Amanda H.

Business Owner

Amanda received her MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Program at the New School in NYC. She currently teaches at Boston University, and has also taught at the Huntington Theatre Company, the New York Film Academy and privately. She has studied with Jack Plotnick, Karen Kohlhaas and at The Barrow Group in New York City.

Amanda has performed on stage, and in films, industrials and commercials. She is a founding member of Albion Park Productions, a film production company. Its first short film, The Oblique Sector, premiered at the Nantucket Film Festival in June 2011.

I was interested in getting into theater in Boston, so I signed up for their intro class on a whim. I’ve now taken two classes with Art and Amanda, and I plan on taking as many more as I can. The atmosphere is so fun, and I’ve learned so much about technique, how to approach and play with text, and performing. I recommend this class to anyone who wants to have a fun class, wants to get into theater, or is an actor wanting to brush up on skills or learn new things. I used to take a lot of acting classes, and I don’t remember getting as much out of any of them as I do out of this. Go sign up!

With Art & Amanda it’s twice the coaching and two times the fun! The classes are very well organized — basic warmup drills, tongue-​twisters and loosen-​up exercises, improv. sessions, monologues and scenes etc. You will find that this structure is very useful especially if you are a newbie to acting.
I decided to take a lesson with Boston Acting not to pursue acting but to help improve my public speaking skills. I present concepts and defend design choices as part of my daily work. After taking a couple classes I now act in plays and short films, yes and of course I deliver my presentations with killer confidence!
These classes will introduce you to a lot of acting and film-​making concepts in the most interesting and playful ways. You will begin to see movies and appreciate performance under a different light.
Oh and I forgot to mention the one bad thing about these classes… they have an ending!

Amanda is a joy to work with. She’s excellent at her craft and also very encouraging. Whenever I leave her I feel confident and have so many more options about a scene, than when I arrived. When you’re working on a craft like acting, it’s important to feel safe. Amanda provides that environment and also a lot of fun. This is a win, win. Totally worth investing in your craft with this group.
