History

Established in 1948.

Yellow and Checker Cab Co. began in Smithfield in 1948 when the late Mitchell G. Rabil and his father, the late Edward Rabil Sr. purchased two surplus North Carolina Highway Patrol cruisers to transport World War II soldiers to nearby military bases. We are located at 504 East Market Street in Smithfield and have been at that location since the 1960’s.

Vice-​President Steve Rabil. Co-​founder handles the day to day operations which include dispatching, driver scheduling, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fleet maintenance, vehicle purchases and he also is our evening dispatcher.
