordable rate, which really helped us to get started at a time when our group didn’t have a ton of money. She’s always quick to communicate, and the space is always very clean and comfortable. One note for dancers is that there’s a tile floor.

I started taking belly dance classes here about a month ago with Nadira Jamal, and I LOVE her. I’ve taken classes with several other teachers, and she is just wonderful. Nadira explains everything you need to know, and she goes nice and slowly so that you get it before moving on. That is so important when you’re training your muscles to do something they’re not used to doing. Not only that, but she makes it FUN. It’s an hour long too, which is just perfect. The space itself isn’t the best for a dance class, but it’s definitely not the worst, either. I like the fact that I don’t have to watch myself in a mirror during the whole class. The bathroom is icky, but other than that the place is just fine for it’s purpose. Third Life is in a very convenient location near the 87 bus stops, which is great for me. I plan on continuing with classes for as long as Nadira stays here. I highly recommend belly dance for any woman who has been thinking about it. It’s the only thing I’ve ever done that makes me truly feel good about myself.

I teach a weekly belly dance class here, and have also used it for rehearsals. I would recommend it to anyone looking to rent space for dance or music instruction, rehearsals, or small-audience shows. The prices and availability are much better than the larger dance studios, and the owner is easy to work with and responsive. Just be aware that the bathroom facilities are limited(one single-occupant bathroom), and that only a small section of the studio is mirrored.

Third Life Studio is a small, unpretentious space located in Union Square. According to their website, it’s a creative home to many who perform, teach, guide, quest, and heal. You can see music, for example, or take a belly dance class. I saw music. Last Friday night, my boyfriend and I saw Boris Gaquere, a classically trained guitarist.( ). He played Brazilian music, but for his encore, did an homage to Led Zeppelin. It was great. I highly recommend checking out the music at this intimate setting. Sound was great. The only thing I would say is that there aren’t any beverages available, so just go in knowing that.
