Cornet is fine for what it is, in certain cases they’ll have the sheet music or part that Munro Music in East Northport doesn’t carry(which is rare), but the service is fine and the place is well stocked with parts and sheet music. However I did bring my alto sax in there for repairs and waited several weeks for it. I had a similar problem on my clarinet and Munro had it out in a matter of days. So if you live closer to Cornet than Munro it’s fine, but Munro is much more worth the trip in my opinion.

I’ve lived in Smithtown for 10+ years and have been to this store many times and while the store is completely empty, i always got the sense that I was interrupting the guy when I needed to ask a question or ask for help trying to find something. This is unfortunate since the store is very conveniently located in town and we would like to be able to go in and be treated like a welcomed customer. Now I go to Munro in East Northport, they seen to be eager to help and answer questions… and makes you want to come in and buy from them. It’s a little further than we’d like to go, but that’s a small price to pay to support an establishment that offers the service we are looking for.

Unfortunately, Cornet is probably the biggest local music store in my area, but it’s better than nothing. I took guitar lessons here for a few years, and I’ve had maybe 3 different teachers, all of whom have left since. In that department, they are reasonably priced, $ 20 for a half hour if I remember correctly, which for music lessons is not terribly expensive. Looking back however, their lessons were very unprofessional lessons. This is a common pitfall of guitar lesson places; complete focus on learning how to play songs chosen by the lesson-taker, but nothing else. I remember spending a lot of time talking to my teachers, which is good, but I remember spending a lot of time waiting for them to copy music from upstairs. Basically, there was never a lesson plan or any type of focus on improvement rather than simply learning songs. The store itself is somewhat useful due to their inventory, but they lack many important music books. They seem to have a focus on guitar, but they pale in comparison to guitar stores such as GuitarCenter. They don’t have an especially unique selection of guitars either. Their guitar cable’s quality makes it only fair for them to offer a lifetime guarantee of replacement. I’ve browsed their collection enough to find that their guitar books get outdated, and they do not have a great classical selection. A lot of their work is with rentals and repairs also, and from what I’ve heard, their rentals are not the best, but this is not from personal experience. The only repair I have ever gotten from Cornet was a violin bridge-mine snapped on my $ 200 violin so I needed a new one. I don’t know who did it, but they didn’t do too bad a job, but it wasn’t great either. Admittedly, Cornet Music offers a fair service for being the main music store in the area, but what they do has never been truly professional to me. In sum, this place is not for a musician with any seriousness.
