Hertz Rent A Car

Guys avoid this location at all costs there’s a enterprise 5 minutes away !! I had a rental from my auto body shop no lie for approximately 2 hours they took a hold of 260.00 it’s been three weeks of me calling and asking for my money back they keep telling me 24 to 48 hours for your money back that was three weeks ago go else where shady business practice here

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!!! I made a reservation online which quoted me for $ 92 for two days. When I got to the location, they said if I was going to return it on Sunday, in order to do the key drop off, they would not honor the contract and charge me an extra day or I could return to Logan Airport, which would be $ 30 taxi fair to get home. Since it was Friday afternoon and all other carrental places were closed, I had no option but to take this. Also, unlike Enterprise, they charge for a spouse to be added as a driver $ 13.75 per day. Again, DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION.

The staff is great to work with and very accommodating. But, they need a new cleaning service. I returned my car and got another because I found french fries and old onions between the car seats, and I couldn’t stop thinking about them while I was driving. I didn’t want to pick them up myself because it was gross, and after a while, I became indignant at the fact that there were french fries and onions in the car in the first place.
I called and told them my dilemma, and they were like, «Ugh, we’re sorry. Come on in. We’ll get you another car.» That was very nice of them, as I know I was acting a little bit crazy. And they gave me a much nicer car the very next day. This one has crumbs in it too. (Seriously, guys? Just a hand-​vac or something before you give the car to the customer). But, at least, it doesn’t have entire food stuffs sitting on the floor.

It doesn’t look like much at first glance, but I found the customer service to be good. There was a discrepancy between the price I was quoted when I first made the reservation and when I arrived, and the gentleman honored the initial price with no complaints.
I didn’t like how the GPS console is situated in front of the passenger seat. The location makes it inconvenient and dangerous for the driver to look over as it requires the driver to lose sight of the road completely. It also takes the system a few minutes to detect you’re off route and recalculate. Google Maps does this in seconds.

Helpful, friendly staff, good rates. Can get busy, but they work hard to clear up any backlogs.

These guys were super nice and helpful when I went in. When it comes down to billing, these guys are completely incompetent. I gave my insurance claim information with them and they required a credit card because the case was not settled. Next day the case settled and I called in. They say I shouldn’t be billed anything and that insurance will pay for my rental. Great. A week later I get a call from Hertz vehicle recovery saying I hadn’t returned my car. Turns out they never input my claim number and held a 3 day rental on my credit card (I had the car a total of 10 days). I call in and they see the claim number on file and will stop the charges to my card. Well, I STILL got charged the money for the length of the rental and now have to go down to get a receipt from them to try to get reimbursed the cash from the insurance company. I shouldn’t have to go through all this hassle when all these people had to do was input a 6 or 7 letter/​digit code into their computer system. What a joke.

I have to say, the staff at this rental car agency is fantastic. They deserve a review for their professionalism and kindness. They’re very easy going and make everything «not a big deal» and answer any and all questions without being frustrated or giving you the bum’s rush.
They handled all my accident insurance paperwork — I didn’t have to do a thing.
Superior for customer service and efficiency, too.
It’s been a pleasure; I plan to use their services whenever I need a rental car.

These guys are so nice! I’ve arrived slightly early and dropped off slightly late, with nary an extra charge! They even kept the place humming when their internet service was down for over a week this spring. Cars are always clean and they even upgraded me to a Charger when they didn’t have anything else vacuumed out (why yes, I was early).
I do hate that Hertz, the company not this outpost, will not allow you to rent for less than 3 days during busy times.

Someone asked about local rental outlets, and after I responded I realized I should have posted this earlier here. Bearing in mind that this experience happened in 2010, here is our negative experience with this location:
A few years ago, my wife needed to drive to upstate NY for a test prep course during the winter and didn’t want to take our one and only car. The Somerville Ave Hertz offered a deal online that was a few dollars cheaper per day than the next-​highest offer (Enterprise), so she booked it for noon on a Saturday. We show up a few minutes early and are informed that this location closes at noon, so it was a good thing we showed up early or they would have been closed. Okay, concerning attitude considering that we reserved a noon pickup via their website, but whatever.
They then bring us to the car they have, which the previous renter had smoked in and they hadn’t had a chance to clean it. And by smoked in it, I mean cigarette butts in the ashtray and on the floormats, hot-​boxed chainsmoking, not just a light odor that would dissipate in ten minutes with the windows open. That was all they had on the lot, and didn’t really seem to care about it. We asked what our options were, and they said they would move our reservation to the Hertz location near the Park Plaza down by the Public Garden in Boston.
So we drive down there, now approaching 45 minutes after she should have been on the road. I drop her off and return home, figuring all was good. She calls nearly in tears because even though the Hertz location we reserved at said they were transferring the reservation with the same terms (price, size, etc), the new location didn’t know about or honor the reservation at all. They were requiring her to get a new one with them at a price 3 – 4 times the original, and wouldn’t budge. So the slackers at the Somerville Hertz basically lied to us so they could go home and left us holding an expensive bag.
I went back into town, picked her up, and after some frantic calling around the Enterprise in Central booked us at a discounted rate even though we hadn’t done the usually required advance reservation and even stayed open a few minutes late as we raced over. All for a cost that was the same as the original Hertz reservation that was such a «deal».
We could have saved 3 hours of high-​stress running around town if we had just gone with Enterprise to begin. The experience was so bad that even with my frequent business travel (15 – 20 business trips a year) I never rent from Hertz, but even if I did I would never go to the one on Somerville Ave.

I prefer this branch much more over the one in Harvard square. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and you won’t get dizzy from swirling up or down five stories when you drive your car in and out.

I’ve rented from here a number of times and they’ve always been friendly and helpful. Most recently I left a tiny generic item in the trunk. I figured they would toss it when cleaning the car but to my amazement they found it and returned it to me. Thanks Cecil and Nick!
Like with any local car rental agency there’s a small staff so depending on when you show up there may be a long wait or none at all. If you rent from Hertz it’s worth signing up for their free Gold program which makes the rental process faster and can earn free rental days.

Excellent staff — especially Nick who is unfailingly courteous and helpful. This location in Somerville is easily accessible from the T stop at Porter Square, so I tend to rent from this location even if there are more centrally located rental places within the city of Boston.

First of all, this place is a hole in the wall. They said they had been there eight years, but it’s not obvious to the naked eye. I rented a nice modern car online from them this past weekend and it was a breeze. I’ve never rented a car that fast before. Nick was the one who assisted me. Very friendly and explained everything. Even told me that they were not open on Sunday and gave me the option to return it at the Park Plaza location. I was so impressed that I signed up for their Gold membership.

Had my first experience with this Hertz location this weekend for a quick trip to visit family in Connecticut. I usually go with Zipcar for my car rentals, but for a 2-​day trip Hertz had very competitive rates. Made my reservation and checked-​in online, which was very easy. When I picked up the car, the gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. He even offered to help pull the car out of the very tight parking space at the front of the building. I had no issues with the car. I returned the car on a Sunday (the office was closed) and that process was relatively easy as well.
My only gripe is that returning the car on the off-​hours can be confusing parking-​wise. There are certain spots you’re not supposed to park in, but the Hertz spots are not clearly marked. I was not sure where I was supposed to park and I think that some paint or clear signage could help clear up this confusion for others. Other than that, I had a very positive experience and will be using Hertz for my other weekend rentals.

I would warn you that these folks are dishonest. Several years ago we rented a car that was fairly nice (a nearly new Mazda CX9) and at a competitive rate, but the manager lady was very condescending and admonished me to be careful with her precious car, mentioning once or twice during the booking process, «you know, that’s a very expensive SUV.» I was a little annoyed, because they weren’t giving it away for free, even at the weekend rate, and I just didn’t feel the need to mention that I am familiar with nice cars having just pulled in one that was worth a bit more than her precious Mazda, and just needed the extra capacity for an extended family weekend getaway. So the rental went very well and the car was clean and reliable, but the after service is what got to me. In our haste we dropped off the car, on time, and with two brand new and expensive tennis rackets and two new cans of «Penn 6» tennis balls in the cargo space. It took a day for us to realize that we left the racquets in the cargo bin, and so when we called the rental place to ask if they had seen them (figuring they would say oh yes, please come right down, we’ve already set them aside for you) they instead said without hesitation and without going to look in the car, no we didn’t see anything in there at all. Well, we figured maybe it got left in the car during cursory cleaning, and went to the next lucky renter. Except that several weeks later we went to rent a different vehicle for a different trip, and when we showed up to pick up the keys we saw two cans of «Penn 6» tennis balls, still nearly new, sitting on the windowsill of the booking room. I mentioned to the same manager lady that we were missing the exact same tennis balls and number markings and two tennis racquets, and maybe she has found them since we called originally, and again without hesitation, «no nothing at all, very sorry about that.» I’ve got no definite proof, just a very bad feeling of dishonesty, condescension, and general poor human being-​ness from this dealership. Have never been back since. Have had great experiences at every other Hertz and have Hertz Gold Membership. It doesn’t make me feel great to post this because I don’t have definite proof, but go in there and decide for yourself. At the very least condescension + cold lack of interest or sympathy for our small loss + seeing the exact two cans of tennis balls in their waiting room a few weeks later = bad feeling inside. Another lesson learned, when you feel creeped out at the beginning of a relationship, you always realize later how right you were.

Excellent service. They gave me a discounted rate because the rental wasn’t business related and I was paying for it out of my own pocket, and when I returned the car they gave me a ride home.

I’ve made at least a dozen weekend rentals from this Hertz location over the last few years. Occasionally you have to wait 5 minutes in line for pickup, but that is still way better than my typical experience renting from an airport location.
The staff is always courteous, professional, efficient, and very obliging with on-​the-​spot requests for specific car features. The cars are always ready to go, and almost always brand-​new and in great shape. If anything, the cars are almost a touch too new — that new-​car smell be a bit overpowering in a car that has less than 100 miles on it.

Terrific service at this location every time I’ve been here. No complaints at all.

Every time I rent from here I seem to have a problem – last time it was a $ 30 «administrative fee» on «late payment» of a parking ticket that had been dismissed (eventually I made it go away, though it was a hassle)…this time it’s «damage» reported long after I returned the car. (Although after I called to ask about it, the corporate office made the problem go away immediately, so props to them for that.) The latest time it was the office being closed during normal business hours… apparently there was only one guy staffing the entire office on a Saturday, and somebody had reserved the «we’ll pick you up» service, so… lock up the entire office while the single staffer goes and gets the customer.
The lot is tiny and massively crowded, and you can see the sales goals posted on the wall for the collision damage waiver insurance from the front desk… but it is the only rental car company within walking distance of the Davis/​Porter area.
