Skinner Vineyards makes hand-crafted Rhone-inspired Wines that characterize the Sierra Foothills. When the Skinner Family discovered that their ancestors established and ran the original J. Skinner winery in the area from 1861 through the early 1900’s, they resurrected the family legacy and created the Skinner Vineyards and Winery of today.
Our tasting room and terraces are the perfect place to taste wine, relax with friends, and enjoy the staggering views of the Sierras.
History
Established in 2007.
One Sunday in 2006, Kevin Skinner and his wife Kathy were navigating a trip from Lake Tahoe using an old map. Near the Sierra Foothills town of Placerville, they noticed the name «Skinner» on the map, and got curious. After checking with some local folks and getting some more information, he called Mike and Carey Skinner to share the discovery. After doing some digging, the Skinner family discovered that founder Mike Skinner is the great-great-great-grandson of James Skinner, a Scottish miner who in 1861 established one of the Foothills’ first wineries. In learning more about their ancestor’s thriving winery and pioneering role in the region, they were compelled to buy property, plant vines in the area and reclaim the family legacy. And so, Skinner Vineyards and Winery was born.
