Double Take Solana Beach

I would have to agree with the other reviews… Qa. Said it best — «It used to be good. Now it is not». As well, I am really disappointed with the owner and her worker. They constantly talk about the people walking thru the store. You can hear them when you are in the fitting room– giggling like little girls and saying some unbelievably cruel things. As far as clothing: they used to have great stuff but not any more. They seem to favor Chicos and White House Black Market to the designer labels they used to take in before. I have brought them designer Prada with the tags still on and they did not take it. What a shame for everyone. The few pieces they did take I never got my money for. The clothes were no where to be found and they still claimed they did not sell them. DO NOT waste your time or energy going to this store. The extremely unfriendly staff and cheap clothes just aren’t worth it.

Many years ago, when Double Take opened their doors in Solana Beach, I was one of their first customers. I loved the place along with the stores in Encinitas and Carlsbad. I especially adored the older ladies that worked there, Barbara and the wonderful classy gal in SB. I shopped there exclusively! As time went on, they got very snobby and I didn’t care for the way the stores were set up. I was even told that they didn’t want to offer chocolate candy any more because of the cheap people eating it all (!). Well, today I went to both SB and Encinitas. Although I was the only customer in SB and I saw the owner in the Encinitas store… no one acknowledged me. Even when I went in the dressing rooms or was casually looking thru the racks. Perhaps I was interrupting them (?) There are plenty of other stores that I could make purchases at. I want to feel welcomed and appreciated aa a customer. I will NOT return. My Sister’s Closet appreciates me and my money, besides, they have the inventory that I am looking for. Avoid DoubleTake!

Used to be good, now it is a was good. The owner used to refuse to have spotted clothes and now insults you if you mention it. The styles and choices are low end and cheesy. The lighting is (and has been) atrocious with colored pastel plastic shades on CFL bulbs so you can’t see what you looking at and the color is off. The last several times we have tried the store there has been nothing… nada, no sale. I write this with resentment because the store, years ago, was a great one but due to success and now apathy it is scratched off the list. Wren should sell it and move on.

Seriously you guys– this place is just fun. I spent the entire day there and bought a ton!
Not only is the clothing selection diverse and desirable but also top designer brands.
Now on to the store itself– its organized, clean, reasonable, and quite.
Highly recommend coming here before any other store.

Unfortunately I have to rate the store with a less than one star– The women who own this place seem to think they are above everyone else. First of all every time I walk into the store you can hear them bickering and complaining about other businesses in the area and how she does such a better job than other double takes in the area. Not to mention how they brag about their wealthy husbands and or how they believe they have more money and therefore are better than everyone else.
Today unfortunately I experienced this after I went to buy a dress that had no tag on it, I offered to buy it for $ 50? it was a designer Parker dress so I thought it was a fair price.
She refused to sell it to me, and told me it was $ 65 instead. I turned around to find a price tag on the floor –it was the tag to the dress for $ 50 that had fallen off and she still would not sell the dress to me. She still claims that the tag belonged to another item even though it said Parker $ 50 on the tag found on the floor at my feet in front of the register. Wow! I just walked out!
She always gives me dirty looks and absolutely despises that I spend money in her store, but I’m not that of the rich community she would prefer to sell to.
I feel as if this woman chooses her relationships in this community and her shoppers to discriminate. I feel sad for her and I hope that she finds what she’s looking for. I will gladly spend money elsewhere!
And now looking at the reviews above I see that I’m not the only one who has experienced this. Unfortunately– I like the store, not the attitude! Bummer

They have a huge selection of stuff which is great, and a lot of designer. However the place comes off as very snooty. There’s a woman who works there who is a sweetheart, but I always feel judged when I go there. Their dirty looks make me very uncomfortable.

Watch out!!! If you donate to this store they will DONATE everything immediately if you do not pick up the things you left on the day the indicated. I checked in to see about the clothes I had dropped off only a few days after the requested date and EVERYTHING was already donated. They make ZERO attempt to contact you and will get rid of ANYTHING they want if you do not arrive exactly when they demand. I will NEVER support their store again. I feel completely taken for a ride and feel I lost out of selling items that I could have taken somewhere else. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! Plus, the person I spoke to was rude. Their system is without care for the seller… BEWARE!

This place may good for deals but total bs if you are consigning things to them.
1) They don’t give you a itemized list for rendered goods at drop off… You have to leave it 24 hrs and come back to get the list. You have to take note before dropping off.
2) The place doesn’t call you to let you know when things sell. Nor do they call you at the end of your 60 day consignment where they «donate» (who knows if they actually donate it or they simply keep it for inventory) your stuff if you don’t pick it up.
3) When picking items up they make you find it in the store. So in the beginning take pics so if you don’t remember what you dropped off after 60 because they don’t give a sh! t.
Customer service lacking at best.
Do a «Double Take» for yourself if consigning items. For taking 60% of «their» sales price they don’t offer jack for service.

The BEST consignment store I’ve EVER been in! I’m addicted! Beautiful high quality merchandise. A must see!

I have no idea what Laguna is talking about. Everyone who works in this store is great! They are always up, very helpful, have great taste and are honest and tells you what looks good and what doesn’t, they have great pricing, the clothes are in perfect shape. Oh, and the girl manager’s name is Lynn and she is the sweetest person. She truly bends over backwards. I’ve been a customer for 3 + years and have heard her be nothing than enthusiastic and dear in all that time.
This place is the best!

This is in response to the poor review from Laguna L. Carlsbad.
I come to this store twice a year, whenever I’m in town. The prices are somewhat high yes but they are designer and of very good quality. And if you don’t like the prices don’t shop here.
Laguna set the tone with her passive aggressive comments and remarks to the manager. I have talked to the manager and can’t imagine her speaking that way to anyone unless of course was taunted by what it sounds like Laguna did.
And the falling… Karma’s a biatch…

Love this re-​sale place. Lots of name brand stuff for good prices. Some stuff is overpriced, but you can dig for good deals. I get work stuff here and also pick up cool things for myself. I will say that it can get busy and you have to wait in line at times for the dressing room or to check out, so that was why I gave it a 4. Not sure why the other people were saying the people that work here are rude, I’ve never had an issue and been many times.

Selfishly, I debated whether or not to rate this place because I want to keep it as my little secret! ha!
Though I went here in the middle of a week, it felt like a Saturday with long lines at the dressing room. The reason why? I was in there trying on about 50 articles of clothing (ranging from the most comfy jeans my legs have ever experienced to the crazy shirt I was «just going to try on for fun»…now my new favorite item in my closet).
Don’t go here unless you have a full day to spend or at least a couple of hours. I had so much fun digging and making my way around the store. I love how it’s organized. Designer racks are separate for the convenience of those shoppers wanting to be a tad more thrifty. Everything is organized by color. My mission on this shopping trip was to add a little color to my closet (black, white and gray dominate it up until this point) and I was wildly successful. The shoes line the perimeter of the store, so if you are going there for footwear, you will be taken on a tour of the entire store.
You can definitely spend a lot of money here, but it is well worth it for what you get. I was guilty of spending about $ 200, but got a pair of earrings, two pairs of designer jeans, one pair of capris, four shirts, and two jackets (!!).
The ladies working were so accommodating and immediately helped lighten my load by taking my «yes», «no way» and «maybe» items back and forth from my arms to the dressing room to the check-​out counter. The best part was during my checking out when I had second thoughts about a shirt I was in the process of purchasing. I was on the fence and was really torn. The woman behind the counter advised me that I shouldn’t get it if I wasn’t in love with it. She was right. I would have definitely suffered some buyer’s remorse when I got home. I really appreciated that honesty — it’s good to know that if you’re shopping solo, the ladies working there will be your best shopping buddy:)
Wish I could come back every day since the inventory changes so often, but I have definitely changed the way I shop. Resale over retail.

Bad customer service and their prices are too high!!! Plus L@@K at their FB it’s a spotlight of exactly the kind of snobs they ARE!
My experience went like this: I walked in & saw the purse section and said to the manager «oh my the prices are so higher compared to other stores which btw have better quality purses for better prices. Anyway, it spun around and said this to me with a very rude tone «Then perhaps you should go somewhere else». I had to chuckle to myself and turn away thinking, she didn’t just say that did she? I personally felt there was nothing wrong in just stating the prices were far more expensive considering this is FACT! This is the manager with blonde short hair that looks like a boy. anyway it was Not Attractive nor professional at this point to be acting that way.
So, as I continued to shop and brushed that off I thought Id strike up a conversation with the same person & asked her so are you the «owner»? She said no I’m the manager (which btw is how I found out). I then said hmm okay so why are you taking this so personal and thought WOW, whattttttttttt lol? Her comment was the owner would of responded the same way. Lol, Okay REALLY… so now I’m thinking what planet do these 2 people come from, and are they litearlly just «clueless to customer service? Meanwhile I’m thinking =/​so your not the owner and yet you and the owner talk to your customers like that and think it’s ok?
I then said well I am sorry you feel my opinion was so offensive it was never suppose to be and sorry you took it so personally /​Now I’m thinking GET OVER IT =/​
So while were talking MAJOR PROBLEM HERE… I fell BACK hard to the floor tripping over something & catching my foot on something!!! As I had already crashed down… I looked up & there she is glaring down at me, with not ONE word to me… NOTHING. As I got up I looked down to see a HUGE hole in their floor (towards the back). It’s about 5» wide x 50 enough to catch a foot if not looking & do alot of damage to the older person who could hurt themselves seriously!
I said to her, REALLY… she says WHAT? I said ummmmm YOUR floor why is there a hole in it and why hasn’t it been FIXED? I WALKED out at that point & was mind blown by whole experience. After telling several of my friends about this 100% of them have told me I should of filed a lawsuit, but instead I went to the CITY and filed a report against these crazy people who call themselves a business.

Yea, me definitely thinks NOT AGAIN!
Thinking I might take some of my nicer, newer (with tags on) clothing and accessory items to a consignment store instead of selling on Ebay, I bring my items to DT, they say leave them and we’ll call you when the owner comes in to check them into the store. Now I see why they were so eager to just have me drop them off! I called them three weeks later inquiring as to why I haven’t heard which items they inventoried and how many were sold… etc. «Oh you don’t have anything here and we just donated ALL of your items because we couldn’t sell any of them.» Really? Just like that? I’m out at least a couple hundred bucks B/​C supposedly they couldn’t sell them?! How am I to believe that line? My items were not unlike anything else in that store for sale and in the same if not better condition!
What’s to keep them from selling my stuff Or just trucking them off to their other stores??? All I’m left with was them saying to me three weeks later. sorry we threw your clothes away!
I was told that they get way too many people dropping clothes off to call each and every person– really? How many cosigners could they possibly have? They aren’t Nordstroms– hell, even if they were… Nordies calls their millions of suppliers. It’s call keeping good business practices.
Really? Still scratching my head… No phone call? Nothing? BS!!! bad business-​FOLKS! Just plain Bad Business!

I have been shopping and consigning here for years. I find this store functions as a great way to cleanse my closet of items that I’m not wearing and also refresh it with new ones at a great price.
I prefer to consign my items, rather than sell them, and I find I always get some money for my items. For example, this last time I went in I had $ 40 in my account. They are so good about keeping track of my account that I once had a check waiting for me when I hadn’t been there in over a year! On the buying side, I have picked up great designer items at crazy good prices. I love that they have a separate rack for high end designer items and another one of brand new stuff.
I think a consignment store is a very tricky business to keep everybody happy. In reading a few of the other reviews my impression is that it is easy for people to have unrealistic expectations. Items to sell must be in like-​new condition and current. The buyer has a good eye. On the buying side the prices are always a third or less than what you would buy them for new. No, you won’t find Juicy for a dollar but you can find a Marc Jacobs dress for $ 50 or a Banana Republic top for $ 15. In my book that’s a deal!
The customer service here is not like at a big retailer. My thought is that they could be a little more consistent and polished. There is often only one person there and you might need to wait a moment. However, everyone there has always been friendly and nice to me and helped me with what I needed. Keep up the good work!

I love this place. I’m so surprised to hear all of the complaints about service and the owner/​manager. I have NEVER had a bad experience here! Spring is a great time to go because everybody is cleaning out their closets. It’s not for old ladies either. They get in Lululemon, ALL name brand jeans, Tory Burch, Stuart Weitzman, Theory, Juicy, etc. If you’ve never been I definitely give it a try! Also, FYI they’re bagless which I think is great. So if you plan on going big, bring a bag :)

I was never a fan of buying clothes from Thrift Store or Consignment Stores since I have never found anything. But I was wrong, this store changes my mind and now I love shopping at consignment stores, specifically the one that carry high-​end clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. I’ve visited both of their location, Carlsbad and the Solana Beach. I favor the Solana Beach one more since I have better luck buying something and they carry more high-​end items then their Carlsbad location. Rarely do I ever walk out without buying anything.
I know I am always getting a great deal from here is because I never buy any brand name stuff that I didn’t already know the initial cost of it. I do agree with other reviewers that sometime there are stains on the items but then again, the price is cut more than half and majority of the stuff has already been worn but it is still in great conditions. I guess I’ll be visiting this store more often than Saks or Neimans now a day.

Stopped in here the day of my husbands military ball to get a dress to wear (was NOT planning ahead), had tried a couple other stores first and hadn’t found anything (including the encinitas location). The selection was amazing, I found a few dresses to try on. The wonderful saleswomen at the store was so helpful — it was like shopping with a friend and was really honest with me when deciding on two dresses and really spent some time with me! The dress and a new pair of earings to match were less than 50 and I got TONS of compliments on it all night!
I can’t wait to go back for some more shopping !!!

I am a new fan. My cousin had on a cute dress and when she told me she got it at Double Take consignment I thought I would bring in some of my clothes and look around. I got a brand new designer top that is so unique and cute. I paid $ 40 for a top that was $ 154. I have never been able to afford or refuse to pay for designer clothes for the high prices but now will check out Double Take on a regular basis. I found several unique cute tops. I left with 4 or 5 things for under $ 85 including the brand new designer top.
***I am changing my 4 star review to 2 stars after not ever getting a call about my clothes I brought in. After almost a year they said I had $ 5 earned and they donated all my clothes that didn’t sell. I didn’t get an itemized list of clothes and how much they sold them for so they could tell you anything. They have you over a barrel. I might shop there but I certainly won’t go to the trouble of bringing my clothes here. I will donate them to the battered women’s shelter or something like that. At least I would be helping out a good cause and get the receipt for my donation for taxes.
