High Energy Vintage

The world needs more places like High Energy. Simple as that. NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, JAGUAR???, N64, and the beat goes on. Cool clothing selection, tees, long sleeves, westerns, caps, shoes, guys, girls, blah blah blah. These dudes run it. The owner sets up at the Davis Sq flea on the weekend too, so check him out. Super friendly staff, and a great place to get lost in. Also: Game stations!!! Ask to try any game they got behind the counter and play a few rounds on the TV to pass your own judgement.
Bottom line: This place rules.

The shop owner, andrew, is the best. Super helpful, positive and friendly. He has funky taste and he keep’s fresh inventory and cool staff on at all times. great shop!

Awesome place. These people know what they’re selling. They suggested an NES game for me, and I think it’s great. Their prices are lower than eBay. Also, when I mentioned I didn’t have any Genesis games yet, they gave me a copy of Sonic 1 FOR FREE.
EDIT: The place isn’t closed. I emailed them and they said they moved to 429 Somerville Ave in Somerville.

A wonderful, quirky, vivacious little store with helpful, passionate staff and plenty to explore. A surprisingly deep assortment of hidden treasures (especially hard-​to-​find vintage gaming equipment).
This is the sort of place that’s increasingly hard to find these days. Now that I’ve found it, I’m a fan for life.

Friendly little shop and they have really rare video games. Totally worth checking out if you are in the area and like vintage stuff.

I don’t know why I didn’t review this place before! Ever since I found out about this place, I’ve been going here all the time! The guy there is extremely friendly and is willing to help out any customers. There’s also a really good selection of retro games here and they’ll sometimes get in REALLY cool ones (they go fast though!) for great prices too! This certainly isn’t the kind of store that overprices things like many retro game stores. And also they sell vinyl records, 70’s/80’s clothes, cassette tapes, and even sometimes good old Laserdisc’s here! So if you like any of that stuff, then what are you waiting for?

Wow. Seriously. Can’t go without giving this place a 5 star rating. Also, this is my first review. I couldn’t skip out on giving this place a review. This store has some of the greatest collections of old school video games. I went to buy two N64 controllers. Store owner, Wiley, said he needed to change the joystick to one of the controllers. I am a VERY patient guy. As he fumbled and dropped some of the pieces (no harm done, thankfully!) to the controller, I looked around at the collection of SNES, N64, NES, GameBoy, Atari, Sega Genesis, etc games. I spotted some TMNT card packs (contains 5 cards, 1 stick of gum, and one sticker) on the counter right in front of me. I couldn’t miss out on that for 25¢ a pack. I said I would like to add 1 to the payment as well. Old controllers cost $ 20 each. I bought 2 for $ 40. Wiley was so generous after replacing the joystick (apologizing for taking so long, I said it wasn’t a problem), he added a second TMNT package without asking me, just because he took too long. He only charged me for the controllers. Now that is excellent customer service!!! Even though I was absolutely fine with waiting patiently, I wasn’t even charged for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles packs. Wicked nice guy… Oh, did I mention you can play video games in the store if you want to? Awesome store. I hope this place stays around for a long time. I will DEFINITELY be back since, well, my apartment is only a little ways away.

High Energy Vintage
–I am a old person and walking into High Energy Vintage is like walking into my childhood.
–The man who works there (sorry, I do not know his name) is always super helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant.
–I have gotten some really good deals.
–Found items that I’ve been looking for years for.
–My daughter loves to dance to the music that is always being played in the store.

This place is awesome. My girlfriend and I have been hunting for snes games and this place by far beats everywhere (sudden impact and game zone) prices are low and they even allow you to try out the game before you purchase it! The workers are very friendly and I will definitely go back.

One of my personal favorite places to poke around for random video games. Awesome video games at awesome prices, run by an awesome dude in a funky-​fresh shop. Do yourself a favor and check this place out if you’re into:
*Video games from the late 90s and earlier (think Atari to SNES… ish)
*Vinyl
*Vintage clothing
*Schlocky VHS movie screenings
*Cats
Those bullet points = You can’t lose!

I absolutely love this store. Their clothing is all top notch and the old school video game selection is quite extensive. I can’t wait to go back and see if they have some games that I found out about recently.

After a few years of shopping at the SoWa vintage market and the Davis Flea, it’s awesome to see High Energy (formerly DiscoVision) get a brick and mortar store and still retain that «attic-​fresh» feel that made them exciting to visit in the first place.
The store is a bit out of normal travel distance; a few blocks out from Teele square, and a 15 minute walk from Davis, but it’s worth the trip if you’re looking for vintage video games at a reasonable price.
There’s a few miscellaneous cartridges for lesser systems available (Nice to see some Intellivision after all these years!), but mostly games for NES, GEN, SNES, and N64. They’re behind cases, but all with visible labels so you can see everything. Most are cart-​only (save for quite a few of those built-​to-​last plastic Genesis cases), so it’s not exactly a collector shop, but if you’re looking for games to play, the store does well for quality franchises and hidden gems. Many of the available games also fall under the store’s «5 for $ 20» guidelines, and not just budget and sports titles. If you own multiple systems, odds are good that you can fashion a high quality mix & match bundle to your liking every time.
The owner’s a great guy as well. He’s friendly, knows his stuff for the games he sells, doesn’t actively try to match inflated ebay prices, and one thing I really appreciate is that he inventories his stock online, so you can go in with a few titles in mind, and even reserve them beforehand.
High Energy sells a few other things besides video games (VHS tapes, records, clothing, handbags, etc.), although I can’t properly evaluate them. I estimate the handbags can fit an average of 4 – 6 cartridges, if that helps.

Walked in and asked about some specific games and the owner goes down to the basement and comes back up with huge box to let me sift though! Super nice guy. Found tons of rare vintage games. We chatted about polaroid land cameras and old movies while listening to Gang of Four and Devo. I got a lot of video game bang for the buck on my purchases. I will be back!

This is the first Unilocal review I’ve ever written. This place is that impressive. The customer service is top-​notch, so much so that you don’t want to give your business to any of their competitors. Additionally, the prices are far more reasonable. I should note is that the only drawback is that they don’t have quite the selection of video games that certain other places have… however they seem to have a pretty steady circulation. Lastly, the owner (?) let me sell them a cartridge-​damaged copy of Zelda: A Link to the Past. A couple other places told me they «couldn’t take it», which is ridiculous as the game plays fine and just needs to be crazy glued to be just as good as any other copy. Anyways, High Energy Vintage is great… you should check ‘em out!

This place is beyond awesome and brings forth all your old school video game needs, plus much more.
Tucked away in Teele Square, which is a stones throw from Davis, sits DiscoVision Vintage. This store has not only copious amounts of old school games, ranging from SNES, N64, Genesis, NES AND Atari, but provides a great selection of records and vintage clothing.
They recently opened a this store, having moved their booth of wonderful wares from the Soho Market in South Boston, to the Cambridge area. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable about their products and provide a nice cozy atmosphere for your shopping experience.
Again, one cannot truly describe the range of old school video games this place has, as well as old school systems and refurbished items. They also have a small area to test out the game you want to buy, therefore getting a better sense of the product.
It is a truly a fun place to hang and check out, whether you need to find that great pair of leather boots and jacket, or just want to spend an afternoon with treasures from your childhood. The prices are reasonable and they are definitely a great place to visit.
Kudos to DiscoVision.

The new store is way awesomer! They couldn’t «shine» at the SOWA stall the way they needed to, that environ is too chaotic. Although they did make Sowa funner and cooler. Only great stuff for sale. And I love the floor!

Just back from buying a great pair of boots from DiscoVision. The guy who runs the place is super nice and knowledgeable. The prices are great and the selection is caried. I can’t reccomend this place strongly enough.

Great selection of classic games. Andrew, the owner, is knowledgeable and friendly. Fair prices that are well-​informed by the current movements in the overall gaming market.

I’m very happy DiscoVision has a real store now and is no longer a booth at Davis Flea and/​or SOWA Vintage Market.
My husband loves this shop for vintage video games at reasonable prices.
The store itself is really cute, with record sleeves in place of ceiling tiles.
In addition to video games, they sell vintage clothing, shoes, records, and cameras as well.
It’s worth checking out! (And you may find yourself reliving your childhood.)

When we saw this place opening up, my husband and I made a bet about whether it would stick around. He was doubtful that this little vintage shop could make in a rather dead area of Somerville. «Retail is all about foot traffic!» he said. I, on the other hand, have faith in this place and the owner. Maybe because he has a good eye, if not a good understanding of local geography (he had no idea where Arlington is). His prices are reasonable as well which, hopefully doesn’t mean that his business is doomed, because I really want this place to stick around.
