Petsi Pies

Sorry Petsi’s, I’m not on board. I stopped in last week and picked up a Bacon/​Leek pie and a Strawberry Rhubarb. The Bacon Leek was good (and the reason this is two stars) but the strawberry rhubarb was awful. The crust was like cardboard and the filling tasted like someone forgot to put sugar in it. The people at dinner didn’t even finish what was on their plates, and we tossed out the remaining half the next day when no one wanted it. Your whole mission is pie, how can you make such a lackluster product?

Yep, I am on the bandwagon with this place. The pies are small cute and rich. What is not to like? You go in and there are a bunch of pies and cookies, scones looking at you. They are saying «eat me.» I asked a ton of questions and the staff was so patient with me and even let me try a scone. I had the chocolate pecan pie, it was decadent.

I’ve only had their brown butter pecan pie and chocolate bourbon pecan pie. My husband and I love pecan pies! We both preferred the brown butter pecan. We’ve both had chocolate pecan pie before, and really enjoyed it, so we knew what to expect, but this one was underwhelming. The texture of the filing was not pecan pie-​ish, but more like a chocolate pudding pie consistency. I also like how the pecans usually brown in the sugar from the filling, but on this pie, they were chopped up on top.
There were lots of pies that looked delicious, and I’m definitely interested in trying others.

Went here with a friend to grab a slice of pie after having lunch nearby. This place is pretty small and they sell out of pies quick, so be sure to get there on the earlier side.
We decided to split a slice of the bourbon chocolate pecan and the triple berry pie. The bourbon chocolate pecan was our favorite of the two as it had a sort of creamy richness to it that packed a lot of flavor, but was not too filling. The crust was also perfectly flaky and complimented the rest of the pie well. We were less impressed with the triple berry as it did not really hit a sweet enough node for us – even the crumble on top seemed to lack sweetness.
Overall, the pies here are well constructed and reasonably priced and the service is friendly. And if you can only try one, I’d definitely go for the chocolate bourbon pecan.

Came here on a whim because I really wanted some dessert and this place was the closest option to where I live. I was surprised to see how small it was as it is literally a bakery with no seats but nonetheless the pies here are awesome! Would highly recommend if you’re in the area and you want some sweets.

I need to start by saying I am not a pie person. When I do eat pies, I will only eat my mother-in-law’s pies because she makes the most amazing crust imaginable. My husband had broken his hand this day and I was in the area of Petsi’s so I thought I would cheer him up. I bought him a pecan, sweet potato pie. While I like a good pecan pie, I am not a fan of the sweet potato/​pumpkin type of pies. Holy mother of all things pie like — this was the best gosh darn pie I have ever had in my over 50 years on this planet … and please do NOT tell my mother-​in-​law). The pecans were cut up small and they were just tender enough and the sweet potato was not overwhelming at all and added that sweetness you need for a good pecan pie. The combo worked really well together and was not overly sweet — perfect.
My mouth is watering just thinking and writing about it. I look forward to trying their other pies.

The best pies ever. I’ve had several pies over time. All were perfect. I’ve had both savory and sweet. The lemon meringue pie was tall with fluffy meringue and the lemon had a lovely lemon flavor with no fake chemical taste. Perfectly sweet but not too sweet. The apple pie was perfectly sweetened not mushy at all and the crust on all the pies is perfect. And I had a pecan sweet potato pie that was a huge success. My guests said it was the best pie ever. I agree.
The savory pies are crispy and good. Savory pies are not quiche so no eggs but nice cheese and vegetables. Savory is nice but the sweet pies are to die for. You won’t go wrong with petsi pies.

Petsi Pies is the best thing to happen to anyone, ever. Except that one guy behind me who, when asked if he wanted anything other than coffee, said «No, all this stuff has too much sugar in it.» GET OUT OF HERE MAN. Here is a list of all this things at Petsi Pie’s that are amazing; every single pie, coffee, cinnamon buns, all the quiches, chicken pot pies, coconut/​chocolatechip/​everything bar, chocolate chip cookies, scones and muffins. You should probably avoid Petsi’s if you’re on a diet. But that would be so, so sad.

While they’re sweet pies are quite good, they’re savory pies lack flavor. The chicken pot pie is very mediocre. Lacking flavor and containing potatoes, for a shop containing the word pie as their slogan the chicken pot pie was not much better then the frozen variety you can buy at Market Basket

The Tres Leches cupcake is basically a cheat code for the best cupcake ever.
I will update after trying the Red Velvet cupcake & chocolate pecan pie. And if those are as mind blowing then this is a top contender for best bakery in the USA
Update: The Red Velvet cupcake was what you’d expect. The Chocolate pecan pie, however, was not. The consistency was more cake-​like than pie. Not a bad thing just know what to expect. This is bakery is worth a return trip to Sommerville

Everything I have tried here has been great, the savory as well as the sweet items. I am addicted to the scones.

Everything here is delicious and the service is excellent.
Also, once upon a time when my wife and I were stranded on thanksgiving without food… Renee (the owner) kept our Holiday rolling with a sweet potato pie and veg w/​goat cheese tart. She’s the best and her love shows through our her establishment.

I picked up my Thanksgiving pies this morning. I do not care for Apple pie at all (really UnAmerican huh?)…I can’t understand where almost half of my apple pie has gone!!! I’m the only one home!!! Yup, ok I did it, I ate it and loved every single bite even the crust!!! I didn’t even bother with heating it up or topping with ice cream. I can’t describe the decadence. I’m only wondering what I’m going to serve on Thanksgiving cause this pie isn’t making it past tomorrow! !!
Anyone on the fence about where to order pies, just go to Petsi no disappointments here at all but their Thanksgiving orders are closed now.
Order ahead for Christmas, New Years, Valentines… Sunday, Monday and Thursday. …these pies can make any day a holiday!
I can’t wait to get home from work tonight, I’m gonna have some with ice cream .:):):)

I love pie and this year for my birthday I got a bunch of pie’s instead of cake and it was awesome.
I got key lime, apple, cherry, strawberry rhubarb, and chocolate bourbon pecan. I was not a fan of the keylime — but it was also my 1^st ever. All the others were really good but the chocolate bourbon pecan was AMAZING!
I love that it’s a small busines & local.

This is the original location and unlike the one in Harvard sq, doens’t have seating or sandwiches. However, they have shelves upon shelves of pies and more selection of pastries!
They have the best pies in Boston area, and some of the best scones! You can’t go wrong with anything in there. I recommend the tea cakes, any of their scones, and their pecan, and chocolate pies.

This place has the best ambience. It smells amazing, you can see all their pies, and the owner is just wonderful. So far I’ve tried muffins, scones, and cake, and I like the cake best.

We went to get 3 slices of all different pie. They said they could only give us one, that the other pies had not been cut. Ok.
I guess I thought you could tiny the slice. Either way my son enjoyed his pie.

Beyond their pies, their blueberry muffins are some of the best muffins I had. Not dry at all and just so good (sweet but not overly so). Coffee is good too.

I love mocha. And to be honest, I have never had mocha like theirs before! So much so that the taste kept lingering and I kept comparing every other mocha I had in the next 2 months to theirs-​only to be disappointed! They are simply amazing ! :)

My favorite things are their scones and savory pies. Nothing beats a coffee and a classic scone from here. Friendly staff as well:)

Since I began my new job in Inman Square a couple months ago, my bookmarked list of breakfast and lunch stops has grown immensely around the Somerville and Cambridge area. Petsi Pies made my list by recommendation as I somehow missed seeing it on my daily drive by.
I learned that the bakery has other locations right in the area, but this particular shop on Beacon Street does not make breakfast sandwiches. I came in for an egg and cheese bagel, but left with one of the most delicious blueberry muffins I’ve ever had. I also enjoyed a piece of spinach ricotta quiche that was very good also with a light flaky crust. The bakery offered a selection of 3 or 4 kinds of quiche to choose from. There is a variety of baked goods and coffee here at this location with a few seats to eat inside or take your treats to go. The woman who helped me on my visit was very sweet, friendly, and helpful.
I love this location because it’s convenient to stop at with plenty of parking nearby. This is definitely going to become one of my favorite stops along my commute.

Very good bakery… Staff — ALWAYS pleasant and greet you with a smile… Products are fresh, tasty and they are usually well stocked… No complaints about this place and I will continue to frequent this place…
I have driven past it for years and I’m glad that my coworkers surprisingly brought me something from here one day… And I’ve been a fan ever since…

I came here a while ago when I finished grocery shopping next door at market basket. after drooling over everything for what felt like forever, I chose the chocolate bourbon pecan and blueberry. Soooo glad I did!
The staff here were really courteous and helpful. They asked me tons of questions to give me the best options for my taste. The shop is small but very cozy, warming, and charming. I think their other location is a little more spacious over in Cambridge near the galleria.
I wanna try the sweet potato and Mississippi mud next time. I’ve also heard amazing things about their pumpkin pie. Their other pastries in the display case also looked super promising. They even make mini pies here which is perfect for the indecisive like me. #tryallthepie
Bonus – they have really good coffee here!

Just noticed I mistakenly posted this on the Cambridge location. Review was written 11÷14÷12.
I used to tell myself that I wasn’t going to bother writing reviews for businesses with over 100 reviews because with that many, they probably don’t need my review and who’s going to read it anyway? But I suppose it’s good to support businesses I like, so here we go. This review is only for the Somerville location.
I think it was only last year that I finally made it into Petsi. I’d previously tasted their pies at a party and thought they were a bit rich for my taste. Because of their name I thought they only made pies so it never occurred to me to go. Then I found out they had other baked goods too!
For a while I was addicted to the raspberry jam filled cornbread muffins but I’ve moved on. Almost everything I’ve had was tasty, although sometimes I feel that it’s just a touch richer or sweeter than I’d like. Most baked goods are quite large and I often eat half and save the rest for later. Other pastry favorites (in no particular order):
* lemon scone — I always ask for ones with more icing!
* walnut fudge brownies — like crack and excellent on a bad day
* snickerdoodles — melt in your mouth goodness
* oatmeal cranberry walnut cookies — chewy & great mouthfeel
* cinnamon buns — excellent with a cold glass of milk
* sweet potato buns — reminiscent of pumpkin pie
* banana bread with pecans — not very banana-​y and more like cake
There was one day the bacon cheddar scallion biscuit was calling to me, even though I hate scallions. The girl behind the counter told me she didn’t like scallions either and that you couldn’t really taste them. Around the outside where the scallions had been dried out, that was true but closer to the center where the scallion was still damp, I could taste it. I did find the outside delicious.
I think the only pastries I haven’t enjoyed were the blueberry muffins (can’t recall what my objection was) & apple walnut cake (just didn’t enjoy the flavor).
On the pie front, the pumpkin pie is decent, although a bit softer than I prefer. I like a firm pumpkin pie. I’ve also had the pumpkin bars and pumpkin whoopie pies which are both delicious but a little too sweet.
This summer I discovered the key lime pie. I never used to like key lime pie but after having it somewhere else I was craving it. Theirs is very thick — almost a cream cheese-​like consistency. I wasn’t sure what I thought of it at first but I found myself craving it all week. It’s a bit heavy so I can usually eat only small slivers at a time.
Note that their little pies, while adorable, are very expensive at $ 7. I haven’t weighed them but I’m pretty sure a slice is a better deal (can’t remember how much — maybe $ 4?). Larger pies are too expensive for me to buy for anything other than special occasions although I will occasionally get a slice.
I think I may have once tried a savory pie, but I don’t remember which one. All I remember was it it was a bit rich for me and upset my stomach.
They once had mac & cheese in a small pie tin but I’ve never seen it again.
On the beverage front, I don’t drink coffee so can’t comment on that. I had the hot chocolate once and found I didn’t care for it. I keep trying hot chocolate everywhere, but my favorite after many years is still True Grounds in Ball.
This summer I discovered their ginger lemon iced tea which is absolute heaven on a hot day. Note that the hot ginger lemon tea isn’t the same. The iced tea has honey added and tastes much more lemony and gingery. I think the hot tea is from MEM and it doesn’t taste much like lemon or ginger to me. It tastes a bit woody.
The bakery has a homey feel in the ordering area, although this is sometimes offset by brusque staff. There is some seating in a small, dimly-​lit room, but it looks cramped. I don’t recall ever staying. There are also a couple of benches outside.
Parking in Somerville is easy for me because I’m a Somerville resident and there’s lots of resident parking. I think there is some non-​resident parking but I haven’t paid much attention to it. There’s also the Star Market parking lot which you probably shouldn’t park in, but it’s never full.
Customer service is a mixed bag. The staff tend to be inconsistent — some are extremely friendly, others are less so; some are really quick and others painfully slow; some can answer your questions about the ingredients in the baked goods while others can’t.
Bottomline, I go for the tasty treats, not the ambience or the service. I wish the staff were better and more consistently trained, but it won’t keep me from going.

The excellent: the lemon scone is, far and away, the best scone I have ever eaten. Crunchy edges, a glaze of tart icing, moist interior that becomes downright creamy in your mouth. The pecan square is also completely intoxicating (maybe that’s just the blood sugar spike talking, but whatever). Pies are excellent, too. The bakers here are truly craftspeople. (And on top of it all, really friendly, too.)
The rest: the coffee could be tastier. I am not sure what beans they use, but the coffee’s a little thin and burnt-​tasting – the fault of the roaster rather than the brewers, I suspect. The muffins are also, from what I know, hit-​or-​miss. But I refuse to knock off a star! The sweets make Petsi’s beyond reproach.

There are certain things that will make you temporarily forget your troubles.
The Mississippi mud pie is one of those things…

Great, now I can’t even remember what I had tried on that long ago visit!
Well, anyways, this recent stop was for a friend who wanted to pick up a pie as a hostess gift for dinner. Ice cream was then easily picked up for a la mode at the neighboring Shaw’s. As for me, this spot, though tempting, is just not within easy luring distance of my home nor of my regular travels.
It is a small bakery, so it is more for the take-​out set, which was just fine for this visit. As a matter of fact, we had called them to see if there were any pies left in the afternoon hours, and were told yes, but that they would be closing shortly. Oh no! But they were kind enough to tell us that we could just knock if their doors were locked since we were already on our way after discovering that their newest alcove on Cambridge St. was not only already closed, but had completely run out of pies.
My friend opted for the blueberry pie, though she commented that the mixed berry pie here was also very good. We each took home a honey & date scone, and we dug straight into her molasses ginger cookie — thick & yummy!
The scone, I shared the next day, and it earned the hearty approval of two more youthful diners.
