My daughter had the California roll and tuna roll, and they both lacked flavor and were warm when served. The hibachi steak and chicken had decent flavor, though were a bit sweet for my taste. Almost no vegetables in the stir fry. Pretty much food court Asian at restaurant prices.

I have ate hibachi chicken at alot of Japanese restaurants, and this place is still by far the best. Sushi rolls are great, and bento boxes are as well. Favorite restaurant in somerset.

Food tastes great but the waiter wasn’t that very good. Came in didnt greet us, sit us right away. Then another waiter came and asked for our drinks, didnt come once to ask if everything was great or if we needed refills. New people come in and asked them for refills instead of my friend or I, I dont know if it was because I’m brown skinned in a white skin majority place but never going here again, I’m a high tipper and it makes me feel ashamed when I don’t tip, but I am not going to tip someone dull who didnt even ask if I wanted a refill throughout the 20 minutes we were there. Try the Yamato’s in Campbellsville, service is better there, and they give you these noodle chips for free.

1 star is perfect. Way over priced, service is mediocre at best and the food is about the same in taste as is McDonalds. No for me.

Don’t order take out from this restaurant. You will not receive your full meal. My family ordered two teriyaki plates and one hibachi plate. We noticed as we walked out that there were no soup or salad containers in our order so I walked back in and asked if they came with them. The woman working said«oh, did you want them?» Well, as we ordered them and paid for them, yes we’d like them. They gave us the soup and salad but when we got home and opened our boxes we found that the teriyaki boxes did not include tempura vegetables, spring rolls, or the sushi listed on the menu and the hibachi box was also missing the extras. After paying over $ 50 we expect our order to include all of the advertised items. The restaurant may as well have just stolen money from us as that is basically what it amounted to– charging for multiple items that were not included. Will probably not return.

Terrible. They wrap the shrimp tempura rolls in lettuce and smother in hot mayo. Its supposed to be just eel sauce.

Yamato is one of the only Japanese restaurants in Somerset. That being said, it is pretty good! I frequently visit, because the Sweet Potato Roll is absolutely amazing. The Sushi Chef takes pride in what he sends out, and I’ve always been pleased with the taste. The staff is very friendly, and always do what they can to make your dining experience a good one. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable.

Where do I begin to describe this awful experience? My son ordered tuna and salmon rolls. This resulted in bad food poisoning. It has been several days now and his stomach is still upset. The food poisoning really hit him hard. As for my dish, I ordered salmon teriyaki. The fish I received was rotten. Rotten! It smelled rotten and tasted rotten(unfortunately, I did try it). When we brought it up to the waitresses’ attention, she asked us if we would like her to «text the manager»(seriously!) and see what the manager had to say about the rotten fish situation. We never received an update on the issue. Nor did anyone apologize. I went to the restroom at the restaurant and as I was washing my hands, I looked down to discover that the toilet floor is smeared with what looked like urine. We paid the check in full, and left a generous tip. We will never be back.

The portions are large and service is good. I recommend getting a bento box with a few pieces of sushi on the side. It is a little expensive so be ready to spend 15 – 20 $ a person. If all you want is sushi then go elsewhere because this isn’t the best deal to be had. If you want a little bit of numerous Japanese dishes then this is your place. It’s not great, but it’s the best Japanese food you’re going to find in somerset.

Yamato is one of the only Japanese resturaunts in Somerset,(though there is a new place named Wasabi in town). They make a wonderful California Roll and their bento boxes are huge. Great atmosphere, but on some nights the staff just is not friendly at all.

Yamato is really the only Asian-inspired cuisine in Somerset that isn’t centered around a buffet. That being said, I hope that doesn’t color my review. As a whole, I like Yamato. It’s a small restaurant in Tradewinds shopping center, but the atmosphere is cozy. They have large cushioned chairs at every table, the lights are low, and there’s not an inordinate amount of noise. The prices are little steep when compared to other Japanese restaurants, but they’re not completely unreasonable. Also, they never offer any sushi happy-hour specials — so you’re always stuck paying full price. The dishware that they serve food on is beautiful and the presentation of their food is nice. I like the food. I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on Japanese food, but as an American eating it — it tastes good. I usually stick to Hibachi chicken and it’s much like other Hibachi chicken dishes at other Japanese restaurants. On one side you have a bed of rice and the other side of the dish is the chicken with a vegetable medley of zucchini, onions, and mushrooms. It’s served with miso soup — which I sometimes eat(drink???) but it doesn’t really make my heart sing, and it also comes with a small salad. It’s probably wise to ask for dressing on the side because they’ll dump an obnoxious amount of dressing on a very small salad. The salad is a small, simple salad — lettuce base with tomato and cucumber. Nothing special. They offer either ranch or a ginger dressing. The taste of the ginger dressing is great, but the texture is awful. It’s very thick, grainy, and clumpy — not exactly how you envision a dressing to be. I can’t solidly speak on the quality of the sushi as I’ve just recently ventured out in that world. However, the rolls that I’ve tried at Yamato, I’ve loved. They’re always beautiful and my only complaint is that sometimes they’re huge — which makes them a little cumbersome to eat.

Great service and atmosphere. Surprisingly good and decent sized servings. Had samon from bosu portion of menu and liked everything on the plate. Reasonably priced and a pleasant surprise while traveling through

Well, I’ve ate a lot of sushi in some pretty swank places in my life and this was not one of them. The décor was dark as a Japanese dungeon and everyone was dressed in black like ninjas. Yamato’s is tucked away in the Tradewinds Shopping Center, over the hill from Lake Cumberland Hospital in Somerset. That being said, onto the food. I ordered a Dragon Roll, Philly Roll, Miso Soup and salad for lunch. The Miso was typical and served the purpose. The salad was a mixed salad w/cucumber, tomato and lettuce with your choice of ranch or ginger dressing. I stuck with the ginger and received the smallish salad. It was fresh and green, but had a piece of green tomato in it and was overly coated with the dressing. The Philly Roll again was typical, but the seaweed wrap seemed stale and soft. The Dragon Roll on the other hand was exceptional and very fresh. I’ll give this place credit. The rolls were elegantly placed on a fashionable plate and were served w/wasabi paste, pickled ginger and also some shredded carrot and cucumber. I could tell that presentation meant something to this sushi chef. Not the worst I’ve ever had, but not the best either. With a little work, this place could be good.

I was a little disappointed with the food. I ordered the shrimp tempura bento box which had a lot of food, but it was rather bland. The sushi was great, but the rest of the food was just average. My husband and I both only ate about half of our what we ordered. Yamato is advertised as being a hibachi steak house, but there is no hibachi demonstration. The décor is nice for a strip mall restaurant, but they still have up Christmas decorations in October. Or maybe they are just really early with their decorating. Even though there was nothing in particular wrong with this restaurant, we probably won’t be going back.

Ok… Tried it twice… It kinda sucks. The red snapper was gross. Twice. The Unagi roll was the only thing I found to be «good«. It doesn’t look bad inside but it could use a little help. It didn’t smell fresh like a good sushi bar normally does. That was my first warning. Decent service, fair pricing. Meh. UPDATE: Ok. This time was much better. It’s still not amazing but it is respectable. I had to give them the respect of giving them another shot. Glad I did… The Mexcan roll is great and the seaweed salad is very fresh and propery seasoned. The fried rolls are not executed very well and need better technique but whatever. The fish was very fresh tonight and the plating was done nicely. The servers still need a little polishing and the speed of the chefs was very slow. I’ll come back I’m sure.

My wife and I have eaten at Yamato’s a couple of times since it opened. While they prepare hibachi style foods they do not do demonstration/show cooking. They do; however, have a sushi bar, where the sushi chef prepares a myriad of sushi. The food; both hibachi style & sushi is pretty decent and a happy departure from what is currently available here and the surrounding areas; however, their servers are borderline terrible. We would eat here more often if the service was better.
