Amba invests its profits into projects that conserve and develop the skills and lives of these craftspeople. Specifically by paying above average fair wages to skilled artisans both in remote villages and urban environments, Amba sets the bar high valuing the human element in fashion.

Business Owner

Nirmala Seshadri-​Jagannath was born in Chennai, India and moved to the United States in her twenties. An accomplished Indian classical dancer with a keen eye for the artistic traditions, Nirmala is deeply committed to the promotion and preservation of the cultural and artistic heritage of India.

Through her gallery of clothing and home goods, Amba, in Solana Beach, she works to maintain the integrity and sustainability of hand loomed and woven textiles by using them in her designs and exploring innovative ways to adapt them to contemporary lifestyles. Nirmala believes that design is not just product manifestation. It is a process driven exercise concerned with ideas, resolving problems and with improving the quality of life everywhere.
