I came to cactus because I had a Groupon and was looking for a salon to fix a botched haircut from another salon. They put me with Marie. Marie is amazing! She spent so much extra time trying to fix my hair layer by layer. She was also very friendly and funny. I will definitely go back and see her again!

I was coming from out of town and running late for an event. We googled salons near the smithaven mall and cactus came up. My wife went in and asked for a wash and blowout and was refused service by 5 diva stylists with nothing to do but watch the clock for an hour before going home. I took her to a small Portuguese salon closer to the hotel where a simple older woman did a great job. I gave her a $ 200 tip.
If you want an overpriced, average cut with attitude, go to cactus. Otherwise, I’d suggest finding a salon that still believes in a high level of customer service.

I went here for a blow out because I had a wedding to go to. The stylist literally just blew dry my hair without any styling. She barely spoke to me and it seemed like I was inconveniencing her! She didn’t walk me to the front so I had no idea who to tell the front desk who my person. She asked me to point her out, and of course she was nowhere to be found. Then the front desk lady got an attitude because I didn’t know her name. It was the worst hair salon experience ever!

I was referred to here by my boyfriend’s mother. She is a frequent customer who always goes to Jackie, the hairstylist. Jackie was very friendly and sweet. I went there to cut off 10 inches of my hair and donate :) Jackie was excited to help me donate my hair and style my hair.
This salon is very roomy and seems sophisticated. For donating my hair, the salon gave me a great discount, which surprised me (in a good way of course). I miss my long hair but it was worth it and Jackie made it much easier to let go of my beloved hair.

Very friendly and Freddy did a great job! Love this salon! Used a groupon to get partial highlights. I already referred several friends to go here as well.

I just left Cactus after getting a facial. I used a $ 39 Groupon which was supposed to be an $ 89 value.
The spa area was cold. The aestheticians hand were cold.
There were 2 problem areas I told her about right away. One being on my chin. At no point did she even attempt extraction on my chin.
I’ve never been so disappointed. I seriously wonder if I would have paid the full $ 89 if I would have received the same service? Either way I’ll never find out, as I will never go back.

I was very impressed with Cactus I am new to this area and was worried I would not be able to find amy go-​to salon. But I did with Cactus. They did a great job with the cut, highlights and keratin smoothing treatment!

I called for a last minute appointment for an up-​do on a Saturday and they squeezed me in no problem. Stylist Samantha Giordanella did a great job creating a casual hairstyle exactly the way I wanted. She was friendly and patient and offered to do it over as many times as needed until I was happy, but she got it right after one try! I was extremely happy with the whole experience!

I have been getting massages, periodically, for over 25 years. I must say that Dan from Cactus in Smithtown is by far the BEST massage therapist I have ever had a massage from!
Dan really listens to what you want & remembers when you go back.
I usually ask for a woman when I go for a massage, but I am glad I gave him a chance, Dan makes you feel very comfortable & delivers an amazing massage where you feel so relaxed afterwards.
He is excellent & I highly recommend massages by Dan at the Smithtown Cactus Salon & Spa.

If I could give no stars I would. about 1 year ago I had the worst experience there in my life. it was probably around the same time they moved there location near La fitness. they messed up my virgin hair sooo bad! All I wanted was a nice cut and ombré. I ended up with a raccoon looking hair style, uneven hair cut and Dead hair. The guy seemed nice and since he was gay I thought he would be amazing at hair lol. wasn’t true at all. I gave him 2 chances to fix my hair. Both failed. when I went to other salons to fix it, they were amazed how someone could do such a bad job! It took time to get my money back but it finally happened. I recommend this place to no one.. Ur better off getting an inexpensive haircut and color from supercuts then this place.

I live in queens but was having my wedding in Smithtown so I basically picked the salon off the net. When I went for my trial I was blown away by how awesome the salon looked, how there were many stylists, makeup artists, spa treatments, everything you could want and need. my hair looked amazing!
The day of my wedding, 5÷3÷14, me and four bridesmaids went to get our hair and makeup done. I could not have been happier! everything I asked for I got for me and my friends. I wish I lived closer to continue to use this salon. I may just drive the hour plus every few months to get my hair done!

I am so happy I found this place! I moved to the area 1 ½ years ago and had yet to find a local hair salon.
There was an awesome deal on Groupon for a full head of highlights and glaze, so I figured it was a great opportunity to try somewhere new, and very close to home. I also added a haircut to my appointment.
My appointment was with Brian yesterday– he was absolutely amazing– the color and cut are perfect! I’m super particular when it comes to my hair, and he totally delivered. Not to mention, he has a wonderful personality and is a pleasure. I’ll now be a client for life.
The salon staff was very friendly (I wasn’t sure how they would be towards a «groupon customer», but seriously they were great) and the place was immaculately clean. I also really like the décor. (These are also attributes I look for in a hair salon).
Overall, I highly recommend this hair salon!
Some of the Unilocal reviews I read weren’t so amazing, but my experience was the opposite. I loved my experience at Cactus of a Smithtown, and can’t wait to go back.

I recently went to Smithtown Cactus Salon for the first time because I received a package deal for massage/​facial/​mani/​pedi. I was really looking forward my appointment, and even upgraded my massage to a full hour (package only included a 20 min. massage). I am not very familiar with Smithtown, and had a VERY difficult time finding the place (they are undergoing renovation, and they had NO SIGNS! anywhere!)
When I walked in, the front desk was very warm and courteous. I did not have to wait long, my appointment started right on time. I was a bit skeptical about having a male masseuse, he was this little hipster guy. He was very nice, but the massage was just ok. They are also undergoing renovation, and the massage room is right next to the mani/​pedi station. Two ladies were right outside the door talking VERY LOUDLY!!! It was really annoying. He did stop at one point to tell them to shut up (actually I don’t know what he said to them, I did not hear).
The facial was a complete waste of my time — the aesthetician was wearing clickety clackety heels and her hands were FREEEEEZING!!! She had some hot air going on my face, wrapped my hands in paper towels, put some goop on my face and that was about it. Oh and then she had the nerve to tell me I needed some extraction done and that I should book an appointment with her very soon. Yeah right lady! I wouldn’t come back here if you paid me!
The last part of my appointment was my mani/​pedi. It was just your basic service with lotion/​polish. No frills. The girl did a good job, but my manicure was already looking shabby two days later. I had to sit by the door to dry my polish and people kept opening the door and letting cold air in. They looked at me like I was in their way.
The renovation really killed it for me. The spa area was horrendous, with exposed
wires/​holes in the wall, and COLD! The concrete floor was awful — when I got up fro my massage I almost slipped and fell on my face. The mani/​pedi station is a little room with no ventilation — the fumes really made me feel sick.
I bet my experience would have been better if the renovation was complete, but Smithtown is a bit far for me to drive so I will not be giving this place another shot.

This review is only about the «spa» aka massage end of the business; haven’t utilized the hair salon part, so can’t comment on that aspect. I came to Cactus solely because of a Groupon for a massage which cost me all of $ 39. The Groupon also included a 3 month discount membership which gave me ¹⁄₃ off of Cactus’ services. After having an excellent massage with Natasha I decided I had to return to take advantage of the discount. I’m a low-​maintenance girl so walking into a salon and «spa» is a little intimidating at times. but the staff at this location is awesome; incredibly friendly and unpretentious. I’ve been to a few other places such as T Carlton and have felt ignored if not treated rudely in the past. Thumbs up for Cactus and Natasha and the reception staff for being amazing. You’ve gained an actual repeat customer from a Groupon.

Usually at the end of the year they have these great deals for a ½ day at the spa which i usually upgrade my facial and massage to an hour, every person who works at this location is very friendly, warm and helps one another no matter their position.
in the day at the spa it includes, mani/​pedi, ½ hr facial, ½ massage, shampoo with blowout and make up. (they have a nice range of spa items) and highly recommend this location. I hear all locations are equal but I didn’t get that real warm feeling when I walked into the Cactus in the Mayfair shopping center that I do when I’m in the downtown Smithtown location. I hear that they are moving to a larger location across the way where they are builing a new LA fitness. I cant wait for them to get into a larger space.
