Surfrider Chair Mark took time out of his busy schedule to drive miles through busy traffic several days in a row to volunteer his time to educate Escondido youth about our ocean, waves, and beaches.
Way to go Mark!

Wonderful Surfrider San Diego not only knows how to clean up a nasty beach and help to save Trestles, but these homies know how to put on one hell of a Christmas party too! Maybe a «mixer event» would be more politically correct, but gathered they were among us at the UTC Forum Hall Chapter Meeting of December 16, 2009-​which really was a cover for an awesome pig-​out of great food & free beer! Oh-​and the big bins were out to collect canned goods and non-​perishables for the needy from the Surfrider group –some of whom-(the needy) were already there!
There was the collectible Surfrider T-​shirts-​being sold for a pittance so the good members and volunteers might have something nice to gift their loved ones with! Oh-​and the best part: 24 packs of Pacifico-​FREE! I thought I was dreaming but pinched myself and then opened a bottle! All that was missing was the sliced limes!
Since it was also a «potluck mixer,» there was plenty of food too-​most of it good! Spinach pizza, organic green salads, Swedish meatballs,
some weird cornbread with chili’s in it, lots of chips, dip, pretzels, and beaucoup desserts! Cherry, pumpkin, and pecan pies, cookies, baklava. OMG-​it was a gourmet’s delight here.
Then the official business at hand: a farewell address from the out-​going President of the chapter-​Scott, and an introduction of the new people voted in for 2010 executive committees and such. Then it was back to the important stuff: EATING and PIGGING OUT! Yes-​Surfrider is a wonderful organization that takes good care of the beaches and oceans. BUT it is also a great group that looks after the grumbling stomachs of their devoted members and volunteers at Christmas. BTW-​this potluck was a bring-​your-​own plate, napkin, cup & fork ! Next time I’m scooping up more litter and dog poop at the next beach clean-​up, I will hark back in time to this great evening of over-​consumption-​sponsored by Surfrider!
