It’s not as bad as previously described. They cash your payroll check for pretty cheap. Its true they get a portion on people paying telephone-gas bills that they could easily pay for free online but hey, that’s their problem. The characters who visit usually provide entertainment value if you can understand their language. One guy I remember sold his car, got a check from a guy that no routing or account number. Doh! Another guy came in and farted 20 times while cashing his check.

I had to create this under the heading«local services,» but really, it’s «local disservices». I hate that these companies capitalize on low-income people’s long-houred work-days(no time to go a mainstream bank when you work two jobs), lack of English fluency, and general distrust of mainstream anything(with good reason). I hate that they skim a percentage off of what is already not enough to live on for a service these people deserve to get for free like the rest of us. It really just makes me sick. I guess there’s no real reason why the Check Cashing Company should be the particular recipient of my wrath, but I drove by it tonight and saw some of my neighbors getting scammed, and it made me sad. Check Cashing Company be gone.
